Li Li got injured.

He had to take another leave and stay ho to recover.

This ti, it was real.

Because of that one shout, the nearby neighbors all heard him call Su Man a "dog," including Li Li’s mom.

Most of the people living here knew each other, and many were elders of Su Man and Li Li. Usually, they’d stroll around, play chess, and chat in the neighborhood, so the gossip spread quickly.

Soone with a knack for stirring things up told Li Li’s dad in a joking tone:

"Li Li and Su Man, those two kids are at it again. Your Li Li, huh, really takes after you when you were young. Hot-tempered as ever—he cursed Su Man as a dog, and the whole neighborhood heard it, hahahaha..."

Outsiders only found it amusing, but Li Li’s dad imdiately darkened his face.

He and Su’s dad were close friends. Yet his own son dared to curse his good friend’s daughter as a dog? Then what would that make Su’s dad?

So, after work, Li Li’s dad went ho and gave Li Li a fierce beating!

Li Li wasn’t a kid anymore—he’s already in his twenties. How could he just stand there and take it? Naturally, he darted around and tried to dodge, but then he fell down the stairs—

His arm. Broken.

And that’s the whole story behind how Li Li got injured.

When Su Man heard the news, she was out having a al with Lu Yuwen.

Looking at the ssage her mom sent, her mood grew complicated, and suddenly the filet mignon on her plate didn’t seem so tasty.

[Mom: Li Li just got back from the hospital. Broken arm. Old Li went too far this ti—disciplining him a bit is fine, but how did he end up breaking the kid’s arm?]

[Mom: But honestly, their Li Li is way too fragile. Already in his twenties, yet his bones are as brittle as biscuits. This is where our Manman shines—sturdier than a little bull calf, hardly ever gets hurt since she was young.]

[Mom: What are you up to? Why aren’t you replying?]

[Mom: Oops, sent this to the wrong person. Was ant for your dad.]

[Mom: Forget it, just forward it to your dad for . I’m too lazy to type it again.]

Su Man: "..."

Lu Yuwen saw her staring blankly and asked, "Not hungry anymore?"

"It’s nothing..." Su Man put down her phone and sighed lightly. "It’s about Li Li again. He got injured—again."

"Injured again?" Lu Yuwen’s expression stayed calm, but his tone couldn’t hide the surprise.

He couldn’t help but wonder if the guy was pulling the sa stunt again. But using the sa trick twice—could that really work?

Su Man lowered her gaze and sliced the steak on her plate. With a hint of helplessness, she said, "I’ll have to go check on him when I get back."

Lu Yuwen was silent for a mont before nodding and replying, "You should. Since he lives next door, not checking on him wouldn’t seem right."

"Exactly." Su Man didn’t notice the shift in Lu Yuwen’s mood. As she ate, she said, "I ntioned it to you before, didn’t I? Li Li is super concerned about saving face. Now that he’s gotten beaten up by his dad at his age, he must be feeling awful... I wonder what Uncle Li punished him for this ti, and why it was so severe."

Lu Yuwen said, "If he values his pride, then it’s better not to ask when you see him. Spare him from feeling even worse."

Su Man thought about it and nodded. "Yeah, I won’t ask then. You’re right—he might end up flying into a rage and cursing again."

Su Man hated being cursed because she was terrible at arguing back. Her only skilled form of retaliation was physical strength.

But physical strength wasn’t suitable in every situation.

Lu Yuwen gazed at Su Man warmly and said, "Knowing you might get cursed, you’re still planning to go?"

Su Man froze for a second, then chuckled self-deprecatingly. "...Maybe I’ve been cursed so many tis that I’ve gone numb."

Lu Yuwen let out a soft laugh.
