Su Man’s mom looked at her daughter...
Su Man was seriously scrolling through WeChat, her expression focused, intending to recomnd a coach to Lu Yuwen.
The gap at this level, so frustrating!
Looks like the daughter isn’t reliable, I’ll have to count on myself.
Su Man’s mom cleared her throat and casually asked, "The food and beverage industry isn’t easy. Xiaolu manages a few restaurants—there must be soone at ho helping out, or it’s just too much work."
Lu Yuwen replied gently, "It’s fine. I have partners helping , and the managers of the restaurants are competent. They all ca from my mom’s original restaurant, trustworthy, long-ti people."
"Oh, I see..." Su Man’s mom nodded, "So, you’re sort of carrying on the family business."
"That’s right," Lu Yuwen said. "My parents divorced very early. You could say I grew up in a single-parent ho. My mom ran a ho-style restaurant to make a living, but she worked so hard in her early years that she fell ill while I was in college and passed away. So, after graduation, I restarted her ho-style restaurant and have been running it ever since."
He understood what Su Man’s mom was trying to ask, so he summarized his situation in just a few sentences, making it clear and straightforward.
Su Man’s mom couldn’t help but sigh after hearing him, "Your mom really had it tough—raising you and working so hard."
Lu Yuwen gave a bittersweet smile, "Yeah, it’s the pain of ’a child wanting to care for their parent but the parent is gone.’ Every ti I think of her, I tell myself, no matter how hard it is, I must keep running her ho-style restaurant. Fortunately, the restaurant is doing well now, and we’ve opened branches. At least I didn’t let her down."
The look in Su Man’s mom’s eyes softened unconsciously. She said with so sadness, "Your mom’s hard work wasn’t in vain. If she could see how outstanding you are now, she’d be very gratified."
Lu Yuwen gave a warm smile.
Su Man’s mom then asked, "Do you still have contact with your father now?"
At the question, Lu Yuwen pressed his lips together lightly and didn’t answer imdiately, as if he had so reservations.
Su Man looked at Lu Yuwen, then at her mom, and spoke quietly, "Let’s not talk about this..."
This topic feels so heavy.
And it involves personal matters...
Su Man’s mom’s smile froze slightly.
She was trying to gather key information—her daughter wasn’t helping, and now she was even holding her back.
Lu Yuwen gave a faint smile and said, "It’s okay. It’s just been so long since we’ve t that suddenly bringing him up, I don’t quite know how to explain."
Su Man’s mom pressed, "How long has it been since you last saw him?"
On the side, Su Man frowned slightly, murmuring in her heart, Yuwen already said it’s hard to explain, so why does my mom keep asking? These are personal matters—what’s there to ask... Seriously, is it because she’s getting older that she’s becoming nosy?
If Su Man’s mom knew what her daughter was thinking at this mont, she’d probably spit blood.
"I can’t quite rember..." Lu Yuwen considered it for a mont before speaking slowly, "When I was about five or six, he moved out to live with another woman. We haven’t been in touch since. It’s been so many years that even if I ran into him on the street soday, I might not recognize him."
Su Man’s mom’s brow furrowed deeply, "Your father is truly irresponsible, leaving your mom to raise you all on her own."
Lu Yuwen said, "When I was born, I wasn’t in good health. He thought I was an embarrassnt to him and kept pushing my mom to have another child, but my mom refused. They argued for years, and eventually, he moved out. The household actually beca calr and more peaceful after he left."
"A father like that might as well not exist," Su Man’s mom said angrily, sharing his indignation. "Your mom was capable, and you turned out successful. He’ll regret it soday!"
After she finished speaking, a surge of emotions filled her heart: No wonder this young man is so smart and shrewd. Without a father around since childhood, if his mind weren’t sharp, wouldn’t he have been bullied to death?
