Chapter 1172: Chapter 1172: Extra Story of the Eel 9

“No, it’s not related to you. It’s …” Su Man didn’t know how to explain and felt she was fumbling with her words the more she spoke. She ended up clamping her mouth shut and driving in silence.

The late-night road was expansive and quiet, with only the cold white glow of the streetlights silently blanketing everything.

The car remained silent.

Lu Yuwen wisely kept quiet to avoid making things more awkward.

Su Man grew increasingly uncomfortable upon reflection. Lu Yuwen had just saved her father, yet her attitude earlier seed as though she was intentionally giving him the cold shoulder.

Even though, deep down, she wanted to express her gratitude.

Su Man muttered, “It’s only temporary.”

Lu Yuwen: “Hm?”

Su Man focused on the road ahead with a tense expression and said, “Traffic police… It’s just temporary. I was supposed to beco a criminal investigator, but my parents thought it was too dangerous. They secretly transferred to this traffic police job. But in the future, I’ll definitely transfer back!”

Lu Yuwen nodded knowingly. “So that’s how it is.”

The floodgates opened, and what followed ca naturally. She continued:

“I’ve always wanted to be a criminal investigator, and they used to support , too. But after graduation, for so reason, they changed their minds and started obstructing in every way! They said my personality was too impulsive and unsuitable, insisting I should first work as a traffic cop to temper my temperant. They also said that if I prove I can handle the traffic police job, only then they’d consider helping transfer back…”

Lu Yuwen quietly listened, speculating that Su Man’s family might have so clout. Otherwise, positions within the system, even the less prominent ones, wouldn’t be so easily changed.

After spilling such a long spiel, Su Man felt much more relaxed—at least the atmosphere wasn’t as awkward anymore.

“Mr. Lu, what do you do?” she asked casually.

“I work in the restaurant industry,” Lu Yuwen replied warmly. “Just call Lu Yuwen.”

Su Man nodded lightly and said cheerfully, “Alright, then you can call Su Man, too. No need to keep saying ‘Mr.’ or ‘Miss’; it just sounds awkward.”

She then asked, “Is working in restaurants really tiring?”

“Yeah, it can be exhausting when starting out. But if you find capable managers to help out, it lightens the load.” Lu Yuwen paused and smiled, “Still, no matter how exhausting, it can’t compare to public servants like you. Traffic police and criminal investigators are all professions deserving our respect.”

Su Man felt a warm sense of happiness after hearing his words. Even if it was just polite chatter, she felt like her aspirations were being acknowledged.

Delighted, she said, “I don’t mind the hard work; I love doing this!”

As she spoke, her eyes sparkled, and her face radiated more vitality than usual. Despite driving at night, she seed to beam with a sunny, uplifting brightness.

Lu Yuwen glanced at her and stared for a brief mont, lost in thought.

After a while, he spoke gently, “Being able to do what you love, no matter how tireso, is a form of happiness.”

“Exactly!” Su Man wholeheartedly agreed.

The SUV continued on its way.

The people in the car chatted intermittently.

Su Man felt that Lu Yuwen had an especially amicable personality. Talking to him brought an unexplainable sense of ease—no matter the topic, he always had a response, and there was no need to worry about awkward silence or inadvertently offending him.

In fact, she had a touch of social anxiety. Her family often told her she was too hotheaded and spoke without thinking, which made her prone to offending others. Unfortunately, the people her family interacted with were all individuals of considerable status, so every ti she had to socialize, she avoided speaking up much.

But chatting with Lu Yuwen felt relaxing and comfortable.

Without realizing it, she spilled almost everything about herself—her age, hobbies, ho address, and even the fact that she had a childhood friend.

“He’s incredibly smart,” Su Man said, referring to Li Li. “He’s the youngest Ph.D. at the research institute. When I was younger and didn’t know how to do my howork, I’d ask him to finish it for . Later, he skipped grades and stopped helping with howork… Tomorrow, he’s attending a scientific comndation conference. That conference only happens once every few years…”

Lu Yuwen quietly listened.
