Chapter 423: Chapter 420 – Departure from Eldridge

That night, in the small room of the "Black Stone Restaurant" inn, the atmosphere felt calr than the previous days. The beeswax candle burned dimly on the old wooden table, its golden-yellow light softly reflecting off the worn, dark wooden walls. The mountain night wind blew gently through the gaps in the wooden window, carrying a bone-piercing cold and the faint scent of wet forest mixed with soil and leaves. Outside, the sounds of the city began to fade; only the occasional footsteps of the remaining guards on the stone streets, the distant barking of stray dogs, or the rustling of torches in the wind could be heard.

Sylvia sat on the edge of the bed with her usual upright and calm posture. Her gray rchant cloak had been removed and replaced with a simple, loose, and comfortable sleeping robe. Her long black hair cascaded freely down her back like a waterfall of dark silk. Her red eyes stared unblinkingly at the candle fla, as if lost in deep thought. Beside her, Stacia lay half-sitting while reading her thin novel under the candlelight, the ancient pages rustling softly each ti she turned them with relaxed fingers. Alicia floated gently near the window in her transparent spirit form, her silver hair flowing like thin swirling smoke, her eyes gazing into the darkness outside the city with a distant, thoughtful look.

Suddenly, Sylvia spoke, her voice low and cold yet filled with mature consideration.

"I’ve been thinking... it’s better if we look for another dinsional rift."

Stacia imdiately lifted her head from her novel, her eyebrows rising slightly in surprise. "Why? This rift still holds a lot of energy. The monsters might respawn again soon."

Sylvia shook her head slowly, her long black hair swaying gently. "The monsters inside have been cleared for the ti being. Even if they can respawn, we don’t know how long the cooldown is. It’s better not to waste ti waiting here. Besides, this rift has already been sealed by us and is being strictly monitored by the city ruler. If we stay any longer, the risk of being detected will only increase. It’s safer to find another rift that isn’t known to many people."

Alicia floated closer, her spirit body slowly rotating in the air. "I agree. The energy in this rift is indeed strong, but we’ve already gained a lot of exp and new understanding from it. Searching for another rift could give us more variety and greater opportunities. Besides... I feel another faint pull of energy to the northeast. It’s faint, but clear."

Stacia closed her novel with a soft thud that echoed in the quiet room. "In that case, we’ll leave tomorrow morning. There’s no point staying here any longer. The city ruler is becoming more paranoid, and this city is starting to feel suffocating. The longer we stay, the higher the chance soone will beco suspicious of us."

Sylvia nodded once, her decision firm. "Alright. Tomorrow morning we leave Eldridge. Our next destination doesn’t have to be a dinsional rift. We can head to another city while gathering information. Who knows, we might stumble upon a new rift by chance, or at least hear useful news."

The three of them spent the night with light but thorough preparations. Stacia strengthened the seal on the dinsional rift once more from a distance, Alicia practiced alternating between her spirit and human forms to maintain balance, while Sylvia sat quietly by the window, contemplating the new power she had gained after reaching level 50. The chains on her wrists occasionally rattled softly, as if they too could feel the changes within her.

The next morning, as the faint red sunlight began to seep through Eldridge’s thin morning mist, the three sisters were already prepared to depart. They put on their simple rchant robes again, neatly loaded their belongings onto the carriage, and took care of the two zombie horses in the inn’s backyard stable.

The zombie horses looked eager. Their red eyes glowed brighter, their ears stood upright, and their pitch-black bodies were full of spirit. They were bored of staying in the stable for two days. Now, they could finally be useful again running on open roads with limitless stamina.

Sylvia climbed onto the driver’s seat, holding the reins casually. Stacia and Alicia sat inside the carriage, with the trade goods neatly arranged to make them look like ordinary rchants continuing their journey.

As the carriage began moving away from the inn, they saw many other people also preparing to leave Eldridge. Small rchants, farming families, and even so young miners walked with tense faces, carrying their belongings toward the city gate. The morning atmosphere felt busier than usual, but with an underlying tone of hidden panic in the quiet conversations.

"The city ruler is getting crazier," muttered a rchant beside their carriage while leading a donkey. "He’s started forcing even more people into the rift. He says it’s to ’strengthen the city’s defense.’ Many are scared, so they choose to leave before it’s too late."

His companion nodded while pulling a wooden cart. "True. Better to leave this city than beco forced mining slaves. They say the explosion yesterday made him even more paranoid. Now he sees shadows everywhere."

Sylvia only listened without comnting, the reins in her hands remaining loose. Their carriage joined the flow of people leaving Eldridge. The two zombie horses walked with steady, strong steps clop... clop... clop... their pitch-black bodies looking like ordinary horses to others.

When passing through the city gate, the remaining guards only gave a cursory inspection. They looked tired, tense, and unfocused, their minds still preoccupied with the massive explosion the previous night. Sylvia’s carriage passed through without any issues.

Once outside Eldridge’s walls, the mountain wind blew stronger and fresher. The dirt road leading northeast stretched before them, surrounded by rocky hills and sparse forests that were beginning to open up. The carriage moved slowly among the groups of people also leaving the city.

Inside the carriage, Stacia leaned back comfortably and opened her novel again. "Finally leaving that suffocating city. The tyrannical ruler made the atmosphere increasingly uncomfortable. I’m tired of hearing people whispering in fear."

Alicia sat across from her, her human body now very accustod. "I’m glad we’re leaving. Although the rift gave us a lot of exp, that place was too tied to human power. It’s better to find more natural and hidden rifts, without interference from the city ruler."

Sylvia, sitting on the driver’s seat, glanced back briefly, her voice carried by the morning wind. "We’ll head to the next city called Silvermist. It’s located at a major trade route intersection. We can gather a lot of information there. And who knows, we might discover a new dinsional rift by chance."

The two zombie horses walked with high spirits. They were happy to finally run again on open roads. Their steps were steady and strong, as if wanting to make up for the ti they spent idle in the inn’s stable.

The journey passed peacefully throughout the morning. The red sun rose higher, illuminating the rocky hills and sparse forests around the road. The groups of people leaving Eldridge began to scatter; so took the southern route, while others, like them, followed the northeast road.

By midday the sun felt warr when they stopped briefly at the roadside to rest. Sylvia gave the zombie horses a ntal command to drink from a clear little river, while the three of them sat under a large tree and ate bread and dried fruits brought from the inn.

"How long do you think it will take before we find a new rift?" Stacia asked casually while chewing on a dried apple.

Sylvia gazed toward the northeast, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I’m not sure. But the world after the World Fusion is full of dinsional rifts that appear randomly. We just need to keep moving and observe our surroundings carefully."

Alicia briefly appeared in her spirit form to feel the wind, then returned to her human body. "I agree. This journey itself has taught us a lot. This human body... makes

understand the world from a different perspective. It feels more... alive."

They continued their journey after a short rest. The carriage moved slowly along the widening dirt road, surrounded by increasingly open hills and forests. The two zombie horses ran happily, clearly enjoying their freedom after two days in the stable.

As afternoon approached, they saw Silvermist in the distance, a dium-sized city with grayish-white stone walls and elegant towering towers. Smoke rose from house chimneys, and the faint sound of market bells could be heard from afar, carrying the promise of a new city full of opportunities.

Sylvia gently pulled the reins. "We’ll stay in Silvermist tonight. Tomorrow we’ll continue searching for another rift."

Stacia smiled as she closed her novel. "Finally, we can sleep in a more comfortable bed again."

Alicia nodded, her silver hair swaying gently. "And perhaps we can hear more news from the outside world."

The simple rchant carriage continued rolling slowly toward Silvermist, leaving Eldridge farther behind them. Their journey in search of greater power continued calm, patient, and full of determination.
