Chapter 401: Chapter 397 – The Rank Eight Roar That Shakes the River Night
KRAAAKKK BOOOOMMM!!!
The sound of the shattering dinsional rift still echoed in the air like the world’s glass exploding all at once, leaving tremors that made the riverbank ground shake violently. Their small bonfire flickered wildly, its flas nearly dying before flaring back up with a panicked hssssss. The pieces of Demon Wyrm at that had been steaming fragrantly were now scattered across the damp grass, completely forgotten. The surrounding black mist swirled savagely like a small storm, and the once calm, clear river now churned violently, spraying water everywhere.
The rank 8 monster finally stepped fully out of the gaping rift above the river. Just its head alone was already the size of a castle hall. Sharp obsidian scales glead darkly under the flickering firelight, long curved horns like giant swords twisting toward the purple-black sky, and two blazing red eyes like hungry pits of hell. Its jaws opened wide, tree-sized fangs dripping thick black fluid that instantly corroded the air around it.
GRRRROOOAAARRRR!!!
Its roar shook the entire riverbank, sending dry leaves flying and making the small treants in the distance scream in panic plop-plop-plop!
Noir reacted instantly. The zombie dragon’s body enlarged in a split second its jet-black scales expanded, muscles bulged, reaching 10 ters tall and 30 ters long. Its previously lazy-swishing tail now whipped the grass like a giant scourge. Although it still looked small compared to the rank 8 monster’s towering head, Noir let out a ferocious GRRRRRRR! and leaped forward, ready to attack.
Sylvia stood in the midst of the chaos, her black cloak fluttering wildly in the sudden storm wind. Her red eyes blazed brightly, the peaceful fla in her chest earlier now roaring like an ocean of death. "Rank eight," she murmured softly, yet her voice was cold and filled with determination. "This... is more than I expected."
Sofia imdiately spread her ten golden wings wide, holy light illuminating the dark riverbank. "Sylvia! This is too strong! This rift isn’t from Stacia’s magic anymore!"
Stacia pulled out her thick grimoire from storage, its ancient pages flipping rapidly with flap-flap-flap sounds. Blood-red flas ignited at her fingertips. "I didn’t open this one! It’s a natural rift that broke because the rank 8 energy forced its way in! Sylvia, I’m ready to assist!"
Alicia gripped her silver staff tightly, its tip glowing with cold light. "I’ll guard the rear. Don’t let that monster get near the castle!"
Sylvia didn’t waste words. She took one step forward, and the entire aura around her changed.
Death Aura – Sovereign Field! Activated.
A pitch-black circle spread from her body up to a 300-ter radius. The air instantly grew heavy, as if the law of death itself was pressing down on everything. Every creature within the area including the rank 8 monster felt their souls bound to Sylvia’s death. The monster roared again GRRRROOOAAARRRR!!!, but this ti its roar sounded pained, as if invisible chains were dragging away its vitality.
"Noir, advance!" Sylvia commanded.
The giant zombie dragon leaped with full power. Its 30-ter body slamd through the air with a heavy THUDDD!, its enlarged claws slashing toward the monster’s head. But the rank 8 monster simply shook its head once SWOOSH! and the wind from its horns alone sent Noir flying backward, crashing into the grass with a ground-shaking BOOMMM!
Sylvia didn’t hesitate. Reaper Claw! Her right hand transford into an absolute death claw pitch black with energy that no armor, barrier, or law could withstand. She leaped upward using Death Step – Eternal Mirage! Instant movent her body vanished for a mont and reappeared right in front of the monster’s eye.
Invincibility (3 seconds) activated.
Her claw slashed straight into one of the glowing red eyes SLASHHHH!!!
Thick black blood spurted out like a fountain, accompanied by the sickening SSSSSSST! sound of instantly rotting flesh. The monster roared in agony KRRRAAAAAHHH!!!, but Sylvia didn’t stop. Eclipse Rend! Dinsional slashes flew from her claws, erasing layers of the monster’s existential defense. Small cracks appeared in the space around its head, as if reality itself was tearing apart.
Stacia didn’t stay idle. Her thick grimoire opened to the highest space-ti magic page. "Chronospace Dominion – Temporal Acceleration!" She cast the spell, and silver-purple waves spread like distorted ti ripples. Space around her allies slowed for the enemy, while Sylvia, Noir, Sofia, and Alicia moved far faster, a pure space-ti buff that made every step feel like leaping between seconds. The dinsional rift above the river trembled violently, its edges distorting and temporarily narrowing. "This will disrupt the rift while speeding us all up!"
Alicia swung her staff forward. Her transparent spirit body began to glow faintly, like unseen soul shadows. Dark silver light blazed at the tip of her staff. "Soul Eclipse Shackles!" Invisible soul chains shot out, piercing directly into the monster’s soul without touching its physical body. CRACK-CRACK-CRACK! The soul shackles drained the monster’s vitality and spiritual power dozens of tis faster, drastically slowing its movents as if its giant soul was being dragged into an abyss of darkness.
Sofia flew upward, her ten wings illuminating the entire area. "I’ll protect you all!" Her holy light clashed with the monster’s dark aura, creating a blinding explosion BOOOOMMM!
But the rank 8 monster refused to yield easily. Its massive head lowered, jaws snapping toward Sylvia with a loud CHOMP!!! Sylvia activated Dominion Lock – Absolute! The area within 1 kiloter was locked.
The monster roared even louder GRRRROOOAAARRRR!!!, and this ti its entire body began forcing its way out of the rift. Its enormous shoulders erged, widening the rift with a deafening KRRRRRRAAAKKK!!! that shook the distant back mountain of Nocture. Its true size was monstrous, even just half its body erging turned the once-clear river into a stormy sea.
Sylvia felt adrenaline surge through her immortal body. This wasn’t level six anymore. This was rank eight. This was truly worthy. Mortifera Core activated passively, ensuring she couldn’t die unless her soul core was completely destroyed. Queen’s Flesh III gave her 500,000 HP/s regeneration, while High-MP Regeneration restored 100,000 MP/s. She smiled thinly cold yet filled with excitent. "Good... this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for since the small bonfire two nights ago."
She activated her Original Skill: CHAIN TECHNIQUE – ETERNAL FORMATION!
Form 1: Binding pitch-black chains spread out CLANK-CLANK-CLANK! within an 80-ter radius, shackling the monster’s head.
Form 2: Shield absolute chains ford a barrier around the group, lasting 120 seconds.
Form 3: Death Spiral the chains began spinning, massively draining the monster’s HP and MP WHIRRRRRRR!
The monster thrashed its head THUD-THUD-THUD!, every movent shattering rocks along the riverbank. But Sylvia didn’t retreat. She leaped again with Death Step, appearing above the monster’s head. Decay Rain – Kuro Eclipse! Black rain fell from the locked sky, dealing 100,000 HP/s damage for 60 seconds and nullifying all regeneration. PITTER-PATTER-PITTER-PATTER! The deadly sound of death rain poured down.
Noir, now enlarged, leaped again, sinking its fangs into the monster’s shoulder scales CRUNCHHH!!! Though its 30-ter body was still small compared to the monster that was now halfway out, Noir’s undead bite prevented the wounds from healing.
Stacia flipped another page of her grimoire, strengthening the space-ti buff. "Chronospace Dominion – Layered Acceleration!" A second wave of ti ripples made her allies even faster, while the space around the monster felt like dinsional mud.
Alicia spun her staff, her transparent spirit body becoming clearer. "Soul Eclipse Shackles – Overdrive!" The soul chains thickened, driving the soul debuff even deeper into the monster’s core.
Sofia fired holy light from her wings ZIIINGGGG!!! weakening the monster’s dark aura.
The battle grew increasingly intense. The once-clear river had turned into a whirlpool of black blood and poisonous water. The bonfire had completely died out; only the light from Sylvia’s, Sofia’s, Stacia’s, and Alicia’s skills illuminated the darkness. The black mist swirled like a tornado. The monster’s roars GRRRROOOAAARRRR!!! continued to echo, mixing with Noir’s GRRRRR! and Stacia’s dramatic shouts as she flipped through her grimoire.
Sylvia’s chest was no longer filled with boredom, but with pure battle exhilaration. She activated the Final Form of Chain Technique: UNIFICATION! All her stats increased by 600% for 90 seconds. Her body glowed with pitch-black light, her claws becoming even deadlier. Phantom Bloom III blood throughout the space around the monster, sucking souls from within.
SLASHHHH!!! BOOOOMMM!!! CRRRAAASHHH!!!
Every slash, every explosion, every roar shook Nocture. The rank 8 monster was still trying to fully erge from the rift, but Sylvia’s Dominion Lock kept it trapped in place. Its head was already severely wounded, one horn cracked with a CRACK! from her Reaper Claw.
But the battle was far from over. The monster’s increasingly erging body widened the rift further, and its rank 8 energy began pulling other high-level monsters from different dinsions. Sylvia knew this was only the beginning. The night that had started warm with grilled at had now turned into a battlefield on the riverbank that was no longer clear.
She glanced back briefly at Sofia still protecting them with her wings, Stacia rapidly flipping pages to maintain the space-ti buffs, Alicia whose transparent spirit body glowed as she stacked soul debuffs, and Noir bravely fighting despite being smaller. They were all still here. Not because the queen ordered it, but because of the sa bond they shared during the small bonfire the other night.
Sylvia raised her Mortis Form claw once more, her red eyes blazing brighter. "Continue," she said quietly, her voice lost in the roar of battle. "This isn’t over yet."
And the rank 8 monster’s roar echoed again GRRRROOOAAARRRR!!! even more savagely, as if answering the challenge of the Queen of Death who had finally found a worthy opponent.
