Chapter 380: Sister, by doing this, I can only act recklessly once (first update, asking for monthly vote)_1
Pei Jinye and Wei Shurao didn’t chat for long before a middle-aged woman dressed in a blue and white patterned mandarin collar dress walked in. She was average-looking but appeared to be well-maintained.
“Captain Wei,” the middle-aged woman seed to be an old acquaintance of Wei Shurao, but her deanor carried a trace of awe that Pei Jinye could detect.
This reverence was attributed by Pei Jinye solely to Wei Shurao’s standing.
Earlier, during his chat with Doctor Huang, the doctor had hinted that Captain Wei was no small fry.
As to how influential, that Pei Jinye did not know.
“This is our team’s Pei Jinye. I hope you’ll take care of him for his study tour at your esteed organization,” Wei Shurao stood up, his tone amiable.
The middle-aged woman smiled politely, “How can that be, Captain Wei? You are too courteous.”
Wei Shurao didn’t say much more to her, rely asking her to ensure Pei Jinye’s safe arrival.
Shortly after, the middle-aged woman left with Pei Jinye.
Only then did Pei Jinye learn that this woman was nad Hu Xiu, a Third Class Elemant Master of the Elental Association.
The mbers of the Elental Association were divided among five grades.
The lowest being Fifth Rank, the highest First Grade.
“As the rank denotes the status of a person, of course, in so sense, it also signifies the individual’s strength. Above the Third Class are the big shots; you must be extrely cautious when you join the Elental Association,” Hu Xiu spoke calmly from within the car. “If you really provoke those people, I won’t be able to help you, and even with your close relationship with Captain Wei, it would require a lot of effort for him to pull you out.”
Once they had left the Inspection Team, Hu Xiu’s previously warm and smiling face beca sowhat numb, not really trying to please Pei Jinye.
Pei Jinye didn’t mind.
In fact, Hu Xiu had said enough along the way.
She didn’t even need to tell him all this; silence would have been her duty, while her words were a form of kindness, so regardless of her deanor, Pei Jinye felt indebted for the favor.
“How does a Second Grade Elental Master correspond to the ranks of the masters?” Pei Jinye asked curiously.
“Fifth Rank,” replied Hu Xiu, looking puzzled, unsure if he really did not know. “This study seminar is also your chance to join the Elental Association. Being an Elent Master is way more lucrative than being a mber of your Inspection Team. Although, nominally, this training is only for six months, if you really do perform well, naturally there’ll be ways to move you up.”
Pei Jinye understood.
In fact, his thoughts delved even deeper.
He was well aware that the current classification for Transcendents was different from the one in the new era he had experienced.
From the mories he had previously Devoured, he knew that the current strength classifications were sowhat inflated.
With his Third Rank capability to challenge one above at Fourth Rank, asured against this world’s level of power, he had the potential to contest even the ordinary Fifth Rank.
Of course, these were all his assumptions at present.
Whether he could really win in a fight, he would only know after really fighting it out.
“This ti, the study seminar is organized precisely by the Elental Association, which comprises eight Internal Courts nad Shock, Li, Dui, Kan, Xun, Kun, Qian, and Gen. As for which court you’ll join, it will depend on which court leader chooses you at the ti.”
Pei Jinye nodded in understanding.
His purpose in joining this Elental Association study seminar was to acquire more knowledge about cultivation.
How could the people now know how tightly guarded the cultivation environnt would be in later generations?
…
“Elent Masters will awaken their Life-bonding Elent and cultivate the corresponding Elental Heart thod. Each Elental Heart thod consists of nine layers, the first three being foundational. Starting from the Fourth Layer, how soon one can break through to the Sixth Layer signifies whether one can truly comprehend the mysteries of the Elents…
Those Loose Cultivators out there, without our Elental Association’s Elental Heart thod, unless they are incredibly lucky, generally struggle to grasp the true mysteries of the Elents… and following different court leaders will lead to different experiences,” Hu Xiu said with significant implication. “So court leaders are good at ntoring, while others are rather aloof.”
Seeing this, Pei Jinye inquired which court Hu Xiu belonged to.
To his surprise, she had already left the Internal Court and had beco an Outer Court Administrator.
Before approaching the door, Pei Jinye discreetly passed her a stack of bills.
“Sister Hu Xiu, I an no disrespect. This journey has been very enlightening thanks to your guidance.”
Hu Xiu didn’t accept and said with a half-smile, “Don’t try to butter up. Take your things back. Having this consideration shows you’re not foolish. But I must remind you that money is worthless in the Elental Association. What’s valuable is Elental coins. Earn more of those by doing tasks; they can be exchanged for good items you can’t find outside.”
Pei Jinye had to retract the bills with an “embarrassed” gesture.
He ntally noted the Elental coins.
…
Under Hu Xiu’s arrangents, Pei Jinye stayed at an inn at the foot of the Elental Association’s mountain.
He then learned that this inn was run by Hu Xiu’s relatives, which in so sense might an the relatives were simply managing it on her behalf.
A thousand a day to live in a cramped room, and still it was overcrowded with people.
Pei Jinye could only conclude that money from the naive was indeed easy to earn.
…
A day later.
Pei Jinye, carrying a token, went up the mountain alone at the agreed ti.
Hu Xiu seed busy with her affairs. They had already severed their temporary association the day before, leaving Pei Jinye feeling sowhat regretful.
Last night, auntie stayed in his room for a long while, talking about many things.
He just sighed to himself, appreciating that Aunt Hu Xiu was a very understanding and considerate person.
…
Nine-thirty in the morning.
