At this moment, Lorelei had already released her battling Pokémon: a powerful Lapras.
The Lapras looked like a graceful fusion of a plesiosaur and a sea turtle. Its back was covered by a grey, extremely hard shell with bumpy protrusions—perfect for a rider. Known for their high intelligence, some Lapras can understand human speech, and rare individuals can even communicate via telepathy.
Pokémon: Lapras Gender: Female Aptitude: Epic (Cyan) Level: 58 Ability: Hydration Type: Water
Ice Status: Slightly drowsy Evaluation: Possesses extraordinary Ice-type talent. Can glide across ice with incredible speed and flash-freeze opponents stronger than itself.
The Lapras gazed at Feng Che with a gentle look.
"Come, Feng Che," Lorelei said, her eyes flashing with the excitement of a "Battle Witch." "Which one will you show me? Your Incineroar, Greninja, or perhaps that formidable Alolan Niales?"
"Go, Incineroar!" Feng Che decided to stick with his powerhouse.
"Incineroar, hm? Planning to use fire to melt my ice? You might find your efforts are in vain. Lapras, Icy Wind!"
Lapras glided across the frozen floor with startling speed, appearing beside Incineroar in a blur. A frigid gust erupted from its mouth.
"Incineroar, ignite your fur with Ember!"
Feng Che reacted instantly. Sparks flew from Incineroar's flame belt, lighting up its mane. However, the sheer chill of the Icy Wind was so intense that it snuffed out the flames immediately, leaving frost crystals clinging to Incineroar's fur. It was nearly frozen solid in a single move.
As expected of the Ice Queen, Feng Che thought. "Incineroar, use Flamethrower on the ground! Strip away her home-field advantage!"
A blast of white-hot fire melted the ice into water, but Lorelei didn't blink. "Lapras, Icy Wind again."
In an instant, the water refroze into a thick layer of permafrost. Even the lingering embers from Incineroar were trapped inside the ice blocks.
"Feng Che, I know this Incineroar has more to show," Lorelei said with a knowing smile. "Hagen told me about an Incineroar that thrashed his Steelix. This one feels a bit... suppressed. Show me your true strength. Regardless of the outcome, I will give you my passing mark."
Feng Che felt a jolt of alarm. Did she see through the suppression? He took a breath and nodded. "Then, thank you, Elite Lorelei. Incineroar, let loose!"
The Omega symbol flared on Incineroar's body. Its blood began to boil like magma, and an aura of the "Scorching Earth" surged outward. The ice melted instantly, and the arena transformed into a miniature volcanic zone.
"I see... the essence of the scorching earth," Lorelei murmured. "Lapras, Ice Beam!" "Incineroar, Fire Blast!"
The blue ray and the white-hot kanji of fire collided. An explosion of white flames expanded, threatening to engulf Lapras.
"Lapras, Hydro Pump!" Lorelei shouted, sensing that those white flames would cause devastating damage if they touched her partner. The water hit the fire with a violent hiss and massive clouds of steam, yet the white flames refused to die out, creeping closer to Lapras.
"That's enough, Incineroar. Recall the flames and stand down," Feng Che commanded. Incineroar's belt sucked the white fire back in, and it reverted to its normal state, looking visibly drained.
"It seems that 'Frenzy Mode' consumes a lot of stamina," Lorelei noted, gliding toward him on Lapras's back. She handed him a crystalline crown. "This is my token. You will soon be our peer, Feng Che. But remember: if you let Viridian City fall into chaos, I will remove you without mercy."
"I understand. I will uphold the peace of Viridian City," Feng Che promised.
The Ghost Platform
Feng Che moved to the final arena. It was a place of shadows and flickering purple lights. Numerous Litwick and Chandelure played in the rafters until the heavy doors creaked open.
Agatha sat at the far end, leaning on her cane with her eyes closed. As Feng Che entered, she stood up, her gaze surprisingly kind.
"Feng Che, you've arrived quickly. It seems the others couldn't hold you back. I almost regret not taking you as a disciple earlier... though, at this point, I have nothing left to teach you. You've already surpassed the teacher."
Agatha's eyes suddenly sharpened, focusing on the air around Feng Che. "However... you seem to have a 'friend' following you very closely in secret."
Feng Che's heart hammered against his ribs. [Crap! Mewtwo, did she see you?] he sent via telepathy.
[Impossible,] Mewtwo replied, sounding genuinely baffled. [My psychic invisibility shouldn't be breakable by a normal human. I don't feel any detection... how did she find me?]
