Even though the city seed peaceful, Miguel learned that beast attacks would happen every now and then.
Aside from the threat of the beasts, they must also prepare and guard against invading forces like armies from other empires.
Though sothing like this rarely happens, the Blazing Expanse was situated south of the ven Empire. The other empires were situated up north, and the cities up there were said to be still at war with the other empires even at this mont.
While the city guards were controlled directly by the city lord, the sa could not be said for the army. They were under the command of the governor, who was now in Infernal Province. The ones who controlled and commanded them in each city were the sergeants.
Either way, most of the important positions in Blazing Expanse were infested by the Red Family, so it doesn’t matter who’s controlling who.
At this mont, a person clad in gorgeous clothing like the one worn by Alderic and so guards wearing armor ca trotting toward them.
The people made way for them as they arrived right in front of Miguel and the other two.
The one in front, a beer-bellied man with red hair and mustache, cupped his hand toward Miguel and stated, "Good day, Elder Journey, and Miss Edith, and... "
"Good day to you as well, City Lord Cardino; her na is Ali," Miguel stated with a flat tone.
Although City Lord Cardino seed smiling and nonchalant, Miguel could tell at a glance that he was vigilant and suspicious toward them. A hint of glee was also present behind his smile.
Although he hid it exceptionally well, how could sothing like that escape Miguel’s acute senses?
Miguel acted as though nothing was happening as he returned the polite greeting.
A mont later, City Lord Cardino ntioned the two bodies in the woods. They ntioned the identities of the two bodies, Orman and Sendal.
"Forgive us for the inconvenience, Elder Journey, but will you please co with us peacefully for the investigation?"
Due to their recent altercation during the inauguration ceremony and the fact that the bodies were found near his villa, he had beco the number one suspect in the cri.
They were actually already on their way to his villa when one of the guards saw him, and the other two walked down the path from the villa.
From what Miguel knew, there was heavy punishnt for murder inside the city.
Fighting was not prohibited, though, as long as it didn’t result in murder. It was also best if the fight happened in broad daylight, so that the onlookers would know that they were not the target.
The cities were the only safe place for most people; hence, the authorities don’t want this place to beco a place of blood like outside the city as well.
If proven guilty, the perpetrator would be sentenced to 100 years inside the insect prison; depending on their level and strength, the sentence might even be extended.
Miguel did not know the details about the insect prison yet; all he knew was that it was a place for grueso and slow torture.
Being accused of the cri, Edith and Aaliyah imdiately emitted their Gold King Aura, startling everyone present, including City Lord Cardino.
"Are you saying that it was us who did it?" Edith bellowed at the top of her lungs as the ornantal sword appeared on her hands.
The temperature suddenly rose as beads of sweat appeared on everyone’s foreheads. Even the civilians a few ters away felt fear rising through their veins.
Unknowingly, multiple balls of fire had already appeared out of thin air around Aaliyah.
Seeing the pressing situation, City Lord Cardino cursed under his breath as he shouted hurriedly, "Calm down, calm down. Elder Journey is just a suspect. We still need to investigate the matter further."
Although he was the city lord, his strength was not that great, and he would not be able to contend with a Gold Grade at all. He also did not expect that there was now another Gold Grade beside him that they did not know of previously.
He thought that they must reevaluate the threat of Journey with this new information.
"Hmmp!" Edith retracted her sword after she received an order from Miguel telepathically.
In truth, she and Aaliyah knew that it was truly Miguel who did it. They were just putting on an act.
"Haha, I apologize for my summons behavior, City Lord. Of course, I will gladly assist you with your investigations. But is it too much to ask if we eat first? You see, we just woke up a few minutes ago, and our stomachs are still empty and devoid of any food," Miguel stated politely, without a hint of animosity in his voice.
Cardino heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing his soothing words.
He nodded his head slowly and stated, "Of course, I respect your decision, Elder Journey. We will be waiting for you at our station later. n, let’s go."
He then trotted away along with the guards that accompanied him.
Even though he was the City Lord, he knew that he must not act arrogant, especially since a lot of onlookers were present.
And if it weren’t for Journey’s status and strength, would he have acted the sa way as he does now?
Miguel looked at their departing figures with interest.
City Lord Cardino was just a weak summoner. What he was curious about were the two guards beside him earlier. It was the two of them who managed to wake up quickly from the combined Gold King Aura of Edith and Aaliyah earlier.
