Agram stepped through the dissipating veil of illusions, his hulking fra erging like a shadow made flesh. Each step cracked stone beneath his boots, and the once-glowing glyphs shattered like glass under his presence. Rage burned in his eyes—cold, disciplined fury honed by decades of war.

The Warhound had been unleashed.

Around him, remnants of his battalion rallied to his presence. But the illusion field had done its damage. The battlefield writhed in disarray without clear orders, with two generals dead and the chain of command in chaos.

Then Agram raised his arm.

A blood-red glyph flared across his palm.

"Crimson Judgnt."

The sky darkened as red lightning spiraled upward, then exploded outward in a do of death. Militia soldiers scread as fire and shadow engulfed the ridge. Half of Lucas’s forces were swept into the blast—n and beast-bonds alike hurled like ragdolls.

Lucas clenched his teeth. "Aegis—NOW!"

[Skill Activation: Aegis of the Ancients]

A golden do erupted around Lucas and the core of his command. It pulsed like a heartbeat, absorbing the shockwave. Kaela shielded a wounded scout while Elira wrapped her arms around Luna, eyes narrowed.

The storm passed.

Inside the barrier, they still stood.

Outside it, the battlefield was a graveyard.

"Form up!" Reynard’s voice cracked like a whip. "Defensive lines on ! Mages, shields up! Archers, suppressive fire!"

Reynard took command as Lucas turned his gaze toward Agram, who now stalked toward the army’s heart like an unchallenged beast. Soldiers fled at the sight—so of his n abandoning ranks.

Traitors.

Agram saw them.

With a sweep of his arm, he unleashed dark tendrils that impaled the deserters in an instant.

"Cowards die cowards’ deaths," he snarled. Blood sprayed across the dirt.

So of the defectors turned back, trembling. Their will be broken.

Lucas advanced with his party, blades raised. "You can’t hide behind fear forever, Agram."

The warlord didn’t even glance at him. He continued moving toward the militia.

"Afraid to fight ?" Lucas called, narrowing his eyes. "Or do you only kill n who can’t fight back?"

That got his attention.

Agram stopped.

"Afraid?" He turned. "No. Just patient."

With a snarl, Agram’s aura surged. Crimson flas licked his body as he activated a strength-boosting skill.

[Skill Activation: Blood Might]

He blurred forward, slamming both fists into Kaela and Elira.

Both warriors were flung like teors across the field, smashing through barricades.

But Aegis held.

They lived.

For now.

Then the shield flickered.

[System Alert: Aegis of the Ancients – Cooldown Initiated]

The light vanished.

Agram roared and charged through Lucas’s army like a juggernaut. Swords shattered against his skin. Spells fizzled on impact. Bodies fell by the dozen.

"Retreat to the castle!" Reynard bellowed. "Fall back!"

Lucas gritted his teeth. He opened his system.

[Skill Fusion Available: Umbra Zephyra]

He accepted.

[Skill Activation: Phantom Tempest]

Dark lightning erupted around him. A spectral lion’s roar rged with a shriek of thunder. Lucas’s body glowed as he fused their essences into his form. His blades extended into twin glaives of shadow-light.

He t Agram head-on.

The two clashed with the sound of gods striking anvils. Lightning crashed. Blades scread. The air distorted with every exchange.

Still, Lucas couldn’t land a killing blow.

Agram was too strong.

Too armored.

Too relentless.

Agram raised his warblade and struck Lucas square in the chest. The fusion broke. Energy exploded outward.

Lucas was hurled like a cot, crashing near the castle gates.

He coughed up blood. His arms trembled.

He couldn’t rise.

Kaela and Elira saw it—saw him fall.

"Lucas!"

They charged.

Agram was already there.

He kicked Lucas in the ribs.

Again.

And again.

"You call yourself a commander?" Agram sneered. "You’re not even a warrior."

Lucas groaned, blood dribbling down his lip.

"Once you’re dead, I’ll drag every one of your little friends back to Stonewatch," Agram growled. "Those two... Kaela and Elira. They’ll make fine slaves. Especially with faces like theirs."

Kaela’s eyes went wide with rage.

Elira nocked an arrow, fury trembling in her fingers.

But it was Reynard who moved.

He tackled Agram from behind.

"Run!" Reynard shouted. "Get him out of here!"

Kaela was already in motion, lifting Lucas onto her shoulder.

"Elira!"

"I’ve got him!" Elira’s voice was steel.

She drew back.

Fired.

The arrow slamd into Agram’s shoulder.

He barely flinched.

He pulled it out.

Then he turned and stabbed Reynard.

Straight through the heart.

"No!" Lucas cried.

He reached for his blade, but his strength failed him.

The Aegis skill was still on cooldown.

Kaela dragged him back, tears streaking her dirt-covered face.

Elira covered their retreat, arrows flying as she wept silently.

They fled toward the last array Malrick had activated near the castle.

Agram pursued.

But as he crossed the threshold, the glyphs flared.

The trap closed.

[Illusion Array: Bastion Maze Activated]

The warlord roared in frustration as the world twisted around him.

Lucas faded into unconsciousness.

The castle walls lood behind them.

Inside, terrified civilians huddled.

Kaela collapsed, Lucas in her arms. Elira knelt beside her.

They were safe.

For now.

But so was Agram.

And they had just trapped themselves in with him.

...

Agram’s POV

The world fractured. Walls that didn’t exist now surrounded him. Reflections of himself echoed in every direction, each one bleeding shadows. The illusion twisted space and ti, confounding his senses.

Agram stood still, breathing deep, fists trembling with fury.

"Cowards... rats hiding in mirrors," he growled.

He struck a wall—only for it to ripple like water and reform.

"I will tear this world down to reach you, Lucas Carter."

He closed his eyes, visualizing the battlefield, the scent of blood, the satisfying crunch of ribs under his boot. But his mind flashed to sothing else—Reynard’s face, just before death.

A mory. A mont.

Agram hadn’t expected the butler to move so quickly. Hadn’t expected him to die without fear.

That was what angered him most.

Not the arrow. Not the trap.

The sacrifice.

Because it reminded him of what he never had.

...

In the dark quiet of unconsciousness, Lucas drifted through mory.

He stood in the library of his new estate, just weeks after reincarnation. Reynard stood beside him, correcting his posture.

"Your father believed in diplomacy first, blade second," the butler had said.

Lucas frowned. "And what do you believe in?"

Reynard had smiled faintly. "In you. Whatever path you choose."

Another mory—

The first night, Lucas tad Umbra. He had nearly died.

Reynard was there, waiting with bandages. And silence.

Another—Lucas rembering the first ti he laughed in this world. It was awkward and uncertain. He was sitting by the fire, exhausted and defeated after failing to summon magic properly. Reynard had handed him tea, then made a dry joke about nobles burning libraries down with their first spells.

Lucas had laughed—truly laughed. And Reynard had bowed mockingly. "Progress, my lord."

But his eyes spoke pride.

Now he was gone.

...

Lucas stirred in Kaela’s arms. Tears leaked from the corner of his eye.

Elira looked back as they crossed into the castle.

"He bought us ti," she whispered.

Kaela tightened her grip.

They were safe.

For now.

But they had lost more than a battle.

They had lost family.

...

Lucas awoke in the castle infirmary. Dust and torchlight danced in the corners. Bandages bound his chest, but pain flared every ti he breathed.

He tried to move.

Kaela was there first. "Don’t. You’re not ready."

Elira appeared beside her, eyes rimd red. "You need to rest."

"No," Lucas said hoarsely. "I need to stand."

They helped him. One hand on each arm.

His legs trembled—but he stood.

He looked around at the injured, the frightened civilians, the tired faces of the militia.

And then, Lucas raised his voice.

"I know what you see when you look at right now," he said, steadying his breath. "A broken man. A fallen commander. A boy pretending to lead."

He paused.

"But I’ve seen the truth today. I’ve seen courage that no spell can match. I’ve seen loyalty that no blade can pierce. I’ve seen a man give his life so the rest of us could breathe another second."

His voice cracked—but he kept going.

"Reynard didn’t believe in because I was powerful. He believed in because he saw sothing I couldn’t see in myself."

He looked at Kaela, at Elira, at every soldier who t his eyes.

"And now I see it too."

"I am still standing. And as long as I draw breath, I swear to you—Agram will not win. We will not break. We will not bow. We will endure. Not just for ourselves... but for those who fell believing in us."

The room was silent. Then soone clapped. Then another.

Until the hall thundered with renewed hope.

Lucas’s legs wavered—but Kaela and Elira kept him standing.

Together.
