When Shen ng got ho, Lu Zhenping had not yet returned, so she quickly stacked the coal briquettes in the firewood room and took out the items she had brought from her space, placing them in the cabinet.

As Lu Mingyang and the two others pushed open the courtyard door, they saw Shen ng taking out one piece of thermal clothing after another from the basin.

"Mom, did you buy so many thermals? When did you co back and wash them?"

"I ca back quite a while ago. Why did you all co back so late? Are you hungry? Mom will go cook."

Lu Mingyang scratched his head; when he ca ho, he had already tried the door, and there was nobody at ho. Fortunately, when Dad left, he had ntioned to Uncle and Auntie that if they were late coming back, they should go to their house for a al; otherwise, they would have been hungry at noon.

But when he tried the door, Mom was clearly not at ho – and not much ti had passed since then. His eyes swept over the clothes hung up around them, and he couldn’t help but exclaim internally that his mom was getting more and more efficient at doing chores.

"We’ve eaten at Auntie’s. She even specially fried so eggs today, fearing we’d get hungry in the afternoon, and she made pancakes sprinkled generously with sesa seeds!"

"That’s great. I ran into so trouble in the county and got held up for a bit. As long as you’ve eaten, it’s fine. Today, I was lucky and managed to buy bath covers at the Cooperative Society. Tonight, you boys will be able to have a proper bath. Mingyang and Mingliang, let your dad scrub you clean at night, and I’ll wash Ming Fang."

The three children, seeing the smiling expression full of joy on their mom’s face, awkwardly forced a smile. They weren’t exactly looking forward to bathing and being scrubbed clean, since although it was unpleasant to be dirty, being washed by their dad was very painful – as painful as slaughtering a pig.

"Mom, Teacher Zheng said there will be a test in a few days and asked you to co to school with us. You should review well tonight."

Shen ng: "...."

They say you’re fat, and you even pant; yet in front of your own mother, you’re putting on airs!!!

Lu Mingliang was completely oblivious to his mother’s gaze and continued to ander around in front of her with his hands behind his back.

"We’re going to school now, Mom. We’ll be late if it gets any later."

Lu Mingfang pulled Lu Mingliang back a bit; she felt that the fleeting smile on their mom’s face just a mont ago must have been scheming against her second brother. Looking at her brother, who was blissfully unaware and still smiling, he was certainly headed for bad luck.

After the children went to school, Shen ng wasn’t very hungry herself. She looked at the goat’s head still hanging from the rafters and thought about it before taking out several pig’s trotters, cleaned pig’s offal, pig’s ears, pig’s tails, and pig’s head from her space.

After blanching all these items, she put them back into a pot with fresh water and added several packets of stewing spices, stuffing several logs of firewood into the stove and starting to stew them on a high fla.

Once the pot began to boil, the aroma wafted far away, causing passersby to stop in their tracks and take a peek, drooling with envy – the Zhenping’s house seed to have at to eat every day, how well off they must be!

Could a soldier really have that much money to give? Aren’t soldiers usually poor, and isn’t it said that only the poor beco soldiers?

Lu Jiahe had just co out from his pleasures, feeling on top of the world, when he rounded the corner and slled the delicious scent coming from Lu Zhenping’s house. He glared at the courtyard door and spat a mouthful of saliva fiercely onto the ground.

Just eating and drinking behind closed doors, not caring a bit about your parents and siblings! A couple like that won’t die a good death!!!

He muttered resentfully to himself for an instant before turning around and heading ho.

In the hospital.

After five hours of effort, Li Qianqian finally had a natural childbirth and delivered a little boy. Hu Biao looked at the wrinkled infant, and tears suddenly fell from his eyes.

Before he could gush over him enough, Lin Rong snatched the baby away, "Let look at my big grandson, my sweet boy, I’m your grandma!"

"Mom, be careful, the child is so small, don’t hold him so tightly."

"I’ve held children for so many years, I know how to hold a baby. Off you go!"

Hu Jinbu looked at his wife and son, then turned to Zhou Jiaojiao and said, "Mr. Zhou, I really can’t thank you enough. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have known that Qianqian was in the hospital. Thank you so much for saving my daughter-in-law and grandson. If you ever encounter any difficulties, just say the word; our whole family will definitely help out."

Zhou Jiaojiao was also very confused. She didn’t expect that the person she had casually saved was the daughter-in-law of the Textile Factory Director. She thought it was just a simple worker’s family, but it turned out to be such a big deal. She looked around and heard from the nurse that the person who had brought Li Qianqian to the hospital had left early because of a family matter.

She inwardly smirked; her elder sister-in-law was usually not very sharp-witted. It seed that the credit for saving soone should have been her sister-in-law’s, but she left before Li Qianqian’s family arrived. Now that it had co to this, she had no choice but to accept the credit and hoped it could help Jiaxuan in the future.

"What’s the big deal? I saw soone in need of help, how could I just walk away? Moreover, being pregnant myself, I thought about how anxious her family must be if they knew."

Hu Biao pinched the corner of his eye, wiping the tears on his sleeve before looking at Zhou Jiaojiao.

"My dad’s right, Mr. Zhou, you’ve saved the lives of both my wife and my son. Ah, it’s just a pity that the comrade who brought Qianqian to the hospital has gone. Otherwise, we should really give him a proper thank you."

Zhou Jiaojiao’s eyes flickered and she turned to look at Li Qianqian on the hospital bed, then said, "The one who brought Li Qianqian here was my elder sister-in-law. I’m sorry I didn’t dare to tell you earlier. It was because she was insistent on Li Qianqian following her thods. Since it was Li Qianqian’s first pregnancy, she didn’t dare not to comply. I was also afraid sothing might happen, so I didn’t speak up. I am truly sorry, fortunately Li Qianqian and the baby are both fine."

Lin Rong’s face darkened, she snorted and said, "What does this have to do with you? You had good intentions. In such cold weather, if not for you waiting there, I would have had no idea Qianqian was about to give birth. Ah, this child is really stubborn. I only criticized her a bit, and she beca defiant. Insisting on going out for a walk in the midday heat, look what happened. Not listening to the elderly’s advice leads to trouble before your eyes. I can’t let my big grandson inherit her stubbornness later on, or what good will it bring? I’ll raise the child from now on, Qianqian mustn’t touch him."

"Mom!"

Zhou Jiaojiao could only smile awkwardly when she heard this. She originally didn’t want to say anything, but since it was Shen ng who took Li Qianqian to the hospital, if she didn’t say it, Li Qianqian herself would, so it was better to co clean herself.

Ever since Shen ng was hit by a cow, she herself had never had any luck, and had been plagued by misfortune up until today. It was truly suffocating. Even a cornered rabbit will bite; she, Zhou Jiaojiao, is no Bodhisattva. She cannot always be without temper.

"Mom, what do you an by that? My own son whom I labored to give birth to, I can’t raise him? Fine, if you want to raise him, I’ll divorce Hu Biao. I’ll give you the baby right away. When he grows up, if he resents , you can repeat the words you just said and see whether he blas or hates you!"
