"Qiaoqiao, happy birthday,"

Qiao Suisui's nose turned red, and she used the motion of closing her eyes to make a wish to mask the struggle in her eyes.

Zong Fang watched her quietly, a smile accumulating in his eyes as he asked softly, "What wish did you make?"

With her eyes downturned, Qiao Suisui's eyelashes trembled slightly when she heard his question, and she said, "I want a life that I can control myself." After speaking, she didn't look at Zong Fang's smile, which had frozen on his lips; she suddenly blew out the candle, extinguishing the light in her heart as well.

All the lights in the hall had been turned off to create an atmosphere, and with the candle extinguished, they stood in the dim darkness.

Rembering the ssage Ah Jin had sent her, Qiao Suisui's gaze darkened, and she didn't take the cake he was holding out; instead, she looked up at him calmly and said, "Zong Fang, I've thought it over these past few days, and we're not suitable for each other."

Silver Eyes suddenly contracted, and Zong Fang's voice was low, "Stop it."

"I don't want to continue with your..."

"Stop it!"

Zong Fang turned his head away, his eyes deep and shadowed, and because of the dim light, no one could see his expression.

"What do I need to do for you to forgive ?"

Qiao Suisui shook her head and said earnestly, "It's not like that, I'm not blaming you. You don't need to apologize to . It's just that I really feel that our personalities aren't compatible."

Zong Fang let out a self-deprecating laugh, "Who is suitable then? Sikoses? Leberli? Or that little..." His teeth were almost clenched to breaking, but he forced himself not to spit out the last two words. He didn't know whether his reluctance to ask was because he didn't want to lose his composure in front of her or because he was afraid to hear her answer.

The man took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and pushed down the anger in them with great effort. When he opened his eyes again, he said in a low voice, "If you think it's not suitable, at least tell what the problem is. I can change."

He gently caught her wrist, his thumb rubbing against her wrist bone, full of helplessness and pleading, "Why sentence to death like this?"

She looked straight into the depths of his eyes and said, "There are irreconcilable differences between us."

She really had thought about getting along well with him... but he was just too unstable...

"You decide when to love and when to discard , Qiao Suisui, on what basis? If I hadn't been clinging to you, would we still be standing here talking?"

"Do you really think our relationship is entirely forced by you?" Qiao Suisui shook off his hand, looked up at him, and said, "Do you think you can imprison , lock in a space, prevent from contacting others, and whenever I talk to others you beco suspicious and threaten to kill them—if you were , could you fall in love with soone like that?"

Zong Fang was left speechless.

"Even so, I still wanted to try to be with you. I knew you were willful and domineering, yet I still fantasized that we could balance the differences in our relationship..."

He stood frozen in place, the feeling of blockage in his chest making it difficult to breathe. When he spoke, his voice had beco hoarse, "Let's try again. This ti I promise, Qiaoqiao, I really do promise, I'll do better..."

"You killed Simon, didn't you?"

Ah Jin had sent a tactful ssage urging her to withdraw and briefly told her the whole story, saying that the Simon family had issued a harsh threat to hunt her down. When Qiao Suisui received the notice of expulsion from school, she stared blankly at that ssage for a long ti.

She felt like a piece of driftwood in the vast deep sea; no matter how hard she tried to control the direction, she was still carried away by the waves to a place she couldn't resist.

Not knowing why she had suddenly brought this up, Zong Fang pursed his lips in silence, his complexion extrely somber, and finally, he squeezed out three words through his teeth, "He deserved to die."

Qiao Suisui gave a bitter smile. "See, can a person change that easily? You've always dealt with problems in only this way."

"What's the problem? He almost killed you; my only killing him was rciful!"

"Yes, with your strength, you can ignore the consequences! But now that Simon is dead, no one cares that you killed him; they only believe what they want to believe! His family has already sued in the Federation; my identity can't be used at school anymore, and they might even try to kill in retribution!"

The colder Qiao Suisui spoke, the less desire she had to argue with him, only feeling powerless. If not for self-preservation, she wouldn't have wanted to kill Simon at all. Even though she knew this was the ga world, everything felt so real, she couldn't remain indifferent to it. She knew Zong Fang's ferocity, but she didn't expect him to be so impulsive, even doing it so brazenly.

Even though they were so close, they were like distant mountains and seas, unable to understand each other.

The cake had fallen to the floor at so point, and the oppressive silence made Qiao Suisui not want to continue speaking. In the end, only one sentence remained: "I'm tired, I don't want to try anymore."

Zong Fang didn't watch her leaving figure, but instead stared down at the cake on the ground. The hair on his forehead hid his eyes, and his voice was monotone, as if he was a walking corpse: "Who was the first person you called when you were trapped in the library that day?"

On hearing the sudden question, Qiao Suisui frowned in confusion, then heard him say, "The last question, answer , and I won't bother you anymore."

She answered truthfully, "A classmate."

The man, as if knowing the answer in advance, showed no reaction, but with the last hope he asked, "The one with brown hair?"

The one with brown hair was Li Yi. She shook her head and said, "My roommate."

Upon hearing this, Zong Fang laughed, an extrely bitter laugh. "Both are classmates; why did you call him first?"

Qiao Suisui was stunned by the question; she hadn't thought about it, it was purely instinctual at the ti. If she had to say why, it was because in school she only trusted Carl more than Li Yi, and she called Carl because she knew he was nearby, so she took a chance. But Zong Fang's next question left her speechless.

"Even if it was because of the distance, why didn't you call your ntor Ah Jin, but him instead?"

A classmate without spiritual power, what could he help you with?

Zong Fang really wanted to blurt out this question, but he felt that the answer was too cruel, not to Qiao Suisui, but to himself.

Seeing her frown and speechless, Zong Fang suddenly burst out laughing as if he had heard sothing extrely funny. He wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes and bent over in laughter.

Qiao Suisui was frightened by his abnormal behavior. She took a step forward to check on him but saw Zong Fang turn and leave, pushing her back and closing the temple doors.

A door, two people.

The bitter taste in the heart of the person inside.

The laughter of the person outside was sorrowful.

He leaned against the door, sliding down bit by bit until he sat on the ground.

So it turned out she really didn't understand anything, not even realizing her own affection. He tipped his head back, laughing uncontrollably, feeling at that mont like a clown, both ridiculous and laughable. On the off chance, he could tolerate Sikoses, tolerate Leberli, but just couldn't tolerate that one boy.

It didn't matter that she didn't love him; he had ti to take it slow. Just like the other two n. At least that was a form of balance.

But once he discovered that she would actually rely on soone, that she was concerned, even making a special request for soone to take care of him before she left, that the first person she thought of in tis of danger was him... Zong Fang was a bystander to her sincerity, and he realized how clear the line was between liking soone and not...

His laughter was rigid and long-lasting, tears sliding from his eyes until the laughter dried up. He covered his face with both hands, his smile grotesque, and between his fingers, a pair of eyes full of murderous intent were revealed.
