Michael’s shaless and sudden move made both Leo and Iris pause for a beat, not keeping up with the situation.
Leo had been around Michael for a long ti too, so he knew Michael was... special. It was true Michael was afraid of Iris, but his behavior would swing from scared to way too comfortable, like the two of them were actually good friends.
Maybe Michael’s dizzyingly fast attitude changes were also a big reason Iris found ssing with him more fun than Leo.
Thinking about past grudges, in her mind, Leo and Michael were about equally guilty. But hitting Michael felt a lot more interesting than hitting Leo, so at so point without realizing it, her plan had changed to just wanting to beat him up.
This difference could be seen as a kind of cultural and experiential gap. Michael back in the day hadn’t carried any responsibility, had no ideals, and was a pretty smart guy but a total drifter who did whatever he felt like.
As for Leo, his background wasn’t great, and he grew up during a turbulent, unstable feudal era. Plus, he had the spirit of a revolutionary and was nearly twice Michael’s age. Put all that together, and sotis he found Michael’s behavior so ridiculous he couldn’t understand it at all.
"He he, sponsor you? It’s not like that’s impossible, right?" Iris grinned, showing off a few sharp teeth. When she smiled like that, it definitely wasn’t with good intentions.
"You don’t need to list conditions. If you support starting today, you’re officially my mom." Michael, completely shaless, imdiately shut her up.
His move shocked everyone. Leo especially, because he knew Michael wasn’t the type to care about material things. From what he’d observed, money in Michael’s eyes was like a toy—fun to have, but if he didn’t, whatever.
Iris was shocked in a different way because this was the first ti soone had given her such a weird role like that. She was the first and the strongest among the energy monsters.
But energy monsters weren’t born the sa way as normal animals. They were ford from energy, so they could never have parents or beco parents.
"Shut your mouth!" She yelled, annoyed, and at the sa ti grabbed a golden cup studded with rubies, chucking it straight at Michael’s head, making the cup dent.
Michael had just woken up from being dazed when his head got hit again. This ti, he even felt a little wet on his head. It looks like he was bleeding.
"Damn violent bastard! Don’t you know how to talk, always using force like this?"
He held his head with a grumpy, pained expression, his eyes wide open staring at Iris like they were about to pop out. And it seed like she had accidentally hit a spot with a lot of blood or sothing because the blood was flowing quite a bit.
So she picked up sothing on the ground that looked like a kind of root vegetable and shoved it straight into Michael’s mouth.
"Swallow it. Eating these energy herbs helps your body recover faster."
Mad was mad, but the injury was still more important. Michael grudgingly did as she said and sure enough, quickly felt better.
The wound on his head quickly scabbed over, stopping the bleeding. Although it wasn’t completely healed, having it like this was already really good.
Leo, observing from the side, felt that the value of the whole mountain of energy herbs in front of them was extrely high. Although not as good as holy herbs, using them for ergency first aid was no different from gaining an extra life.
"These... can I have so?" He couldn’t help it and shalessly went up to Iris to ask.
"No."
???
Iris only replied with a blunt word, making Leo feel like he was petrified. All this ti, with Michael, she kept playing around and teasing. Now suddenly talking to him so seriously felt a bit strange.
"Why not? You have so much. I’m only asking for a little. Is that not okay? We’re comrades, you know."
Leo imdiately upgraded their relationship to comrade level. It could be said that in his thought, "comrade" was the kind of relationship with the highest level of trust.
"You don’t have a place to store energy herbs. Besides, you don’t need to use this stuff right now. Take a good look at yourself. You’re just a six-year-old kid, level one," Iris seriously explained.
She wasn’t just about ssing around and hitting people. She didn’t mind giving these things to Leo, but now wasn’t the ti.
"Haha, that was too forward of ." Leo awkwardly scratched his head, but at the sa ti, his view of her shifted a little.
He felt Iris was like Michael, the type to be strangely inconsistent with their attitude but, when it mattered, still very reliable.
She ignored the two of them and started rummaging through the pile of treasures scattered on the ground. Earlier, she hadn’t dumped everything out because cleaning up would be a hassle and take too much ti.
After digging for a while, she picked up a plant that looked like a dicinal herb, its whole body fiery red and a bit sparkly. Around it radiated a faint red halo, looking like sothing extraordinary no matter how you looked at it.
"This thing right here is a holy herb. The different types of holy herbs don’t have high or low ranks, and they can’t grow any further. From my point of view, they’re like treasures for the lucky, created by this world as small gifts."
Leo’s and Michael’s eyes were glued to the treasure before them. Instinctively, they swallowed a gulp of saliva.
It made sense to feel that way because the thing in front of them was a treasure you couldn’t buy even with money. Just by eating one, a contractor at the demigod level would imdiately go up one level.
Without thinking much, they understood that if this got out, they’d probably be chased by a lot of people trying to steal it.
Iris looked at the two ’country bumpkins’ in front of her and curled her lips in a smug smile. Then she took out two more plants, each with a different shape and color. One had a sky-blue halo; the other had a pale yellow halo.
Even though Michael had guessed Iris was very rich, seeing the way she casually pulled out three holy herbs really scared him. Just how powerful a force could this massive amount of resources recruit and train?
