Facing a life-and-death threat, Zheng Yichen had no ti for second thoughts as he launched his counterattack. The blood light and the explosion clashed, completely engulfing his figure.
In reality, what the native inhabitants saw was a dense fog that dissipated into nothingness amidst the explosion.
The resultant shockwave directly destroyed all nearby defensive structures, and so transport planes that hadn’t yet landed were also affected, exploding in mid-air.
This explosion left the sky clear for miles, and several engineers stared at an instrunt in front of them, "Sothing’s wrong, based on the data we just detected... That explosion should have wiped us out."
"The force of the explosion was pulled away by sothing, or rather the explosion wasn’t targeting us." Another engineer, looking at the explosion pattern that had been analyzed and calculated, pointed out the ’trajectory’ of the explosion in the simulation.
The power of the explosion was concentrated in one place, and only the aftermath affected them, yet even just the aftermath resulted in severe damage.
"Proxy Agent... uh, what is that???" The engineer, detecting new information, looked astonished at the epicenter of the explosion, where a huge void had ford, its edges resembling shattered glass.
Although those cracks were disappearing, the massive void itself was enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
"Spatial distortion??"
"Is that a distortion? Are you telling that’s a distortion!?" The warrior beside the engineer widened his eyes and pointed at the large black void, saying, "How are we supposed to deal with that thing?"
The moving anomaly had disappeared, and according to intelligence, the threat had been completely neutralized. They wanted to breathe a sigh of relief, but one problem after another arose, and now there was this huge rift??
The scale of this rift looked big enough to fit an entire city.
"... uh, we can’t handle it, it seems to be self-repairing." The engineer shook his head, spatial rifts were rare to begin with, but the problem was that the one they were now seeing was just too large: "Perhaps the restraint force field might be sowhat useful, but our main equipnt has been destroyed."
The warrior was instantly speechless. The Continent Dividing Engine ca with its own restraint force field, but it was slow to act and hadn’t evacuated in ti during the explosion, getting destroyed by the residual shockwave. Other force field generators... had too little power.
"Let’s approach and observe for now."
"...Are you sure we won’t get sucked in?"
"Of course not." The engineer shook his head. "The vacuum created by the explosion has been filled by returning air; the wind has returned to normal, indicating the object doesn’t have the properties of an air hole, so it’s safe to approach for observation."
"Then let’s head over and take a look."
The engineer pulled out his communicator: "Have vehicles with restraint force fields on standby. Although they can’t cover the rift, they can still stabilize any unstable areas."
"And... try to find that Proxy Agent!"
There was a mont of silence on the communication channel. No one believed any being could have survived the recent explosion; after all, it shattered space itself—what kind of creature could live through that?
"Report—We’ve found the Proxy Agent’s vehicle, but it needs repair... okay, she has refused our offer to repair."
"We’re on our way." The engineering team imdiately headed to the location of the vehicle. Upon seeing the motorcycle, the team leader’s eyes twitched slightly: "By repair, you an... repainting?"
"Ah? This vehicle was deford just a mont ago." The guards stationed there hurriedly explained. They had found the motorcycle buried deep beneath the surface in the aftermath of the explosion. When discovered, the vehicle’s outer shell was badly deford.
The wheels were damaged, but by the ti the engineering team arrived, the wheels were slowly regaining their original shape, like a living thing, including the seat. As for scratches on the bodywork, those indeed required a new coat of paint.
It wasn’t that the vehicle could self-regenerate, but rather that its tires and the leather parts of the seat had these characteristics.
"I rember the tal materials we provided to the Proxy Agent had a mory effect." The leading engineer rubbed his chin. When they were in the Dusk Territory, they had provided the Proxy Agent with so of the top materials of this world.
Energy-absorbing materials and other enhancing materials—the kind that were kept in a laboratory, engineered to the highest theoretical standards. They were extrely costly to produce, a composite material that was quite challenging to manufacture.
The mory feature was just one of its many effects.
The Proxy Agent had enhanced the vehicle with that material through Dusk, so it was normal for the vehicle to have recovered, but considering the explosion was so powerful, there must have been other reasons why the vehicle withstood it, especially after seeing the photos taken by the guard earlier, the lead engineer was even more sure of his thoughts.
Unfortunately, the vehicle ca equipped with artificial intelligence, which refused their requests for inspection. Luckily, Wise Dragon No. 9 provided so records, which revealed that when the explosion occurred, there was a severe spatial distortion around the vehicle.
After that, an electromagnetic barrier burst out and collided with the explosion, the filtration by the spatial distortion and the protection of the electromagnetic barrier allowed the vehicle to withstand the initial impact, then the vehicle was pressed into the ground by the aftermath of the explosion.
"This... fine," said the engineer, sowhat tongue-tied. Electromagnetic barrier protection wasn’t considered high-end technology in their world. Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that this was a Proxy Agent’s vehicle, he wouldn’t have thought much of that kind of protection.
However, now he had a new understanding of the protection provided by electromagnetic barriers. With the kind of explosion they had just seen, even high-end shields might not have withstood it, yet the barrier that erupted from the motorcycle held back part of the explosion, although part of that was also related to the spatial distortion.
"The key must be the star-core battery, which provided a huge amount of energy," another engineer remarked. The electromagnetic barrier wasn’t really that impressive; the protective force fields of their world perform far better than electromagnetic protection.
The ability of the electromagnetic barrier to withstand the blast, to him, was more a result of brute force than finesse—using a star-core battery for power and materials that could withstand the battery’s output, not just electromagnetic barriers, but even lower-level energy shields could have so effectiveness.
"If the Proxy Agent were here, we’d provide a set of miniaturized protective field devices," said the lead engineer, shaking his head. This was their oversight, but more than worrying about the vehicle, they were concerned about the people.
A vehicle can be rebuilt, but a lost life is gone for good, not to ntion the contributions that the Proxy Agent had made to their world.
"We can ask Dusk," said Lilith’s voice.
"Right, ask Dusk!" The lead engineer smacked his forehead, "Our long-distance communication will be restored in a while, and we’ll get updates then."
The recent explosion had affected a wide area. While short-distance communication was quickly restored, restoring long-distance communication would take so ti.
But with this world’s technology and power levels, recovery wasn’t difficult. While other engineering teams were busy, local powerhouses directly intervened in the environnt, calming its restlessness and speeding up the restoration of communication.
As soon as communication was restored, they contacted the Dusk Territory’s stationed personnel, and a Dusk rcenary who had just been selected received definite information: the Proxy Agent was still alive.
"That’s insane!!" said a warrior following the engineering team, clicking his tongue. It was not that he wished for Zheng Yichen to be dead, but that the survival seed too incredible. What kind of monster could live through such an explosion?
"Phew—Since that’s the case, let’s not stand around. Get to work!!" exclaid the lead engineer, taking a deep breath and shouting loudly. Although the Proxy Agent’s vehicle was damaged, it was largely intact.
As for the internal damage, they would deal with that when the Proxy Agent returned. The problem they were facing right now was a massive space rift.
The rift’s broken edges were initially self-repairing, but after communication was restored, the speed of repair drastically slowed.
In so areas, it even split further, and the weapons equipped with restraining force fields ca into play, controlling the cracks and preventing further spreading. Once under control, those cracks slowly began to close up.
The restraining force fields were effective. Once the cracks had disappeared, removing the restraining fields did not cause the sa issue to reoccur. The key was to monitor those areas that might crack again and wait for their self-repair before addressing other spots.
However, the engineers were concerned that the rift might not be fully repairable. As the cracks healed, the number of self-healing cracks at the edges of the space rift kept diminishing...
And there was still a significant gap before the space rift would be completely closed.
They made a model calculation, and according to the current situation, once only one-third of the massive space rift was left to close, the self-healing cracks on the edges would disappear completely.
The problem was that as it healed, so areas would re-crack, aning that even when the cracks were completely gone, the shape wasn’t a perfect circle.
"...So you’re saying our world is going to have a permanent hole in it now? What if sothing cos through from the other side?" asked a local warrior, looking at the rift. The inside of the rift was pitch black, and it was impossible to see what lay at the other end. They had sent so detection equipnt through, which then experienced extre pulling and pressure.
The equipnt wasn’t damaged, which ant that anything that could withstand that pressure could pass through the space rift.
This made the local physique-cultivating warrior think of situations from sci-fi works.
Of course, in those sci-fi stories, if there really were invaders, he could just block the entrance and blow it up—that was for a regular audience. But now faced with this scenario, he couldn’t help worrying a bit.
Their world was already in a dire state; fight as they might, could they stop wreaking havoc on the world itself?
