Having been discovered, there was no longer any need to conceal his movents. Zheng Yichen revved the motorcycle to full throttle and charged out of the Dusk Cathedral’s garage. The first thing he saw in the sky was a giant ’Ring.’
A massive circle as large as a city, this ring was slowly rotating in the sky, causing the corner of Zheng Yichen’s eye to twitch involuntarily. That thing seed to be at an altitude unreachable by satellites. How much energy would be needed to get sothing so huge airborne?
"Boss, we’ve been locked onto," Lilith issued a warning, "I can’t hack into the ’Firmant’ through the network."
"...Then let’s leave this place first," he replied.
Zheng Yichen stared at the ring in the sky and continued on his way.
Although he had been targeted, he hadn’t been attacked, right? If this world were even slightly normal, not infiltrated at every level like the Three Suns World, then there should be a certain understanding of Boundary Breakers and Devourers, right? Now, this world was on the brink of apocalypse.
The fact that they still hadn’t grasped the situation... honestly, Zheng Yichen would have a way out if he faced such a job. He would have warned first if there was a fallback, but if this world had gone too insane... He would see if he should stick around or not, especially in this obviously highly advanced world.
Once outside the coverage area of the ’Firmant,’ Zheng Yichen imdiately felt the environntal anomalies. On closer inspection, so force was projecting from the edge of the ring, forming a rotating ’whirlwind circle’ that enveloped the city below.
This layer of the ring seed to have no substantial interceptive force. Zheng Yichen couldn’t see the ring from within the city; only when leaving the city did he feel a slight fluctuation, like passing through the air curtain at the entrance of a mall.
"It’s a bit cold," Zheng Yichen exhaled. The breath he let out didn’t show obvious heat, but the temperature around him was very low. This cold was not normal; water wouldn’t freeze in this chill. So physical phenona were collapsing with the environntal imbalance.
This situation was identical to the one he encountered in the previous world ravaged by the Devouring Faction. However, Zheng Yichen now had experience dealing with those ’trees.’ As long as no one intercepted him, his sharp teeth were the best weapon. Once he had gathered enough strength, he would just chop down the trees.
Of course, this would still cause certain damage to this world, but it was better than being completely drained. The current draining only weakened the world, threw off the environntal balance, and led to the collapse of physical phenona. Once the draining reached its end, the heart of the world would be completely excised.
As long as the heart remained, the world could slowly regenerate health points. Once removed, there would be no saving it.
Not to ntion the Boundary Breakers had their eye on this place. But why hadn’t the Boundary Breakers and Devourers co to blows? Zheng Yichen pondered this and decided to tackle the Devourers first. If the two weren’t fighting, the probability of a nefarious deal was very high.
Perhaps the Devourers and Boundary Breakers had already struck an agreent to only drain the blood and not take away the world’s most important ’heart.’ Should he fight the Boundary Breakers first, the Devourers might take advantage of the situation. The Boundary Breakers’ ambitions were more significant; they intended to act against the entire world. Hence, overcoming certain barriers would be necessary to secure this world.
The Devourers, however, could flee at any mont, as he had witnessed last ti.
Having made a decision, Zheng Yichen looked back at the ’Firmant’ ring one last ti. The city under the ring’s coverage had a normal environnt, and the rotating ’whirlwind circle’ also gave Zheng Yichen a sense of déjà vu. The whirlwind seed similar to the ’Light Pillar’ created by the Devourers.
Though it lacked the Light Pillar’s dramatic effect, it was enough to resist the surroundings. Zheng Yichen activated his thermal vision and could see that the ’whirlwind circle’ was accumulating ’heat,’ while the surrounding environnt lacked substantial natural heat.
This device was likely a resistance asure from the world’s original inhabitants, broadly protecting the city and other populated areas. Looking off into the distance, he could also see other rings in various regions. Those structures were large, visible even from a great distance.
Resistance indicated that the people of this world were not fooled, not accelerating the native world’s destruction, which allowed Zheng Yichen to breathe a bit easier.
At least he wouldn’t have to deal with direct conflicts with the indigenous people of this world. Frankly, when coming to worlds on the verge of apocalypse, battling Boundary Breakers or other factions wasn’t the worst part, even if the Boundary Breakers had upgraded their version and introduced ’Descent of God’ technology.
Compared to those, the most frustrating issue remained the targeting from the native inhabitants. Being sent to agonizingly ’save the world’ for work, under ti pressure no less, and then the locals were still dragging their feet—a punishnt shouldn’t be like this!
Now he could be sowhat confident that the natives of this place were still sane, which was good enough. Worlds with a higher environntal ranking also offered corresponding benefits. At least once the local natives realized certain things, they could play a more significant role in resistance.
It was better than being wiped out by the indigenous people of the ho world before the world itself had finished collapsing,
Zheng Yichen’s gaze withdrew from the ’Firmant’ above. Such a construction had a technological style and other aspects, which proved the developnt trend of this world. However, there was more information in the data collected by Lilith.
