"You want to et with the Princess?" Elena remarked, slightly surprised by the sudden request.
Alex nodded. "Is it possible?"
"Well, I don’t know. I an the last ti you completely humiliated her so I’m not sure she’d want to et you and even if she did... I wouldn’t know how to facilitate a eting."
"Regardless, we have to try. I believe we could use her in solving the puzzle that might give us a chance to get Ashtyx."
"You’ve found Ashtyx?" Elena questioned in shock.
"Mn."
"Then..."
"I have no idea the chanics that resulted in the people of the Thebes’ current predicant and I wouldn’t know where to start. If it so happens that a chance arises, one that doesn’t detract from my goals, then I will surely help, else... it would be best to get comfortable with how things are now. Perhaps soday you would be able to free the Princess and the others from their ti in limbo."
"... I understand."
"I’m glad you do. Now then, can you help et her?"
Elena stayed silent for a mont, weighing her options before ultimately responding. "I’ll try, but..."
"Hmm?"
"Please don’t embarrass her again."
"I will try my best."
Letting out a sigh, Elena stretched her right hand and remarked. "Take my hand."
Alex calmly obliged after which she added. "I know we could teleport there but I thought it better to show you the fruits of my labor thus far."
"Go ahead."
Nodding in response, Elena took a deep breath and closed her eyes, unleashing her Power a mont later.
***
It felt like an elevator ride, albeit a short one.
There was turbulence but nothing too much for Alex to handle.
Expecting a derogatory comnt, Elena put her head down with her eyes closed but it never ca so she put her head up and opened her eyes to find Alex looking at her.
"So... what do you think?"
"And here I thought you already assud what I thought."
"That..."
"I didn’t make a mistake when I chose you to beco a part of Constellations," Alex remarked, cutting her off. "I choose people based on potential and you, Elena, carry lots of it."
"... I understand."
"Good. Now then, how do we et the princess?"
"Well, that..." Elena suddenly trailed off as her irises turned deep for a mont after which her expression beca impassive.
Sensing the abrupt shift in the air, Alex calmly intoned. "You rushed over quickly, and here I thought you’d play hard to contact."
"And why is that?" Elena replied, her tone having noticeably changed as well.
Alex shrugged. "Reasons."
"The past is the past, Lord Orion. Despite your rudeness, I see no reason to hold it against you considering that indeed I was expecting too much."
"I’m glad you are so open-minded," Alex comnted with a smirk causing Elena to roll her eyes at him.
"What brings you here?"
"Ca to see you."
"That much I can tell, so get to the point. Why are you here?"
"The last ti we spoke, I didn’t have the sense to ask this but now that I do, I’d like to know what happens whenever your doppelgangers are killed."
"Why?" Elena questioned.
"Aren’t you curious as to why the Supre Order would contract the Beastn to continuously hunt your doppelgangers down?"
"I already figured out the answer," Elena replied matter of factly.
"Oh, mind sharing?"
"Doppelgangers are an attempt by the Will of the World to exhaust the lifespan of I and my people drifting between dinsions. Our existence disrupts the natural order and so, it wishes for our quick deaths. Unfortunately, staying between dinsions makes it impossible for ti or space to have any effect on us."
"So what you’re saying is the hunt ensures that you and the rest of the people of Thebes are kept alive in limbo?"
Elena nodded. "Whoever leads the Supre Order knows exactly what happened in Thebes and our current state. However, I haven’t been able to figure out how this person knows, and more importantly, despite preserving us in limbo, why haven’t they done anything else?"
"Emperor Enoch." Alex suddenly remarked causing Elena’s expression to shift.
Raising a brow, he inquired. "Does that title an anything to your people?"
"... No, but for so reason it evoked a sense of familiarity the mont you ntioned it," Elena confessed with a thoughtful expression.
Alex pursed his lips, giving her a mont to regain her composure before he continued. "They are the primary reason the killings have been taking place. From one Emperor to the next, they all support the sa thing. I want to know why and I think you might be able to provide with so clues."
"I have no idea what you’re talking about."
"Give a minute to explain."
"I’m listening."
"How do you think the Supre Order found out about what happened in Thebes?... The family that founded the organization, the Augustus, were relatively unknown before their sudden rise to greatness years before the creation of the Empire. They refer to the person that made them what they are as the Traveler from the North."
Elena pursed her lips, taking a mont to take in Alex’s words before speaking up. "So you are saying the Traveler from the North might be referring to soone that managed to escape what happened to Thebes?"
"It’s far-reaching, I know, but is there any other explanation as to why they’d go so far to ensure your doppelgangers don’t live long?"
"... I will admit you do have a point. But, there’s a problem with your conjecture and that is that every single person in Thebes has been accounted for here in limbo."
"How can..."
"How can I be so sure?... I worked on the God particle for more than 10 years, Lord Orion. When you manage to establish a connection with an aspect of God for so long, things change."
Albeit disappointed, Alex didn’t expect much during his visit as he knew his argunt was fantastically porous.
"Hah, fine then, it was worth a shot." Alex sighed. "Thank you for your ti. Now could you free Elena?... We’ll be taking our leave now."
Elena stayed silent for a mont after which her deanor changed, the regal air about her disappearing as quickly as it appeared.
