It was nerve-wracking, to say the least.

Coupled with the unnatural chill that seed to perate the school hallways and his skin, Alex found himself ravaged by goosebumps.

What he was about to do... was a completely different field from what he was used to.

Sure, he had gone undercover as a lecturer that one ti and even served as a substitute instructor for the police academy that other ti but this was completely different.

He didn’t dare say he knew much about mysticism.

If he were to be honest, Alex was admittedly only familiar with a ager 15-20% of the supernatural that persisted in Eventide.

With such a lack of understanding, how was he to teach others?... And considering he was the head of the departnt, he also had to lead the other professors effectively as well.

Letting out a sigh, Alex tugged at the collar of the black coat he wore.

Considering this was officially his first day, he wished to make a good impression on the students and also not give off on the first day that there was sothing wrong with him.

So he’d taken extra care with how he carried himself, maintaining an aloof deanor as he passed by a group of students who curtly greeted him before going on their way.

"Is that the new Head of Departnt for the Finalists?"

"I think so. That’s Mr. Fitzgerald, right?"

"Yeah, I heard he was a substitute PE instructor before he got his new position."

"That’s crazy. How did he skip so many positions?"

"Most say he carried out an undercover mission for the Crown so now this is his reward for that."

Ignoring the chatter of the students, Alex soon arrived at Class 5-A and taking a deep breath, reached out and grabbed the doorknob before pushing it open and then stepping in.

***

Alice was left perplexed and visibly confused.

Professor Albus had been fired?... Just like that?... And instead of a competent replacent, they brought in Lucius Fitzgerald?... That wimp cared more for his life than anything else.

Alice had taken a few classes with him and one thing was obvious across all the classes; Lucius always avoided anything that would cause harm to him which was saying sothing considering his class was ant to be physical, out in the open and the possibility of getting hurt was high.

She was infinitely disappointed and had always wondered how such an incompetent man got to his position, now he was doing it again?

Getting into a position he no doubt did NOT deserve.

Alice swore to tender a complaint letter to the school board if it turned out to be so.

Just then, the door to the classroom was pushed open causing the chatter to die down as everyone shifted their attention over with the man she wished not to see entering.

Inwardly seething, Alice was imdiately cursing out Lucius for what would surely be a waste of their first day.

Lucius scanned everyone present, his expression impassive as he did this, only stopping after he had scrutinized the last person.

Then he walked, each step taken with a certain air that seed unusually refined.

On getting to his place on the podium, he set down his briefcase and turned to face the class, his hands in his pocket as he once again regarded the class.

For so reason, everyone seed to grow tense as his penetrating eyes washed over them.

Then he began.

"Good day future leaders of our illustrious empire, it is my honor to be with you today in the great position of Head of Departnt. My na is Lucius Fitzgerald and I’m sure so of you know .

"In any case, for this year, I shall be leading you all down the esoteric path hidden from the mortal world otherwise known as mysticism. So I beg you all, lend your ears and give a chance to prove myself. I’m sure so of you are wondering how I am qualified to stand in this place and even speak with you. Would you like to know the truth?"

None spoke but the curiosity was barely hidden.

"To be honest, I have no idea how I got here."

His admission garnered laughter from a few, mostly the boys, while the girls especially those like Alice only fud further at having their ti wasted.

It was understandable, this was the final step in their path to serving the empire in great positions yet now they had to hope that they’d even learn anything.

Of course, Lucius was unperturbed as he continued. "Now, before I start, I believe it’s customary to have introductions so we can be familiar with one another. So then, who would like to go first?"

***

By the ti introductions were over, Alex found himself exposed to the dreams of the younger generation of the empire.

So wished to join the Imperial parliant, which unlike the one in BoneHaven, held democratic power over the entire empire, only second to the Crown.

Others wished to beco explorers or adventurers with so intent on taking over their family company and others desiring to join the Parliantary army headed by the Imperial Parliant.

However, throughout all this, Alex couldn’t help but notice a rather interesting anomaly with the answers given.

None had said anything about going to the capital or serving the Crown.

He didn’t know why but he felt that the reason behind that would be significant.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have much from Lucius to make a calculated guess concerning the matter.

Regardless, it was ti for the lecture to officially begin, and judging from the looks sent his way, this was the deciding mont.

So, channeling whatever experience he had in teaching since he couldn’t exactly utilize Lucius’s talent in teaching as it was non-existent, Alex stepped forward, his hand still in his pocket, and then, he remarked.

"Now, who can tell what mysticism ans or rather, what does it symbolize in our world?"
