Ling Ning stood frozen in place, staring blankly. How had things escalated to this point? What could she possibly say to clear her na now? What if her daughter truly believed she was a weirdo?
“Ye Ye~ Mom’s heading out to buy groceries. What flavor of ice cream do you want?” Ling Ning asked sweetly, standing next to her daughter with a forced smile.
“Strawberry.”
“And the chips—sa brand as last ti?”
“Yeah.”
“Anything else you’d like? What about lunch? How about sweet and sour pork ribs—your favorite?”
Ling Ye frowned slightly. “Mom, you’re so naggy. If you don’t leave soon, I’ll miss lunch, and then I’ll be even angrier~”
“Bye, Ye Ye! Mom will be back soon!”
Without another word, Ling Ning dashed out the door, her speed startling the neighbor she encountered, Xia You. If they didn’t live on the 14th floor, Ling Ning might have taken the stairs.
“L-Ling Ning, where are you rushing off to?”
Xia You asked, baffled. She was used to seeing Ling Ning act calm and composed, so this sudden burst of energy was startling. Had sothing urgent happened?
“Oh, nothing. I’m just heading out to buy so groceries!”
“You know it’s not even 10 o’clock yet, right? No need to rush~”
“Huh?”
Hearing this, Ling Ning paused and checked her phone. Realizing it was indeed early, she sighed in relief. There was no need to panic after all.
Xia You then noticed Ling Ning’s new hairstyle and smiled. “By the way, your new hairstyle looks great!”
“Thanks! I think so too!” Ling Ning replied unabashedly, accepting the complint with a grin.
“Out so early, Xia You? Grabbing breakfast?”
Xia You shook her head lightly. “No, I have plans today. I’ll probably be out until the evening.”
“Oh~” Ling Ning nodded thoughtfully but didn’t press for details. If Xia You wanted to share, she’d do so.
“It’s just a etup with so online creators. They’ve invited several tis, and it’d feel rude to refuse again—especially since it’s an all-girls gathering,” Xia You explained.
“That sounds great! Xia You’s becoming more outgoing!”
Ling Ning couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional, almost like a parent watching their child grow up.
"This is all because of you, Ling Ning~"
Xia You looked tenderly at Ling Ning and said in a voice only she could hear. If it weren't for eting Ling Ning, she would never have agreed to attend offline gatherings like this, no matter what.
Thinking about how she had changed since eting Ling Ning, compared to how she used to be, she really had changed a lot. But... this change wasn't bad at all.
As they walked out of the residential complex, Ling Ning waved to Xia You and said: "Have fun, I'm off to buy groceries."

Ling Ning’s cheerful voice filled the apartnt as she walked in. She placed a box of strawberry ice cream next to Ling Ye, who was imrsed in a video ga.
After putting away the groceries, she returned to the living room and noticed the ice cream was still untouched. “Ye Ye, don’t you want so ice cream?” she asked.
“Ah~” Ling Ye opened her mouth, her intent clear.
Ling Ning chuckled helplessly, scooping a spoonful of ice cream and feeding it to her daughter.
As the sweet taste filled her mouth, Ling Ye felt utterly content. Playing gas with her mom feeding her ice cream was the epito of luxury.
“Mom, you should have so too!”
“I’ll pass. It’s that ti of the month soon, so I shouldn’t.”
Ling Ning replied, her expression one of exaggerated despair.
She wanted the ice cream, of course. After running errands in the scorching heat, who wouldn’t crave sothing cold? But she couldn’t have it now, and the thought made her miserable.
Ling Ye blinked, then nodded in understanding. At least she was still too young to deal with such problems. If she couldn’t eat ice cream, it would’ve been a cruel fate.
Before long, Ling Ye had polished off the ice cream. Watching her daughter’s satisfied expression, Ling Ning reached out to ruffle her hair gently. “I’m heading to the kitchen to cook. You’ve been sitting too long—go stretch your legs.”
“Okay~”
Although Ling Ye had no desire to get up, she knew her mom’s nagging would be relentless if she didn’t.
She slipped on her shoes by the door and called out, “Mom, I’m going downstairs for a walk!”
“Alright. Be back by lunchti!”
“Got it~”
