Why did you give birth to ?

The words of George Stephens made Charlotte Smith’s eyes well up with a layer of moist mist in an instant.

The small child was standing a ter away from her, yet it was as if he stood at the edge of an abyss, needing only a step forward to fall into eternal damnation.

Charlotte felt a panic in her heart.

The light was absent from George Stephens’ eyes, dark and deep, inherited from Robert Stephens’ gaze, as calm as a black hole that could devour everything.

Why did she give birth to him?

Charlotte tried to recall her feelings on the day she made that choice.

She couldn’t really rember it clearly, after all, it had been almost ten years. But the days with George Stephens were warr day by day.

Those dark and cold years had softened sowhat because of his arrival.

If she could go back to the past, she would still make the sa choice.

She was selfish because she knew, without George Stephens, she wouldn’t have survived these past nearly ten years.

He was never a mistake she made; he was her life.

"Because mommy needs you," Charlotte whispered.

George Stephens’ pitch-black eyes flickered, and he lifted his head to look at the woman not far away.

Seeing her made him feel that the small heart in his chest ached terribly.

It was a bit sour, a bit tight, and also a bit painful.

He lowered his head and used his cold little hand to rub the spot on his chest, his childlike voice clear yet hoarse: "You’re lying—"

"You are mommy’s treasure." Charlotte’s voice lowered even more, and for a mont she struggled to describe her love for him. She hesitated for a while, and her eyes reddened further, "Mommy really never ant to lie to you—"

"But they said you gave birth to just to be with him." George Stephens pursed his lips, his delicate, pale little face looking sowhat stubborn, "They all said you liked him, and to split up Daisy Ginger and him, you gave birth to . And you did succeed."

In the Stephens family estate, when his identity was revealed, even if he didn’t listen to anything, rumors still reached his ears.

He was Charlotte’s disguise to break up Edward and Daisy, and she gave birth to him just to be with Edward, and he was a child unloved by anyone.

"You don’t really like ." George Stephens’ small voice couldn’t help but choke up. He was still too young and couldn’t keep up the indifferent deanor. He felt wronged and complained in a low voice to Charlotte, "You knew why that person hated , but didn’t tell he wasn’t my dad. You just did it for yourself. How could you be so selfish!"

Charlotte’s tears were about to fall.

She shook her head and denied it, "It’s not true."

"George, mommy couldn’t tell you. If mommy had told you, she wouldn’t even have had the chance to give birth to you... Mommy has wronged many people, and also you, but mommy truly loves you. Please don’t hate mommy, okay?"

Seeing her cry, George Stephens couldn’t help but shed tears as well. He raised his hand and stubbornly wiped his tears away, asking Charlotte, "Why didn’t you tell the teacher is my dad? If, if you had said so earlier, I wouldn’t have made him angry all the ti..."

"..." Charlotte was silent for a while. She didn’t know when George Stephens would understand that the person who left him alone in the Stephens family was his most beloved teacher.

She hoped he would never understand.

Robert Stephens might have loved him, but ultimately, his dearest person was still his brother.

Even George Stephens didn’t receive a bit of his favor.

George Stephens lowered his head and cried quietly for a while. Charlotte’s vague words still comforted his small heart significantly.

He always felt abandoned by the whole world, but if Charlotte said she liked him, then wouldn’t he be not entirely alone?

Charlotte walked over and gently squatted in front of him.

George Stephens lifted his head, his eyes red as he looked at her.

"George, are you still planning to go to London?"

George Stephens pursed his lips, "I am going."

This place was no longer where he could stay.

Charlotte nodded, reached out her hand, and gently wiped the soft corner of the child’s eye, her voice soft, "Mommy used to always urge you to study, not because mommy was too strict, but because mommy was afraid that one day, when you grew up, the world would no longer have a place for George."

"Mommy hopes George can beco excellent in the future. Mommy... is not a very useful person, and the greatest pride in her life is giving birth to George."

George’s eyes welled up with a layer of moisture. He pressed his lips tightly together, and his little face looked a bit stubborn, on the verge of tears.

He was still too young to understand many things, but her voice sounded very gentle, just as in his mory. Those who used to spoil him unconditionally had all changed. Even Lady Stephens had changed. Only the woman in front of him remained gentle.

He was too afraid of change.

He didn’t understand why all of a sudden, life turned this way, adults like monsters lurking in the dark, casting sinister glances at him, and he sensed danger.

The instinct for survival made him attempt to escape.

"Mommy."

George moved his lips and called out this na with so grievance. For so reason, once he uttered these words, he couldn’t help but want to cry.

He said, "They all don’t love anymore."

"Mommy loves you." Charlotte reached out and tightly embraced his small, thin body, "Mommy loves George the most."

"Can’t mommy co with ?"

Charlotte’s body stiffened for a mont. She released him, slowly lifted her head to look at him, and then gently shook her head, her eyes reddening.

George: "Aren’t I your favorite? Are you lying to again?"

He had finally mustered the courage, hoping that Charlotte could go to London with him, but to his surprise, she declined.

He was suddenly heartbroken.

"Mommy can no longer live with George." Charlotte murmured softly, almost in tears, "George... if you’re willing, then develop well in London. Mommy will be very happy just to see you from afar."

George, with red eyes, angry and aggrieved, struggled to break free from her embrace: "You’re lying again!"

Charlotte held him tightly and called his na softly, "George, George..."

Her voice sounded so sorrowful, George gradually quieted down in her arms. He felt warm liquid dripping on his neck, leaving him at a loss.

"Mommy committed an unforgivable mistake... this is his punishnt for us mother and son."

"Who is he?"

Charlotte shook her head and kissed the child’s warm cheek, "That person is no longer here."

That man was no longer there.

But his hatred remained.

He wanted her to rember his existence for a lifeti, to live her life in his hatred.
