Edward Stephens just drove back, returning late at night.
After Daisy Ginger coaxed Erin Ginger to sleep, she stayed awake and quickly went downstairs when she heard the door open.
The night wind was chilly, and the man, draped in a black coat, returned to the hall with the help of his assistant.
Seeing her co down from upstairs, he seed a little surprised, raising his eyebrows slightly.
Daisy walked up, took the coat hanging on his arm, and asked, "Have you eaten?"
"Had a little wine."
He carried a faint sll of wine.
"I’ll ask soone to make you a bowl of noodles."
The man agreed with a hum.
Daisy briefed the kitchen to make Edward so noodles quickly. When she returned, she saw him sitting on the sofa, his tall and lean form, and his handso face showing traces of fatigue.
Daisy climbed onto the sofa, lifted her hand and gently massaged his temples, "What did you guys talk about today?"
"So trivial matters."
"Like what?"
"Wanted to bail him out."
Is this "trivial" "little matters"?
"What did you say?"
"Don’t even think about it."
Daisy chuckled, it wasn’t hard to imagine Edward sitting at the desk with a cold and expressionless look, casting a veto.
To be honest, his unsmiling deanor was indeed quite intimidating.
Daisy said, "Acting like this, will the elders agree?"
No matter what, Robert Stephens was once the Family Head of the Stephens family, and sending the head of the family to prison, would the Stephens accept it?
"They have to agree even if they disagree." The man reached out, pulling her into his arms and resting his chin on her shoulder, frowning, "...That’s why I didn’t bother to co back. It’s annoying."
He was referring to the elders pleading for Robert.
Daisy stroked his hair gently and said softly, "Then let’s skip those etings from now on?"
After Robert’s trial ends, they would return to Banyan City.
"Yeah." The man opened his eyes and gave her a light kiss on the lips, "I’m so tired."
Daisy felt a wave of tenderness, hugging his neck as she comforted him, "Then let’s have dinner early and go upstairs to rest."
"Okay."
So obedient.
She ruffled his hair again, sensing that he hugged her a little tighter, as if holding her could give him strength.
She felt happy to be able to have this effect.
After eating noodles with Edward and taking a shower, the two of them laid down on the bed.
Daisy turned to face him.
"Edward."
"Hmm."
"Are you really okay with going back to Banyan City with ?"
"Why wouldn’t I be?" he asked lightly.
"Really okay?"
The man opened his eyes, his dark eyes gazing at her.
After a while, he pulled her into his embrace, roughly ruffling her hair, holding her tightly, "If I say it’s okay, then it’s okay. Don’t overthink."
"My brother, all these years, because of his ruthless thods, has already pressured the other families until they couldn’t bear it anymore. If it continues like this, the Stephens family will eventually face governnt sanctions."
"Letting Ryan Smith take over is also a signal to the families we’ve worked with all these years. The Stephens family has changed; we can continue to cooperate and still benefit."
Daisy looked at him and said softly, "The most important thing is, you trust Ryan, right?"
Edward was silent for a mont before he spoke, "He betrayed once before."
Daisy was taken aback.
"He was my best friend. Actually... it wasn’t his fault back then, it was my inability to protect him. Like with you, I’ve hurt many people before..." he sighed lightly, "he always regretted it, and I told him there’s no need to care anymore. But as you know, breaking trust is easy, rebuilding it is difficult."
"I want him to understand through this that I truly forgave him."
