So impressive?
Daisy clicked her tongue softly.
No wonder it’s so grand, they’ve invited the entire Shelton family over.
With ten minutes left, Daisy had nothing to do, so she sat on a dining chair, chatting idly with Christopher while snacking on sunflower seeds.
Christopher used to be a special forces soldier, a serious type. Daisy would speak ten sentences, and he’d only reply once, if at all. After seven or eight minutes, footsteps and Elder Shelton’s voice were heard from outside the door.
The esteed guest must have arrived.
Daisy swept the sunflower seed shells into the trash, sat up straight, and put on a flawless professional smile; Christopher, sitting next to her, was astonished by her quick transformation—it was as though he had never seen soone change expressions faster than flipping a book.
It wasn’t until Elder Shelton reached the doorway that Christopher got up to greet him.
"...Young Mr. Stephens is a talented youth with a promising future."
Elder Shelton’s voice ca from the door as Daisy looked up, seeing Elder Shelton in a Tang suit with a cane and a well-dressed man standing beside him.
Upon hearing the words "Young Mr. Stephens," Daisy had a sense of foreboding, but seeing Edward Stephens in person still shocked her, making her stand up involuntarily.
It was Daisy’s first ti seeing Elder Shelton so amiable. Dignified as a senior, he walked in with Christopher, introducing Edward: "This is my granddaughter-in-law, Daisy, she’s in the film industry. If Young Mr. Stephens has any advertising collaborations, feel free to contact her."
Edward responded coolly, looking up at Daisy, who seed a bit stunned and dazed, with a cold gaze and a voice just as indifferent: "We’ve already t."
Elder Shelton laughed heartily, unfazed, inviting Edward to sit down, then said to Daisy, "Daisy, aren’t you going to offer a toast to Young Mr. Stephens? If it weren’t for his magnanimity, your company’s artist would still be in the detention center!"
Unexpectedly, Elder Shelton invited Edward Stephens as well, recalling their last unpleasant eting made Daisy a bit anxious.
She glanced at Edward, seated next to Elder Shelton. Not sparing her a look, his aura was exceptionally cold, impeccably dressed, and under the lights, his exquisite features appeared as pristine and unyielding as unlted ice and snow, intimidating those who gazed upon them.
Daisy was sowhat afraid of him.
Four years ago, with nothing to her na, she feared nothing, using any ans to achieve her goals. But four years later, she had little Erin.
She feared Edward’s presence would shatter her current peaceful life.
Studying his cold and abstinent deanor, Daisy cautiously stood up, walked over, poured a glass of red wine for Edward, and another for herself. She cleared her throat lightly, "Mr. Stephens, thank you for being lenient. I, Daisy, toast this to you."
The man’s expression remained indifferent, without a trace of emotion. Daisy braced herself and drank the wine in one gulp, finally sighing in relief and quickly slipping back into her seat.
anwhile, Elder Shelton began discussing the Banyan City underwater tunnel with Edward. Daisy kept her head down, hastily texting Jas Shelton.
"Where are you?!"
"Right at the entrance! Little Erin and I are almost there!"
Daisy’s head throbbed. Although she thought Erin resembled her more, Edward was sitting right here; who’s to say he wouldn’t spot sothing with his keen eye!
"Don’t co in! Send Erin ho! Bringing a three-year-old to a banquet is unheard of!"
"..." Jas felt a bit wronged. Is your three-year-old an ordinary child? Does an average three-year-old host art exhibitions?
Daisy pleaded earnestly, "There’s a distinguished guest today, you..."
Before Daisy could finish typing, Elder Shelton’s voice ca through, "Jas, why are you standing at the door? Co in quickly."
Raising her head, Daisy saw the private room door open by Christopher, revealing a large and small silhouette at the entrance.
!!!!
Was this the entrance to the restaurant’s private room?!
Edward turned slowly, his gaze landing on Jas and little Erin.
Erin’s face was sared with paint.
He had just gotten back from painting outdoors and hadn’t had the ti to wash up. His small, rosy cheeks were a patchwork of colors, his clothes similarly filthy. Seeing Daisy, he imdiately ran away from Jas’s side, spreading his arms to have Daisy carry him.
Daisy hurriedly embraced Erin, heart pounding, while Jas awkwardly lingered at the door. Noticing the strangers in the room, he seed a bit nervous until Daisy glared at him, prompting him to sit beside her.
Elder Shelton introduced with a smile, "This is my grandson, Jas, and..."
Edward interrupted him impassively as if he had no interest in Jas or Erin, "Let’s continue discussing the underwater tunnel."
Experienced and well-versed, Elder Shelton was naturally not offended by Edward’s small lack of courtesy.
The construction of the Tsing City underwater tunnel was the Stephens Consortium’s biggest investnt in recent years. With a twenty billion investnt from the Stephens Consortium, the success of this project was almost guaranteed.
He soon engaged Edward in a detailed discussion on the investnt. Seeing Edward’s non-reaction to Erin, Daisy finally felt relieved but then chuckled wryly—for only soone with sothing to hide would fear Edward seeing Erin and recognizing sothing. In reality, nobody in the world, just from seeing a kid who resembled them slightly on the street, would assu it was their child—that would be too narcissistic!
Seated next to her, Jas was eating and drinking, whispering to Daisy, "Who is that guy? He’s quite good-looking."
Holding Erin and feeding him a drink, Daisy didn’t bother wiping the paint from his face. Hearing Jas’s question, she asked nonchalantly, "What do you think of that guy?"
Jas was baffled.
"What do you an? You got a crush on him or sothing? No way, I’m not bad-looking either, why not fancy , I’m quite decent too..."
"Shut up." Daisy couldn’t help rolling her eyes, snapping at him.
Talking to this blockhead is exhausting.
Jas felt even more wronged, pouting, "You always scold ..."
Amidst his grievance, Jas suddenly shivered, instinctively looking at the man opposite him, only to find that man staring right at him.
The man’s gaze was frightening, chilling Jas to the bone with a re glance. Just as Jas anxiously pondered how he might have offended the man, the man casually withdrew his gaze, as if he had just looked at Jas incidentally.
After calming his pounding heart, Jas put on the plastic gloves Daisy handed him and began peeling shrimp for Daisy and Erin.
Erin inherited Daisy’s genes and, like her, enjoyed seafood very much.
But as he peeled, Jas again felt that icy chill piercing from across the room, this ti carrying a slight hint of nace.
