Chapter 308: Chapter 308: She Can’t Afford to Play
Lady Yan asked, “Where to?”
Yunlie said, “We’re going to the Mu Family on Saturday to have a custom evening gown made for you.”
“I have evening gowns.”
“You need a new one.”
“Then I can just buy a new one myself.”
“It has to be haute couture.”
Lady Yan furrowed her brows, “It’s just a birthday party; does it have to be that fancy?”
“In front of the Mu Family, it does,” Yunlie said. “If you find it troubleso, you don’t have to go.”
“I want to go. I can take this opportunity to et the bigwigs of the business world. Why would I pass up such a good chance?”
“Then do as I say.”
“Tomorrow is Sunday; there’s less than a week left. Isn’t it too late to order a custom dress now?”
“My little aunt recomnded a store that can produce ready-to-wear in a few days.”
“I thought you didn’t care about the Mu Family. Why do you care so much?”
Lady Yan observed Yunlie’s expression.
Whenever the Mu Family was ntioned, his face would turn very gloomy.
He looked up at her, his eyes softening slightly.
“I don’t care, but I don’t want you to be looked down upon. The people of the Mu Family are very conceited. Since it’s your first visit and you’ll be dealing with those status-conscious people in the business circle, naturally, you can’t show any weakness.”
Lady Yan nodded, “So you’re worried I might embarrass you?”
Yunlie’s brows furrowed slightly, “You, woman…”
Lady Yan chuckled playfully, “Just kidding.”
She knew Yunlie was worried about her being mistreated, which is why he was being so considerate.
But she understood those people in the business world; they were keen to judge a person by their attire, each one more hypocritical than the last.
That’s why she never liked to mingle in circles of socialites.
However, now that she had taken over Yan’s, she beca a businessperson and couldn’t avoid dealing with those in the business world.
Of course, the primary purpose of visiting the Mu Family was to look for clues and understand what relationship there really was between the Mu Family and her mother.
Lady Yan asked, “Can we go tomorrow afternoon then? I want to sleep in tomorrow morning.”
The day after tomorrow was Monday, and she had to get busy again.
After the afternoon classes, a few mbers of the Special Departnt who were competing had to stay behind for training to prepare for the Military Academy intermingle competition taking place in a month.
Yunlie said, “I have sothing to do tomorrow afternoon; I only have a bit of ti in the morning.”
“Oh, alright then.” Lady Yan pouted a bit, disappointingly spooning up her soup.
Yunlie watched her and smiled.
Sotis he felt she was so mature and sensible that she didn’t seem like a twenty-year-old girl at all.
Yet at other tis, she truly did seem like a little aunt who had never grown up.
“If you really want to sleep in tomorrow, then I can rearrange my schedule. You don’t have to go to bed early tonight, and you can play a little later before sleeping,” Yunlie smiled.
Seeing the ambiguous smile in his eyes, Lady Yan imdiately understood what he ant by ‘playing a little later’.
She quickly said, “No, no, no, I won’t sleep in. Early to bed and early to rise makes a body healthy and wise!”
She couldn’t afford to ‘play’ now!
The next morning, after breakfast, Yunlie took Lady Yan to an upscale custom tailoring shop.
This shop had only opened in the last two years, but with its quick turnaround tis for custom-made gowns and tasteful designers, it had beco a favorite amongst the wealthy people of Capital Star.
Early in the morning, the shop was already bustling with people.
Due to the outstanding appearance of the couple, the staff and other custors were all covertly sizing them up.
A female clerk took them around to view the sample garnts hanging on the first floor.
“All of these designs can be exclusively customized, ensuring no outfit collisions. If Lady Yan doesn’t fancy any of them, we can also design one specifically for you. However, bespoke design might take more than a week to turn into a finished garnt, as our designers need ti to conceive and create.”
Yan Qianyi said, “I’ll choose from the existing styles.”
The clerk nodded, “We can also make so design modifications and adjustnts according to your preferences and requirents.”
At this mont, soone recognized that Yan Qianyi was the newly appointed helmsman of Yan’s.
Whispers of discussion reached their ears.
“See that? That’s Shu ng’s daughter, very impressive. So young, yet she’s already in charge of Yan’s, and still a student at the Federation Military Academy.”
“Tsk tsk, quite remarkable.”
“Who’s the man with her? So handso. Is he from the entertainnt industry?”
“I don’t know, never seen him before, but they really are a match of talent and beauty, such a treat for the eyes.”
“Being handso isn’t everything; he could just be a kept man.”
Hearing this, Yan Qianyi frowned and let go of Mu Yunlie’s hand, wanting to confront that person.
But Mu Yunlie held her back, “There’s no need to pay attention to them.”
Yan Qianyi was sowhat angry; her husband was obviously so outstanding.
To be honest, she felt she was marrying above her station with Mu Yunlie.
He was a legitimate soldier, a hero contributing to the country!
Not to ntion his ties to the wealthy Mu Family, just the status of his grandfather, Nangong Jie, was enough to make these rich ladies pay their respects.
Seeing Yan Qianyi looking indignant, Mu Yunlie smiled, “Aren’t you always one to disregard what others think?”
“It’s one thing when they talk about . I couldn’t care less. But I won’t tolerate others speaking ill of you.”
Mu Yunlie smiled gently.
With such a protective little wife by his side, all those harsh words seed to take on a different flavor as they reached his ears.
The female clerk, watching the smile on Mu Yunlie’s face and then looking at Yan Qianyi, was nearly green with envy.
Since he walked in, she hadn’t seen him smile.
But when he looked at the girl beside him, that tenderness and affection in his eyes, along with that faint smile, was enough to lt soone.
Working in this store, she’d seen too many scumbags.
One day they’d bring one companion to order a ceremonial dress, the next day another.
She hadn’t co across soone as handso, gentle, and devoted as the gentleman before her.
“I’ll try this one,” Yan Qianyi said, pointing to a black evening dress.
The clerk’s infatuated gaze still lingered on Mu Yunlie, her eyes unfocused as if her soul had flown away.
“Cough cough!” Yan Qianyi cleared her throat.
The clerk snapped back to reality, quickly diverted her gaze, and blushed with embarrassnt, “Sorry, miss, what did you say just now?”
Yan Qianyi smiled, “It’s okay, can I try on this black one?”
Mu Yunlie was like a soul-snatching demon, flaunting his striking beauty around, always bound to snatch so souls away, and she had grown accustod to it.
Fortunately, Mu Yunlie’s eyes were always only on her, otherwise, she’d be full of jealousy every day.
“Of course, the sample is one size, it may not fit you perfectly, but you can get a rough idea of how it feels.”
The clerk, wearing white gloves, took down the sample garnt, bowed slightly, and made a welcoming gesture, “The fitting rooms are this way, please follow .”
Arriving outside the fitting rooms, Mu Yunlie sat down on a sofa in the resting area to wait.
Yan Qianyi followed the clerk towards the fitting room.
Suddenly, a dignified and elegant middle-aged woman charged over, raising her hand to slap Yan Qianyi.
