i Ling froze the mont Yu Miao teased her, quickly letting go of her shoulders and shaking her head like a rattle drum.
"Wha-Wha-What? Of course not!" she stamred, her face flushing a rosy red as she tried to deny Yu Miao’s accusation. Yet, the embarrassnt written across her face clearly told another story.
Yu Miao, watching her reaction, was montarily stunned. She hadn’t expected i Ling to respond so strongly after such a brief interaction with Lin Feng.
Has this girl been tricked?
A flicker of suspicion crossed Yu Miao’s mind, but as she recalled her first encounter with Lin Feng, the thought faded. He didn’t seem like the type to charm girls effortlessly—especially since he had arrived with the young miss.
I doubt their relationship is anything simple...
Yu Miao sighed inwardly, a trace of pity surfacing in her heart. i Ling’s feelings were genuine, but the person she was up against was none other than the most outstanding lady in all of Silverpine City. The difference between them was like heaven and earth.
And yet... seeing i Ling’s earnest expression softened Yu Miao’s heart. I should at least do sothing to help her out.
"Alright, we can activate the formation—but make sure Lin Feng knows it was you who turned it on for him. Otherwise, this would all be pointless." Yu Miao flicked her finger against i Ling’s forehead.
"Ow! Elder Sister, that hurts!" i Ling whined, clutching her forehead. Her tone was light, but her lack of spiritual resistance made the flick more painful than it should have been.
Yu Miao shook her head. Despite having a perfectly intact Heaven’s Pact, i Ling either lacked the ambition to pursue cultivation or believed her talent wasn’t enough to rise in the world. As a result, her cultivation progress was pitifully slow.
Suddenly, Yu Miao raised her right hand, and a wave of powerful spiritual energy swept through the room. The air grew dense and heavy, as if the entire space bowed beneath her might. It was no surprise—Yu Miao, as the chief steward who had cared for Chen i since childhood, was a formidable cultivator in her own right as her cultivation base was already at the 12th level of Qi Condensation.
"All right, I’ll turn it on for you right now. Why don’t you hurry on over to that troublemaker Lin Feng and tell him what’s about to happen?" Yu Miao said, her hands already moving through the air in a series of intricate gestures as if deciphering so unseen puzzle.
i Ling’s irritation from the forehead flick vanished instantly. A bright smile spread across her face as she bowed respectfully. "Thank you, Elder Sister Yu Miao!"
Without wasting another second, she turned and slipped out of the office, her light footsteps echoing softly through the dimly lit hallways.
Yu Miao watched the door swing shut behind her, shaking her head with an indulgent smile. "Ah... young love truly is sothing special," she murmured to herself, a rare trace of warmth in her voice.
Although it felt like only monts had passed, the sun had long since dipped below the horizon. Hours had slipped away since Lin Feng began his relentless training. The estate’s night was illuminated by the soft glow of spirit lamps—intricately crafted orbs brimming with spiritual energy, casting an impeccable, artificial light that allowed the grounds to remain bright even in the dead of night.
Sweat poured down Lin Feng’s face, clinging to his skin like dew on grass. His robes, once crisp and clean after his bath, were now soaked through and heavy. His knuckles were raw, faint traces of blood marking the edges of his fists. Frustration simred in his eyes as he glared at the shattered remains of his training target.
"Damn it... I just took a bath. Why the hell did I decide to do this now?" Feng muttered, shaking his head in irritation.
The first massive tree he had used as a training dummy had long since collapsed under his relentless barrage. This was already the third one he had reduced to a crumbling, splintered ss.
And still, the feeling he was chasing remained just out of reach.
"Young Master Lin Feng, why don’t you drink so water before continuing? You look exhausted," a soft, cheerful voice called out from behind.
Turning around, Lin Feng saw a young girl smiling at him. Her short black hair frad her delicate face, accentuating her bright, expressive eyes. There was a warmth in her gaze, and her lively appearance, combined with her sweet smile, seed to lift the fatigue weighing on him.
Am I being tempted right now?
For a brief mont, Lin Feng found himself dazed by i Ling’s beauty. Shaking the thought from his mind, he smiled and said, "Alright, I think I deserve a bit of a break."
He walked over and sat down beside i Ling on the balcony, accepting the cup of water she offered. Taking a long drink, the cool liquid eased the dryness in his throat, and he smiled in gratitude.
"Thank you, i Ling," Lin Feng said as he placed the cup down, his gaze drifting to the courtyard bathed in the golden glow of the estate’s spirit lamps.
At this point, it’s worth recapping what happened right before i Ling joined Lin Feng during his training.
A few hours earlier, Lin Feng had already been struggling with frustration. Despite his efforts, his progress on the new technique remained stagnant. Though his previous injuries had fully healed, a lingering strain still affected his movents, making his training even more difficult.
Just as he was about to give up for the day and try again tomorrow, a knock echoed through his room.
"Young Master Lin Feng, it’s , i Ling. I have to tell you sothing," a soft voice called from outside.
Lin Feng paused mid-strike, a flicker of curiosity crossing his mind.
i Ling? What is she doing here? I don’t think I rang the bell, did I?
Despite his confusion, he lowered his hand and approached the door. When he opened it, there stood i Ling, offering him a shy smile.
"Young Master, is it okay if I co in?" she asked, her voice soft but clear.
Lin Feng, already feeling defeated by his lack of progress, figured a brief distraction wouldn’t hurt. After all, it wasn’t like he was making any breakthroughs.
It’s not like she’ll affect my training anyway—I’ve done basically nothing.
With that thought, he smiled faintly and stepped aside, allowing i Ling to enter. She moved gracefully into the room, her eyes curiously scanning the surroundings before settling into a seat.
