Ch.20 Don’t even think about tempting

As a girl who grew up in the Lower District since childhood, Anya is extrely proficient in the art of ‘looting corpses’.

Gang fights in the Lower District are extrely common, especially in the western city area where Anya grew up—people were constantly becoming the flesh-and-blood nourishnt for Opalia, the White-Gold City.

Thus, the young Anya beca an outstanding ‘Master Corpse-Looter’ through accumulated ‘practice’.

Watching the girl’s nimble movents, Luo Nan couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

Although this girl isn’t the brightest, to survive growing up in the Lower District, besides her ‘Chosen One’ title, she’s definitely mastered all the necessary minor skills.

“Hmm… how co these guys’ pockets are emptier than their faces? Even their clothes are the cheapest linen.”

Anya stood up, disdainfully shaking her hands.

“Indeed, they’re fanatics—perhaps they’ve long since offered all their worldly possessions to their Lord?”

Luo Nan thought to himself—it was no surprise. Since they dared to lie in wait here, they certainly wouldn’t leave behind important clues.

“But when I told you to loot corpses, you only looted the corpses? Didn’t you see where those other four guys ca from?”

“Huh? Oh, I—I know, no need to tell !”

The previously sowhat disinterested girl instantly perked up at Luo Nan’s reminder. Her beautiful golden eyes naturally turned toward the wide-open cellar entrance.

“Hehe, maybe there’s hidden gold and treasure down there…”

Anya rubbed her hands together, ready to scramble down into the cellar first, but then seed to rember sothing and turned to ask Luo Nan:

“Let’s settle this first—if there are spoils down there, how do we split them?”

Anya felt it necessary to establish an agreent with Luo Nan upfront to prevent potential ‘unequal distribution’ conflicts later.

In the Lower District, she’d seen plenty of cases where disputes over spoils led to broken friendships and bitter enmity.

“…”

Does she really think he’d fight her over such petty amounts? After all, during the battle, the enemy had personally admitted that just one casually pulled-out Purifying Light crystal was enough to cover their entire cult’s annual operating expenses.

Luo Nan looked sowhat speechlessly at the serious-faced girl and said, “I don’t need ordinary valuables, but information and special items related to their faith are mine.”

Fearing Anya might disagree, Luo Nan added, “If the value of the special items exceeds half the total value, I’ll compensate you for the difference in cash.”

“Deal.”

Anya clapped her fist into her palm and, before Luo Nan could react, ‘clattered’ down into the cellar.

“This girl…”

“Ah—what’s going on? Are these guys really this poor?”

Anya, frustrated, felt utterly hopeless. No matter how thoroughly she searched every jar and pot in the cellar that could possibly hide things, she didn’t find a single silver Sool.

Not even a single copper Tess!

But Luo Nan paid no mind to the girl’s lantations. He walked to the makeshift altar in the center of the cellar and carefully examined the statue enshrined atop it.

“So this is the Abyssal Lord ‘Nature,’ right?”

Unlike the slightly abstract symbolic marks seen earlier, what now sat atop the altar was an inverted, faceless black humanoid statue. Behind it was a massive dark-golden ring, connected to the black humanoid by chains.

But what caught Luo Nan’s attention most was the black humanoid with arms crossed over its chest—and the… eye on its chest.

Whether it was an illusion or not, he felt the ‘eye’ on the faceless humanoid’s chest seed alive.

“Am I hallucinating?”

Luo Nan shook his head and re-examined the statue. “Indeed a hallucination—I knew it… how could I randomly encounter the gaze of an Abyssal evil god?”

With that thought, he stopped paying attention to the statue and walked toward the pile of record books Anya had conveniently arranged behind it.

‘Luo Nan von dillon…’

‘Who?’

Luo Nan sharply turned around, looking around. Had he just heard soone call his na?

‘I know your desire…’

This ti, Luo Nan confird he heard soone speaking. Moreover, this voice differed from normal conversation—it seed to press directly against his eardrums, impossible to pinpoint its source.

‘No way…’ Luo Nan stiffly redirected his gaze back to the statue at the center of the altar.

His line of sight directly t the ‘eye’ on the faceless humanoid’s chest!

‘Shit! Did my words co true?’

Luo Nan felt a chill crawl across his entire body. Under the gaze of that ‘eye’, everything about him seed exposed.

With this thought, he didn’t hesitate—he pulled out the remaining three ‘Sealed Purifying Light’ crystals from his chest and raised his hand, ready to activate them.

‘I understand your desire…’

‘You understand nothing—shut up!’

As a devoted player of ‘The Shining Myriad Trails’, Luo Nan naturally knew the ga’s lore regarding the Abyssal Lords. One could say these evil gods were the greatest mastermind driving the ga’s main plot.

Madness, evil, greed… these words utterly fail to describe Them. Their logic is simply incomprehensible to normal people!

Especially ‘Nature’ Saoken—Luo Nan rembered this entity’s multiple appearances in the plot and background stories, always delighting in subverting, wreaking havoc, and destroying order. It had no demands; rather, its sole demand was watching the mortals it incited slaughter each other.

This was an extrely malicious and perverse evil god.

Since awakening his past-life mories, Luo Nan had resolved never to entangle himself with these beings.

Joke’s on him—he was already a villainous side character in the original plot. If he further entangled himself with those evil gods, wouldn’t he be sprinting headlong down the road to self-destruction?

With this thought, Luo Nan didn’t wait for the voice to continue—he shoved the three Purifying Light crystals onto the statue. “Go talk to the Goddess!”

Flash—

Pure white holy light instantly illuminated the dim cellar. The eye that had just locked gazes with him, on the statue, gradually lost its vitality under the flood of light, transforming into an engraving mark on the faceless humanoid’s chest.

‘I know your difficulties…’

‘You know nothing—I’m perfectly fine!’

As the light faded and the voice in his ear completely vanished, Luo Nan sighed deeply in relief. “Good thing… I have cash power.”

“Hey, what’s wrong with you? There are no enemies down here—why waste Purifying Light crystals randomly?”

Anya painfully watched the three crystals turn to ash, feeling deeply reluctant.

Damn rich guy! If those three Purifying Light crystals were given to her, they’d cover her first year’s tuition, living expenses, and cultivation material costs at the academy!

“Heh, it’s my money—I’ll spend it however I like. I felt this place wasn’t clean, so I purified it. What, does it bother you?”

“Tch, whatever.”

After casually exchanging barbs with Anya, Luo Nan cald his mood and walked over to the pile of record books.

“Let’s see what intelligence I can find here…”
