The moon hung low on the treetops as dusk gave way to night.

Today was the last day of September, and most of the students had already left the campus. It was after 9 PM, and the area around the university’s artificial lake was quiet and deserted. The moonlight shimred on the lake's surface, while the sound of frogs and crickets filled the air. Mixed in with these natural sounds, there was a faint, almost inaudible, sound of a girl’s soft voice, accompanied by the sound of water.

Zhou Yuwen, in this mont, felt particularly bold, acting more like an eager eighteen-year-old than a steady thirty-year-old. He had parked the car in a secluded spot where no one could see them, and now he was sitting in the passenger seat with Zheng Yanyan in his arms.

Zheng Yanyan, though shy, was braver than most girls. With her face flushed, she teased Zhou Yuwen, "What’s poking ?"

"Huh? No idea. Should I take it out and show you?" Zhou Yuwen responded.

This made Zheng Yanyan’s face turn even redder. She playfully hit Zhou Yuwen, "What are you talking about!"

Zhou Yuwen pulled out his phone, "Oh, was it the phone poking you?"

"You!" Zheng Yanyan was left speechless.

But Zhou Yuwen didn’t stop there. He pressed on, "Hey, why did you hit ? It was just the phone poking you, right? Or was there sothing else? What was it? Tell ."

Zheng Yanyan blushed even more, her face turning a deep shade of red as she muttered, "You’re so bad, I’m not talking to you anymore."

Zhou Yuwen chuckled softly, "Weren’t you the one who started this?"

After so light-hearted teasing, the conversation between them began to wind down. Zhou Yuwen held Zheng Yanyan’s slender waist, looking down at her lowered face. To be honest, this was the first ti Zhou Yuwen had seen Zheng Yanyan with this kind of expression. In their past life, Chang Hao had put Zheng Yanyan on a pedestal, which made her always seem overbearing and aloof.

But now, in his arms, she showed a softer, more girlish side.

Zheng Yanyan lifted her head slightly, stealing a glance at Zhou Yuwen. In the dim light, her eyes sparkled with a gentle glow. In a sweet, soft voice, she asked, "What are you doing?"

This ti, Zhou Yuwen didn’t bother with words. He leaned in and kissed her. The kiss lasted for over ten minutes, and Zheng Yanyan didn’t resist. In fact, as they kissed, she wrapped one of her delicate hands around Zhou Yuwen’s shoulder, responding to him willingly.

By the artificial lake, all that could be heard was the soft sound of their kiss and the water lapping against the shore.

The lights in the student dormitory were half off. Most students, after attending the departnt recruitnt activities in the afternoon, hurried to catch the high-speed train ho. Even Zhou Yuwen’s roommate, Lu Yuhang, packed up and left by 3 PM. When Chang Hao and Li Qiang returned to the dorm, they found out that Lu Yuhang had already gone. Li Qiang grumbled, "That little Lu left without even saying goodbye to his two big brothers."

Over the past few days, Li Qiang had been in a relatively good mood. That afternoon, he joined the External Relations Departnt, and the departnt head, ng Lei, turned out to be from the sa town as Li Qiang, making them hotown buddies.

When Li Qiang went for the interview, ng Lei warmly introduced him to the others, saying, "This is my fellow townsman, make sure to take good care of him!" This made Li Qiang feel valued. Later that evening, ng Lei took Li Qiang and a few other new mbers of the departnt out for a simple barbecue dinner, where they drank a couple of beers and discussed part-ti jobs for the National Day holiday.

ng Lei said, "I worked hard to get you guys this part-ti job. Once you’re there, make sure to be sharp and do a good job—don’t embarrass ."

The freshn ng Lei recruited seed simple and honest, and most of them were fairly sturdy. Originally, ng Lei only planned to recruit male students, but during the afternoon recruitnt, Liu Yue expressed interest in joining the External Relations Departnt. When Li Qiang noticed her, he ntioned it to ng Lei, "Lei, this is my classmate."

ng Lei noticed that although Liu Yue looked a bit plain, she had a decent figure. With a little bit of grooming, she might actually look quite nice. So, ng Lei enthusiastically said, "Oh, Qiang’s classmate is one of us—let’s bring her in!"

Liu Yue hadn’t been very hopeful but was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get in. Originally, her first choice was the student council, but the competition was too fierce; reportedly, the acceptance rate was one out of three. Most people thought joining these student organizations was just a matter of signing up, but Liu Yue had been rejected.

At this point, she felt that the External Relations Departnt wasn’t a bad option. They could even help find part-ti jobs occasionally. That evening, ng Lei invited Liu Yue to dinner with the group.

Liu Yue found ng Lei, despite his dark complexion, to be quite a nice person. Her dorm had planned a dinner that night, but Liu Yue said the departnt head had invited her to dinner, so she postponed it.

"Oh, nice, Liu Yue! Did your departnt head specifically invite you out?"

"That ans he’s interested in you," Ma Tian and Li Jing teased her.

Liu Yue, however, remained reserved, "Don’t talk nonsense. All the new mbers were invited, including Li Qiang."

"Who’s Li Qiang?" Ma Tian thought for a mont before rembering, "Oh, I rember now—he’s Zhou Yuwen’s roommate, the big guy."

At the start of the al, ng Lei was supposed to treat everyone, but when he stepped out to take a phone call, Li Qiang suggested, "Hey, guys, the departnt head has been so good to us. He let us join the departnt and even found us part-ti jobs. There’s no way we can let him pay for this al!"

The other guys, who were all honest kids, quickly agreed. Before going to college, their parents had likely advised them to speak less and do more, not to be stingy with money, and to avoid acting like they were above everyone else. Most of their parents didn’t have much life advice to offer, so they could only pass on the little wisdom they had.

So in college, besides the students flaunting designer brands, you could also find those who dressed simply and didn’t speak much. These students were often seen as honest and kind-hearted. For example, when a girl in the front row asked her roommate, "Hey, do you have any tissues?"

"No."

"I’ve got so." At that mont, a quiet boy would pull out a small pack of tissues.

The girl, surprised, would look at him and say, "Thanks."

And just that simple "thanks" could make the boy’s entire day, sothing he’d eagerly share with his roommates later, "In class today, so-and-so needed tissues, and I had so. She even thanked ."

Li Qiang’s suggestion quickly gained the support of the other three boys. He turned to the awkward Liu Yue and said, "Liu Yue, you don’t need to pay. You’re not going to the part-ti job tomorrow, so we’ll cover the bill for ng."

"Yeah, you don’t need to pay," the other three agreed.

So, they decided to pay the bill while ng Lei was outside on his call. The call took a while, and when ng Lei returned, he noticed that Li Qiang had paid the bill. He seed a bit upset and said, "I said I’d treat you guys, so why did you pay? Do you even see

as your big brother?"

Li Qiang grinned, "We see you as our big brother, which is why we insisted on treating!"

Then Li Qiang asked, "What was that call about? You seed upset."

ng Lei replied, "Oh, it’s nothing. I had arranged that part-ti job for you guys, but I just got a call saying they don’t need us anymore. Apparently, six people from the neighboring College of chanical Engineering applied, and they’ve arranged for a special bus to take them there. The job site felt it would be more convenient, so they decided to go with them instead."

Worried about their part-ti job, Li Qiang and the others panicked, "What? What are we going to do tomorrow?"

ng Lei reassured them, "Don’t worry, it’s just one part-ti job. I’ll find another one for you tomorrow, though it might pay a bit less—about 90 yuan a day?"

"90 yuan is pretty good."

"Yeah, last ti I waited tables, I only got 800 yuan for the whole month."

"Did they pay you in the end?"

"Yeah, why?"

"That’s good. So small restaurants try to cheat you out of your pay halfway through by finding faults and making you leave."

"Yeah, I’ve been through that!"

The boys shared their sumr and winter break part-ti job experiences, finding common ground as they talked about the difficulties they’d faced. They even ntioned how so better-paying jobs, like working as a server in a KTV, required a 200 yuan deposit, supposedly for uniforms.

Here's the translated passage:

Talking about part-ti jobs is often a tale of hardship. Everyone had their share of unfortunate experiences, but ng Lei reassured them, "Brothers, that won’t happen anymore. Stick with , and I’ll make sure you’re taken care of."

"Yeah, let’s stick with ng!" Li Qiang grinned, raising his glass.

Even though they were in a small restaurant, they ate and drank to their heart’s content. After finishing the dishes, they chatted over a plate of peanuts for another two hours. By the end, several of them were indeed tipsy. ng Lei, with his arm around Li Qiang’s shoulder, said, "Brothers, finding good part-ti jobs these days isn’t easy. I want to help you all get good ones, but it’s tough."

He continued, "Especially with that Xu Huaihui association popping up at the neighboring College of chanical Engineering. Damn it, now the job agencies are just recruiting from over there. It’s getting harder for us to find work."

They drank until past 10 PM before finally dispersing. Li Qiang had downed five beers, not drunk but certainly feeling lightheaded. He made his way back to the dorm, only to find it eerily quiet.

Squinting in the dim light, he saw that only Chang Hao was there, playing gas.

Li Qiang grinned and asked, "Hao, Lao Zhou isn’t back yet?"

Chang Hao, focused on his ga, didn’t respond. Li Qiang continued jokingly, "That Lao Zhou, ever since he started dating, he’s probably off kissing Zheng Yanyan sowhere!"

The comnt hit a nerve, causing Chang Hao to frown as his concentration wavered.

Li Qiang, still chuckling, quickly added, "Just kidding, just kidding! I’ll go take a shower."

With that, he quickly retreated, leaving Chang Hao glaring at his back. After a mont of thought, Chang Hao decided to contact their counselor.

"Mr. You, are you available?"

It was nearly 11 PM.

"Yes, I’m here, Chang. What’s up?"

"Can I apply for a dorm change?"

Chang Hao couldn’t stand it anymore. It wasn’t so much about Zhou Yuwen dating Zheng Yanyan—he could accept that. But he couldn’t get along with Li Qiang, who had no sense of boundaries, reeked of alcohol, and snored loudly at night. He couldn’t spend another day in this nightmare of a dorm.

Chang Hao also regretted not booking his train ticket earlier. He could have left today, but he had wanted to stay in Jinling for a couple of days with Zheng Yanyan. Now, he felt like he was regretting every step he’d taken.

He had been using gas to numb himself, almost forgetting the situation, until Li Qiang’s comnt about Zhou Yuwen and Zheng Yanyan kissing brought everything rushing back.

"Is there a conflict in the dorm?" You Zhangjin replied after a long pause.

Chang Hao listed all of Li Qiang’s annoying habits: drinking, snoring, and using other people’s things without asking.

Mr. You, realizing it was just a matter of incompatible roommates, said, "Chang, if you had told

a few days ago, I might have been able to make so adjustnts. But now, all the rooms are full. I’ll keep an eye out for you, though."

"Thank you, Mr. You."

After ending the conversation, Chang Hao tried to return to his ga, but his mind kept replaying the image of Zhou Yuwen and Zheng Yanyan kissing.

"Damn it!"

Chang Hao, frustrated, slamd his mouse down.

In fact, Zhou Yuwen was indeed kissing Zheng Yanyan, and not just kissing. The two had spent over an hour by the artificial lake, whispering and cuddling. Zhou Yuwen had already made significant progress with Zheng Yanyan’s upper body, but when it ca to her lower body, she refused to go any further.

Zhou Yuwen had even managed to undo the button on her denim shorts, revealing a glimpse of her semi-transparent underwear. But when he tried to take it further, Zheng Yanyan tightly covered herself, not letting Zhou Yuwen see more.

Zhou Yuwen tried to reassure her, "I just want to look, I won’t do anything."

"Get lost! Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to," Zheng Yanyan’s face was flushed with embarrassnt. If Zhou Yuwen really went further, she would lose all face. Thankfully, the thick denim fabric kept things under control—otherwise, anyone would have thought she had wet her pants.

Seeing how firmly she was guarding herself, Zhou Yuwen sighed and backed off.

Despite this, Zhou Yuwen felt a sense of accomplishnt. Being reborn had its advantages—he had always thought of Zheng Yanyan as a smart girl who was hard to approach, but now she seed so obedient.

During their earlier kissing session, Zheng Yanyan had been incredibly docile, letting Zhou Yuwen lead. They started with a light kiss, then paused to look at each other, and finally moved into a deep kiss. During the deep kiss, Zhou Yuwen slid his hand over her shoulder, easily slipping off one of her straps.
