The mont Lu Lin sat on Zhou Yuwen’s lap, everyone understood. Among the group, only Qu Jing knew Zhou Yuwen personally. She was also aware that Zhou Yuwen’s girlfriend was Zheng Yanyan. But none of this mattered. Who said having a girlfriend ant you couldn’t be around other won? In that instant, everything beca clear to Qu Jing. Watching Lu Lin confidently perch on Zhou Yuwen’s lap, Qu Jing finally understood why Lu Lin could act so haughtily.
Xiao Yang and his group didn’t know Zhou Yuwen well. They might have vaguely heard of his girlfriend, but who could recall such things? Which guy spends all his ti tracking campus gossip anyway?
Now, seeing Lu Lin in Zhou Yuwen’s arms, Xiao Yang’s face changed dramatically. His heart sank—Qu Jing must be insane to provoke Zhou Yuwen’s girlfriend!
anwhile, the other two roommates froze in fear the mont they recognized Liu Shuo.
Though they didn’t know Zhou Yuwen, they definitely knew Liu Shuo. Everyone did. Three months into the sester, who in Xianlin University City hadn’t heard of Liu Shuo, the "Troublemaking King"? Zhou Yuwen had repeatedly told Liu Shuo to keep a low profile and stop getting into fights, but that was wishful thinking.
Liu Shuo thrived on chaos. Fights? A common occurrence. While he behaved in front of Zhou Yuwen, outside, it was another story entirely. He had already been involved in two large campus brawls within three months.
Liu Shuo’s reputation as the “Troublemaking King” had spread far and wide. The sight of him left Xiao Yang’s roommates panicking, cursing Xiao Yang internally: You idiot! You actually brought us into this ss with Xu Zhou Association? We’re screwed because of you!
Zhou Yuwen, anwhile, sat casually on the couch, holding Lu Lin in his arms, discussing how to resolve the situation.
Xiao Yang’s roommates clung desperately to Liu Shuo’s leg.
“Brother, this really has nothing to do with us! Xiao Yang brought us here!”
“Can’t you shut your mouth?” Liu Shuo glared at them. “Didn’t you hear my brother talking?”
They imdiately stood up, silent.
Zhou Yuwen, still seated, idly scrolled through Lu Lin’s phone. He carefully reviewed her entire chat history with Xiao Yang—reading it aloud as he went.
Lines like:
“My patience has limits.”
“I’ll make sure you can’t survive in the university city anymore.”
As Zhou Yuwen read, laughter broke out around him. Even Liu Shuo joined in, his laughter loud and unsettling.
Xiao Yang, humiliated, turned red and kept his head down, unable to et anyone’s gaze.
Even Qu Jing, standing nearby, felt secondhand embarrassnt and shifted uncomfortably away. Xiao Yang’s roommates looked equally out of place.
Zhou Yuwen casually asked Xiao Yang, who was sprawled on the floor, “Did you say these things?”
“I…” Xiao Yang lowered his head, unable to answer.
“My brother is talking to you! Are you deaf?” Liu Shuo barked impatiently. When Xiao Yang didn’t respond, Liu Shuo raised his hand and slapped him hard across the face.
The slap jolted Xiao Yang into submission. Until the slap landed, he hadn’t truly felt fear. But now, his nose tingled, and tears welled up uncontrollably.
“I’m sorry, Zhou Yuwen! I was wrong! I didn’t know Lu Lin was your girlfriend. If I had known, I wouldn’t have dared!” Xiao Yang stamred, trembling.
Zhou Yuwen replied coolly, “So if she weren’t my girlfriend, you’d still bully her?”
“No! No, that’s not what I ant!” Xiao Yang frantically shook his head. “I didn’t an to bully Lu Lin. It was all…”
Xiao Yang glanced at Qu Jing, hesitated, and then gritted his teeth. “It was Qu Jing! She told
Lu Lin bullied her. She made
co here. Zhou Yuwen, this has nothing to do with !”
Qu Jing stared at Xiao Yang in disbelief. “What nonsense are you spouting!?”
“Zhou Yuwen, I swear! As vice president of the Student Council, I only brought my friends here to diate a misunderstanding. I never intended to bully anyone! It’s all a big misunderstanding!” Xiao Yang pleaded, willing to say anything to escape.
Having spent too much ti in a civilized environnt, a few slaps had completely subdued him. He realized the harsh reality: this wasn’t a joke.
“Zhou Yuwen, this really has nothing to do with !” Xiao Yang cried, abandoning his pride.
Zhou Yuwen nodded. “So, you ca here purely to diate?”
“Yes! I swear, nothing else!”
“Alright.” Zhou Yuwen smiled. “I’ll send your chat logs with Lu Lin to your Student Council advisor. Let’s see what she thinks.”
“No! Please don’t!” Xiao Yang panicked.
He knew Zhou Yuwen had a good relationship with the advisor. Back when Zhou Yuwen was assigned his office, Xiao Yang had been there. If the advisor saw those embarrassing ssages, not only would Xiao Yang lose his chance to run for Student Council president, he might even lose his vice president position.
Desperate, Xiao Yang crawled toward Zhou Yuwen, pleading, “Zhou… Zhou Yuwen…”
“My brother’s na is not for you to call!” Liu Shuo glared, raising his hand again.
Thankfully, Zhou Yuwen stopped him. He didn’t want things to go too far.
Zhou Yuwen held his phone, smirking. “You do realize how idiotic your words were, right?”
Xiao Yang nodded silently, knowing full well how foolish he had been but unable to control himself at the ti.
“Zhou… Brother Zhou, I was wrong,” Xiao Yang admitted.
Now a third-year student, he finally understood a bit of the real world.
Zhou Yuwen stood up from the couch. Xiao Yang flinched, thinking he was about to get hit, and instinctively stepped back. But Zhou Yuwen never resorted to violence. He glanced at Xiao Yang, then at his trembling roommates, who were surrounded by Zhou Yuwen’s people.
Lastly, his gaze landed on Qu Jing.
Qu Jing had dressed up for this occasion: a sleeveless blouse paired with white denim shorts that highlighted her long, pale legs. Her appearance was striking, and her pitiful deanor could evoke a desire to protect her.
Zhou Yuwen sighed, not wanting to humiliate her further in front of everyone.
“Qu Jing,” he called her na softly.
Her entire body stiffened. After seeing the others slapped around and hearing Xiao Yang pin the bla on her, she was genuinely terrified.
Zhou Yuwen sighed inwardly. It wasn’t supposed to escalate like this—Liu Shuo had been stirring things up unnecessarily, citing so nonsense about protecting "Sister-in-law Lu Lin’s" honor.
Zhou Yuwen had told Liu Shuo repeatedly not to escalate conflicts, warning that it could backfire.
Yet Liu Shuo had simply laughed it off. “Co on, we didn’t really do anything. Besides, they wouldn’t dare make a fuss with
around.”
Now that the issue was resolved, the main concern was Qu Jing. Zhou Yuwen didn’t want her running to Zheng Yanyan and spreading rumors.
“Let’s talk in the office,” Zhou Yuwen said calmly.
“Office?” Qu Jing’s heart skipped a beat.
What did that an? Did he want to take advantage of her? Sleep with her?
If Zhou Yuwen really wanted to… did that an she’d beco his woman? Would he treat her like he treated Lu Lin?
Qu Jing sneaked a glance at Lu Lin, who remained expressionless, and felt a strange sense of anticipation.
For girls like Qu Jing, the allure of power was intoxicating. The idea of becoming Zhou Yuwen’s woman filled her with a mixture of fear and excitent.
As Zhou Yuwen led Qu Jing into the office, she followed with a mix of nervousness and faint anticipation, though she tried her best not to show it. She moved slowly, her long legs shifting in small steps to maintain a semblance of composure.
To be fair, Qu Jing had an excellent figure. Her white denim shorts accentuated her shapely figure, and her background in dance and three years of yoga in the Arts Departnt with Tao Tian had given her a slender waist and toned body.
Once inside, Zhou Yuwen glanced back to see Lu Lin standing by the door without following.
“Why are you just standing there? Co in.”
“ too?” Lu Lin asked.
“Of course. We’re here to resolve the issue between the two of you. How can I settle it if you’re not here?” Zhou Yuwen replied matter-of-factly.
Lu Lin rolled her eyes but followed him into the office.
For those watching from the outside, Zhou Yuwen’s private eting with Qu Jing might have seed like sothing untoward was about to happen. However, when they saw him bring Lu Lin in as well, their imaginations were deflated.
“Oh, so it’s not that kind of situation,” soone murmured, disappointed.
Qu Jing herself couldn’t help but feel let down as well.
Once both girls were inside, Zhou Yuwen closed the door behind them. He turned to Liu Shuo, standing outside.
“Take care of the rest of them,” he instructed.
Liu Shuo nodded confidently. “Leave it to .”
Xiao Yang and his group had already received a lesson they wouldn’t forget, but there was no intention of seriously harming them. Zhou Yuwen wasn’t interested in further involvent, leaving the cleanup to Liu Shuo, whose expertise lay in managing such situations.
It wasn’t long before Liu Shuo was "kindly" asking the group in a dark alley behind the pool hall:
“Hey, boys. We’re letting you go, but you won’t go around blabbing about this, right?”
By now, the comrcial street outside Zhou Yuwen’s office was lively, with bright lights illuminating the night.
Inside the office, Zhou Yuwen pulled the curtains shut. His phone vibrated incessantly; it was another call from Tao Tian, her third attempt to reach him.
Earlier, Tao Tian had started with texts:
“Did you arrange for Lu Lin to join the company?”
At the ti, Zhou Yuwen had been in the middle of business discussions with Zhao Jun’s labor company and had ignored her ssages. But Tao Tian grew increasingly anxious, sending another:
“Do you know about my conflict with Zheng Yanyan?”
“I didn’t an to keep it from you! She started the trouble first!”
Initially, Zhou Yuwen had intended to resolve the issue upon returning, but Qu Jing’s drama had derailed his plans. Now Tao Tian was becoming frantic over his lack of response.
Her next texts read:
“Co on, don’t be mad, okay? I know I was wrong. (pout)”
“I wasn’t trying to hide it from you; I just didn’t want to bother you. I thought I was helping! (sniff)”
“Can’t you just talk to ? I can’t focus on anything if you ignore . (crying emoji)”
She even sent a string of emojis: wagging puppies and affectionate stickers like “Miss you, hubby.”
Zhou Yuwen saw the ssages but had no ti to address her now.
Turning his attention to Qu Jing, he noted her disheveled appearance—her hair ssy, her clothes rumpled after her earlier tussle with Lu Lin. The confrontation, combined with Zhou Yuwen’s unexpected arrival, had left her genuinely frightened. Her eyes were red from crying, and she looked pitiful as she stood there.
Zhou Yuwen sat on the large couch and gestured for her to sit. “Co over here. Let’s talk things out. I actually brought you here to discuss sothing else.”
Qu Jing hesitated but was too scared to resist. Earlier, surrounded by so many people, she had been overwheld. Now, with fewer people present, her fear caught up with her. Her knees buckled, and she started crying again.
“Zhou Yuwen, I swear I know I was wrong! I didn’t know Lu Lin was your woman. If I had known, I wouldn’t have dared to do anything to her! Please, Zhou Yuwen, I’m begging you—don’t punish !”
Her voice trembled as she sank to her knees on the carpet, shocking Zhou Yuwen.
“What are you doing? Senior, please don’t act like this. What do you think I am? This is ridiculous—get up!” Zhou Yuwen said, rushing to help her up.
Despite his reassurances, Qu Jing sobbed harder. As Zhou Yuwen bent down to pull her to her feet, she suddenly threw herself into his arms, clinging to him tightly.
“Zhou Yuwen, I’m terrified! Please don’t hit . I’m so scared!”
Zhou Yuwen patted her back awkwardly, trying to calm her down. “I never said I was going to hit you.”
“Waaah…” Qu Jing sobbed louder, burying her face in his chest, clutching his arm tightly. Her tears stread freely as she leaned into him. Her delicate, tear-streaked face gave her a vulnerable charm, making her look like a fragile water lily.
Between her crying and soft, pleading tone, her voice carried a subtle, coquettish undertone—whether intentional or not.
“Zhou Yuwen, please don’t bully ~” she murmured, her voice soft and sweet.
Standing nearby, Lu Lin rolled her eyes so hard it almost hurt. As a fellow woman, she saw through Qu Jing’s act imdiately.
Zhou Yuwen sighed. “Alright, alright. I won’t hit you, okay? Stop crying.”
His tone softened as he stroked her hair gently. “We live in a civilized society now. No one’s going to hurt you. Relax, alright?”
He handed her tissues and wiped her tears. “There, see? You’ve cried so much your face looks like a panda’s. Dry those tears and look pretty again.”
Qu Jing cald down sowhat, leaning against Zhou Yuwen and letting him console her. She began to feel that Zhou Yuwen’s gentle words and actions made him seem like a protective figure—almost paternal in his warmth.
Emboldened by the mont, she stayed in his arms, taking the opportunity to let him comfort her. Zhou Yuwen didn’t push her away.
Once she had settled, Zhou Yuwen spoke gently. “Alright, there’s actually sothing I wanted to ask you.”
Qu Jing, feeling slightly reassured, nodded. Zhou Yuwen’s tone made her think he wasn’t angry anymore, and maybe she still had a chance to fix things.
But his next words were devastating.
“I heard from Linlin that you called Yanyan a ‘b*tch’ the other day. Is that true?”
