"Leander! What happened to you?" Madam Henny was a notch away from a heart attack. She cued Sumr to gather clean cloths and an ice pack. "Are you in pain?"
"It doesn’t matter. I just fell." Leander didn’t have the ti to think about his clumsiness. He only allowed Madam Henny to clean his face.
The floor burn on his nose and cheek didn’t escape Sumr’s gaze. It looked bad, as if the CEO had been dragged across his floor for so reason. She even figured he would get a bruise if it were that bad. And his upper lip... It looked swollen from the direct impact. What exactly happened to Leander in the office? Did he fall when he passed out?
Sumr’s entire body shivered when Leander heavily gazed at him. Those eyes had always been so sharp and cold ever since Luellen got comatose.
"Pretend that you are her sister. We’re barging in." Leander patted his chest and checked his phone. It was good that he didn’t crack the screen, but it still hurt his chest from the fall. Sumr figured that was the case since he rubbed the area after taking the phone out.
"What do you an, Mr Leander?" Sumr learned to call him the sa way others did. It was just that this man stopped talking to her about the wedding.
"Luellen just woke up." Leander walked off, only holding onto the ice on his face. "Houston, please drive. Henny, I’ll call as soon as we talk to her."
That was supposed to be good news. However, Leander remained quiet in the car. He held his phone as if waiting for sothing else. Sumr stayed beside him and only watched him. When he glared in her direction, she was forced to say sothing. She just needed to fight her fear to make a sound.
Sumr said, "Are you worried that Luellen wouldn’t be moving the sa way she did? It’s been three days. I think it’s still safe."
"I have a different experience with soone who woke up from a coma..." Leander murmured, attracting Sumr’s worried gasp.
"She will never do that to you..." Sumr couldn’t help but collect Leander’s hand and squeeze it for assurance. "She’s a strong person. She won’t let others down. Her parents didn’t raise a quitter. She will bounce back in no ti..."
Leander only glanced at her. He wanted to pull away, but he only squeezed her hand back. If anything, this was Luellen’s sworn sister. If she wasn’t comforting him, she was comforting herself.
They reached the hospital, and Sumr looked around for any signs of Luellen’s relatives. She hadn’t dropped Leander’s hand just yet. It was as if, if she didn’t pull the man, he would soon lose the energy to move. After all, Luellen might only be awake in her bed. If she smiled weakly, it might just break the other person.
The doctor t them outside the door. He looked uncomfortable, as if confused. However, he still warned them about the possible effects of Luellen’s coma. Coupled with her history, her heart might be weaker than it had ever been.
It was just that... when the door opened, they saw Luellen sitting on the edge of her bed. She was still in her hospital gown, but her drips were all removed. Her little pretty face only looked up at the nurse, who was explaining her dication to her.
"Lue?" Sumr gasped at the strange picture. She then waved as Luellen. "Are you...? Why are you sitting up already?"
"Sue!"
Luellen smiled and got up, soon noticing the frozen Leander beside her best friend. Sumr noticed it right away. She quickly let go of his hand and pushed him forward. The motion must have woken Leander up, but his body reacted more when Luellen ran up to him for a hug.
The movents terrified Leander, but Luellen’s noodle arms coiled around him tightly. He flattened his palms on her back and looked down at her head. He would say sothing, but he heard Luellen sobbing against him.
"Leander, I’m so sorry...!" Luellen sniffed as she cried. "I’ll go to my checks religiously. I won’t miss out on my dication. I’m really sorry...!"
"...what kind of image of did Beck paint in your mind?" Leander chuckled regardless. He held her closer, wary of squeezing her too much. "Stop crying now. It’s bad for you, too. I’m happy you’re awake now, Luellen..."
The maiden looked up with her sobbing face, but Leander rubbed her cheeks with care. He kissed her then and there, even if people were watching.
Luellen would have fawned over and savored every second of it. However, she slled sothing on Leander. When he pulled back, she held his face with both hands. She frowned a little.
She asked, "Leander...? Why do you have sothing shiny on your nose? Wait, you have it on your cheek, too! It slls like an ointnt... Did you get punched?"
Leander could only close his eyes to stave off a few drops of embarrassnt. "It wasn’t another person. I’m fine. It didn’t hurt ."
"Not another person? The floor? Did you fall?" Luellen gasped and turned to the nurse in the room. "Miss Nurse, can you check up on him, too?"
"Mr Wentworth, please allow to examine you."
The nurse bit back her laugh. This CEO heard news that his fiancée had woken up... and tripped on his way to her. How funny, how sweet. Then again, she couldn’t be too obvious about it.
"I’m not the patient. The nurses outside already checked ," Leander said so, but Luellen pulled him to the bed so that he could sit. Sumr also pushed him from behind.
The nurse only acknowledged the initial check. She still did a few standard checks before smiling at him and clearing him. The man was still in the clear. Nothing hidden worsened while he walked through the hospital. She just spoke about the ointnt they could use for the friction burn the rough carpet did to his handso face.
...
Not even the doctor knew how Luellen recovered so fast. It was as if she were not in a three-day coma to begin with. Still, they wanted her to check in after two days. Since Luellen was an adult, she checked herself out. Leander covered the pay, so her family would know who got there first.
Instead of returning to the office, Leander brought Luellen to his house. Luellen had her own place, but he didn’t want anyone coming there to bother her. At least in his house, a security firm would be alard if soone broke in. Moreover, Beckett was already ho despite his condition.
The two were left to rest in the estate’s open garden courtyard. Luellen even rembered how Leander cleaned this place with her. She sat on a garden bench, inviting Sydney to her lap, while Beckett almost wilted on the hammock.
"I’m not surprised that he tumbled down..." Beckett chuckled, controlling his laugh. He noticed the burns on Leander’s face, so he asked Luellen about them.
However, his gaze on her only weighed more heavily.
