SMACK!
The sound echoed through the empty mountains—perhaps carrying with it the sound of Yvonne Sutton’s heart breaking.
She had never regretted falling in love with Wyatt Shaw, but in this mont, she regretted it so much she wanted to rip her loving heart out and stomp it into the ground until it was nothing but dust.
"Wyatt Shaw, from this mont on, we have nothing to do with each other!"
After saying this, Yvonne Sutton turned and walked down the hillside.
The wind was cold, chilling her heart and her tears.
He was behind her, probably far away by now, but she could almost hear his breathing—heavy, deep, suppressing sothing. ’But let it be,’ she thought. ’Whatever his reasons, I’ve decided to stay away from him for good.’
When she returned to the courtyard, Candice Yates was sitting at the stone table, clearly waiting for her.
"Where did you go?"
Yvonne Sutton ignored her and continued walking toward the house.
"You shouldn’t have recorded that video. You shouldn’t have provoked . If you hadn’t, I wouldn’t have had to do anything to you."
Hearing this, Yvonne Sutton stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face Candice Yates.
"Are you admitting you pushed ?"
"Admit what?" Candice Yates let out a snort of laughter. "I was just lanting how there happened to be a tree at the bottom of that steep slope. It would have been better if that tree wasn’t there."
"Candice Yates, are you insane? That’s attempted murder!"
Candice Yates’s eyes widened. "What are you talking about? I don’t understand a word you’re saying."
Under Yvonne Sutton’s furious glare, Candice Yates broke into a smug grin.
"And Wyatt really was with . We were in my room. As for what we were doing, I don’t need to give you the details, do I? But we couldn’t just be stuck to each other the whole ti. He knew I went out for a while, and for quite so ti, too. But he chose to cover for , saying we were together the entire ti and were never apart."
Yvonne Sutton clenched her fists. She knew calling the police would be useless. The orchard had no security caras and there were no witnesses. And Candice Yates had Wyatt Shaw to give her a false alibi. There was nothing she could do to her.
"A word of advice: stay away from Wyatt Shaw from now on. I can lose my mind at any mont." After saying this, Candice Yates gave Yvonne Sutton a deep, aningful look, then left.
Yvonne Sutton went back into the house and sat in a chair for a long ti, her mind filled with the words of Wyatt Shaw and Candice Yates.
’We were in her bed.’
’He knew I went out.’
’She was with the whole ti.’
’He chose to cover for .’
’She sounds so good when she moans...’
Yvonne Sutton covered her ears as if she could block out the voices, but it was useless. The words tornted her, making her heart ache fiercely.
She sat like that until midnight, still unable to sleep.
Just then, she heard a commotion outside. Throwing on a coat, she went out and saw Daisy Shaw and gan Hughes stumbling back hand in hand.
The assistant director saw her and wiped the sweat from his brow. "Miss Sutton, could you please take care of them? I..."
The assistant director pointed at his clothes. One of the two won had apparently thrown up all over him.
"I’ll take care of them."
The assistant director said his thanks and hurried off. Yvonne Sutton guided the two drunks into the house. They didn’t need her help; they obediently lay down on the bed, but they had to keep holding hands.
"Daisy, back when we were in college, I was so poor I couldn’t afford to eat, and you used your acting pay to support ..."
"Ingrid, you knew people on set were bullying , and you beat them up for ..."
Yvonne Sutton’s mouth twitched. The two were drunk and pouring their hearts out to each other again, but they’d forget it all once they woke up.
An idea ca to her. She quickly found Daisy Shaw’s phone, unlocked it, and recorded a video of the two of them.
The next morning, Yvonne Sutton was once again woken up by the sound of the two of them arguing.
Yawning, she walked over, took out Daisy Shaw’s phone, and played them the video from last night.
Watching the video, both won looked a little embarrassed.
Yvonne Sutton went into the courtyard to wash up. Before she was even finished, she heard gan Hughes calling for her in a panic.
She quickly rinsed her mouth and ran into the house, where she saw Daisy Shaw curled up on the bed, clutching her stomach. Her face was pale with pain, and her forehead was beaded with cold sweat.
"Teacher Hughes, please help pack. I need to leave and take her to the hospital." Yvonne Sutton rushed forward to help Daisy Shaw.
"No, I haven’t finished filming yet."
"You need to be hospitalized imdiately and cooperate with your treatnt."
"There are only three days of filming left."
"Your life is more important!"
"Yvonne, I don’t want to have any regrets."
"You..."
Yvonne Sutton’s eyes turned red with anger, but Daisy Shaw gripped her arm, her face pleading.
"I have painkillers in my bag. I’ll be fine after I take one."
Yvonne Sutton sighed helplessly and could only give her a painkiller for now.
After she took the dicine, Daisy Shaw’s pain soon subsided. Yvonne Sutton told her to rest for a while and went to cook her so congee.
Yvonne Sutton stepped outside, and gan Hughes chased after her.
"Yvonne, she... what’s wrong with her?"
Seeing gan Hughes’s worried and bewildered expression, Yvonne Sutton thought for a mont and decided she should tell her the truth about Daisy Shaw’s condition.
Daisy Shaw didn’t have much ti left. She couldn’t let her waste what little ti she had on a misunderstanding between the two of them.
"She has stomach cancer. It’s terminal."
Yvonne Sutton explained Daisy Shaw’s condition to gan Hughes in detail. Before she could even finish, gan Hughes had already started to cry.
Yvonne Sutton gave gan Hughes a hug. "Teacher Hughes, please help us convince her to go back to the hospital for treatnt."
Daisy Shaw still participated in that day’s filming. Although she and gan Hughes were still awkward with each other, they had stopped arguing.
Yvonne Sutton also spoke with the director and arranged to leave for Aethelgard first thing the next morning.
Even though there were only three days of filming left, she didn’t want to stay a single day longer and face Wyatt Shaw and Candice Yates again.
She didn’t stay at the orchard for the whole day of filming; instead, she went to the Pace Family’s ho for lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Pace wanted her to stay for a few more days, saying that Stewart Pace would be discharged from the hospital soon and was coming ho for a visit. Then the two of them could return to Aethelgard together.
"The clinic needs to reopen, so I have to go back and prepare," Yvonne Sutton declined politely.
Mr. and Mrs. Pace didn’t insist. Hearing this, they said that Stewart shouldn’t bother coming ho then, so he could help her instead.
"He should still co back and see you two. I can handle the clinic on my own."
After lunch, Yvonne Sutton planned to head straight back to the compound to pack her things.
There was no one on the mountain road in the afternoon. As Yvonne Sutton passed an intersection, she saw the old bachelor who had followed her the other night leaning against a wall, sunning himself. When he saw her, he imdiately straightened up and grinned, baring his teeth.
Yvonne Sutton frowned and quickened her pace.
She had only taken a few steps when she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to see that Deuce Ward was following her.
"Hey, so you’re the Pace Family’s daughter-in-law, huh? Can’t believe a wimp like Stewart Pace could marry such a pretty wife. Is he any good in bed?"
Yvonne Sutton took a deep breath. ’God, what kind of scumbags are out there?’
"If you’re married to Stewart Pace, we’ll be fellow villagers. That makes us practically neighbors. Hey, don’t walk so fast. My house is just up ahead. Why don’t you co over and sit for a bit?"
It was broad daylight, and he dared to harass her like this.
Yvonne Sutton could only walk faster, hoping to shake him off and get back to the compound quickly.
But when the old bachelor saw she seed scared, he grew even more delighted. As if toying with her, he started throwing small pebbles at her.
"Little wifey, warm the bed, with a man on your left and a man on your right. One is dark, one is fair, one is handso, one is strong... let’s see who has more might..."
Yvonne Sutton broke into a run. After a short distance, she realized the sounds behind her had stopped. She looked back and saw she was all alone on the road.
