Yvonne Sutton looked down for a mont. Fine, she had to admit she was a little curious.
Wyatt Shaw had clearly been using Candice Yates as a stand-in for Hannah Abbott. That was why he kept her by his side, giving her resources and opportunities while demanding that she imitate Hannah.
You could call them a couple, but it was more like a transaction, with each getting what they needed.
But over the past two days, Wyatt Shaw’s attitude toward Candice Yates had changed. He began to spoil her, indulge her, and defend her, as if, in his eyes, Candice was now Hannah Abbott.
’Was it simply because Candice’s imitation had gotten more convincing?’
"You really want to know the reason, don’t you?" Candice Yates said, then let out a laugh. "But I’m not going to tell you. It’s a secret."
Yvonne Sutton watched Candice Yates coolly. "You’re quite pleased with yourself?"
"I am indeed. It serves you right for refusing to help back then. Now you see what I’m capable of, don’t you?"
"Don’t you find it pathetic, being soone’s stand-in?"
"Pathetic?" Candice Yates scoffed. "I got the resources I wanted, my career is taking off, and all those people who used to look down on are now kissing up to . Most importantly, I’m rich. I can buy whatever I want. What’s pathetic about that?"
’Candice’s objectives had always been crystal clear.’
"You got what you wanted, and you’re gloating. But what’s the point of coming here to tell all this?"
"I want you to leave Wyatt Shaw."
"We’re already divorced."
"I want you to disappear from his life completely."
"So you think I’m still a threat to you?"
Candice Yates pursed her lips. Then, as if a thought occurred to her, she sneered, "Oh, there’s definitely a threat. For example, last night, while he was with ... he actually cried out a na: Yvonne."
A wave of nausea washed over Yvonne Sutton.
’She couldn’t let herself picture it. She’d actually throw up.’
"To be honest, I don’t really care that he still has feelings for you. Even after we get married, I can tolerate you two sneaking around together. That’s just how n are; it’s in their nature to cheat. If it wasn’t you, it’d be soone else. And you, at least, have so dignity. You won’t fight with , the woman in charge, over anything."
’She was saying the exact sa thing as Wendy Winters.’
’In that mont, it was as if Wyatt Shaw had turned into Vincent Reed. The disgust she felt for Vincent was the sa disgust she now felt for Wyatt.’
"Then you can relax. I guarantee I’ll stay far away from him. And please, you keep him on a leash and make sure he stays far away from , too."
Candice Yates’s smile deepened. "It seems we’ve reached an agreent. Excellent."
After Candice Yates left, Yvonne Sutton remained seated for a long ti. She only moved when soone from the production crew called out to her, asking her to help talk so sense into Daisy Shaw and gan Hughes, who were completely refusing to cooperate with the shoot.
Yvonne Sutton got up and headed up the mountain. When she saw Wyatt Shaw walking toward her, she frowned, changed direction, and took a different path up.
As she passed under an apple tree, she saw that Candice Yates and her partner, Kelsie Kensington, had just finished filming a scene. The caras were being moved away.
"Kelsie Kensington, aren’t you afraid of heights? Why are your legs shaking nonstop?"
Candice Yates stood under a relatively tall apple tree, looking up at her partner in the branches with a mocking expression.
Yvonne Sutton recognized Kelsie Kensington. A cri drama Kelsie had recently starred in was a big hit, and she had won a Best Newcor award for her role.
Kelsie Kensington clutched the tree trunk, glaring furiously at Candice Yates.
"If you hadn’t threatened the company, I wouldn’t have joined this show! I want nothing to do with people like you!"
"Of course you didn’t want to join. You didn’t want to walk all over you, toying with you as I please while you don’t even dare to make a peep. But don’t you forget, there was a ti when you were the one walking all over ."
"I never did anything to you."
"That show you starred in recently got popular, but that role was supposed to be mine!"
"We both auditioned. The director chose , not you. How does that make the role ’yours’?"
"It’s because you pulled so strings behind my back! Otherwise, with my acting skills, there’s no way I would’ve lost to you! But just as you stole it, I can steal it back. I’ve already t with the director in private, and he’s agreed to let be the female lead for season two."
Kelsie Kensington frowned. "But we’ve already signed the contract."
"So what? He’d rather breach the contract than offend . After all, my boyfriend is the Crown Prince of the Rhodes Group."
Kelsie Kensington was left speechless. If Wyatt Shaw was Candice Yates’s backer, her support was too powerful. A minor actress like herself certainly couldn’t afford to get on her bad side.
Seeing Kelsie Kensington’s look of resignation, Candice Yates’s laughter grew even more delighted.
"This show is an opportunity I’m giving you. If you’re smart, you’ll be humble and kiss up to . If you make happy, I might just let things slide."
Yvonne Sutton exhaled. ’Candice is a classic case of a petty person who gets a little power and wants to take revenge on the entire world.’
When she got there, Daisy Shaw and gan Hughes were still bickering, their faces flushed with anger. It had gotten to the point where both of them were threatening to walk off the set.
She tried to pacify one and then coax the other, but as soon as she’d cald one down, the other would start up again.
The directing team stood by helplessly, probably regretting their decision to cast the two of them.
When lunchti finally arrived, the entire cast and crew could at last take a break.
Lunch was provided by the film crew, but the down-to-earth Miller felt that since everyone was helping her with chores for free, she should prepare a al for them. So, she had stewed a large pot of cabbage and glass noodles.
The pot of cabbage and glass noodles looked bland and unappetizing. Both the show’s guests and the crew mbers took one look before politely declining.
"Co on, try so. It’s good," Miller said, having filled a bowl. She enthusiastically offered it to everyone who walked past, but no one accepted. She grew a little awkward. "It’s... it’s not dirty. I washed everything clean. There’s at in here, too. I bought a whole pound special."
Yvonne Sutton had waited for the rest of the crew to wash their hands before going herself, so she was a little late getting back. Seeing what was happening, she rushed over and took the bowl from Miller.
"Miller, please don’t worry about it. Whoever wants so can co serve themselves. You’ve been busy all morning, you should sit down and eat."
Miller looked at Yvonne Sutton with gratitude. "You’re a good person, dear."
"I’m sure your cooking is delicious, Miller. I could sll it from all the way over there."
"Then eat up. There’s plenty left."
"Okay."
Yvonne Sutton helped Miller to a seat and, under the older woman’s expectant gaze, took a bite. She imdiately nodded. "It’s delicious. Really delicious."
’She preferred lighter flavors, so for her, it actually was quite good.’
Daisy Shaw and gan Hughes, having gone off sowhere to argue again, returned even later. When they saw Yvonne Sutton eating the stew Miller had made, they ca over as well and got a bowl each.
Miller enthusiastically offered them so stead buns, explaining that she’d made them herself. They might not be as soft and fluffy as store-bought ones, but they were nice and chewy.
Daisy Shaw and gan Hughes quickly accepted, asking the older woman to sit and eat with them.
"I just love cabbage stewed in a big iron pot, and these homade stead buns," Daisy Shaw said, taking a large bite.
"The buns and the stew are delicious. I’m going to get a second bowl," gan Hughes added.
Seeing them eat so heartily, Miller finally broke into a smile.
Hearing a shout from nearby, Yvonne Sutton looked up and saw Stewart Pace’s parents approaching with food containers. She gasped. ’Oh no, I completely forgot I promised to have dinner at the Pace family’s house last night!’
She hurried over, just in ti to hear the assistant director ask them about their relationship to her.
Mrs. Pace imdiately declared, "She’s my son’s girlfriend—my daughter-in-law!"
