Adam’s feet hadn’t even touched the cobblestone yet, but his mind was already racing, eyes fixed on the cozy do-shaped shop nestled between a monorail rail and an artificial sky garden.
Blister.
The na alone tickled sothing deep in the back of his head. A thread of mory, course through him like a save icon.
’Right... this is the place was where Xeres fought that monster...
He hovered in place for a beat, still holding Priscilla in a princess carry, and his brows furrowing as he scanned the crowd.
Neon lights even in the day glowed like cotton candy, kids laughed around a shaved-ice stand, and a holo-nu flickered overhead.
A slice of peace.
Not exactly the kind of place you’d expect a B-rank monster...no, a D-rank, in this twisted AU given that were Adam would put the Red Mantis that attack this place in the story.
In the original Harem, Dragons, and Deities, this very plaza was ground zero for the Red Mantis incident.
It was also where Xeres, the main character, got spotted by the Academy Mistress Lady August after saving Rinne Ether, a rich and prideful girl of the renowned Ether family of the ga’s first arc, and one of Xeres eventual political fiancée.
That fight was his canon entry ticket into Khan’s Academy.
And Adam?
Adam had no idea how old Xeres was here. Could be seventeen, could be five. Hell, he might be a janitor.
Maybe the Red Mantis incident already happened. Or maybe it never would. There was no real way to tell. The fusion logic of this world was a ss for the most part in terms of a proper flowing story.
Still, standing here stirred so good mories in him during his early play ti.
But he was soon knocked out his stupor when Priscilla called out to him.
"Are we going down or are you just going to keep staring like a dimwit?"
Priscilla’s voice cut through his thoughts.
Adam blinked.
Right... She was still in his arms, lounging there like royalty mid-rescue.
He grinned, cocky.
"Sorry bis sis I was just thinking."
"Hmmm... Well think after we land."
She replied coolly, but she didn’t complain when he finally descended and set her gently on her heels.
The gravity Astrum around Adam and Priscilla dissipate the mont Adam land, his horns retracting, and Priscilla adjusted her frilly black skirt, crimson eyes flicking toward the crowd.
"I suppose this is what passes for commoner indulgence."
She muttered, unimpressed.
Adam bead, as he scratched his head.
But either way he grabbed Priscilla hand once more, and surprisingly she did not brush him off or complain, as he reply to her saying as such
"Exactly. And trust , this is top-tier indulgence. Blister’s got everything: mochi gelato, nebula swirl smoothies, aurora floats... Oh! And quantum freeze pops. They chill your body in a nice way."
Priscilla a little loss as to why Adam knows so much about this place despite this being his first ti ever coming to the Human World.
"Curious I am boy... How do you even know this place?"
Adam seeing Priscilla looked at him suspiciously made up an believable excuse.
"Uhhh... rember that thing I told you? Y’know, when you asked why I slled like a certain Gordon? Back during training? Right after you asked about my eyes?"
Adam asked, causing Priscilla to nod her head while replying back.
"Hmm... Yes, I did...
"I was rather surprised to learn that Echidna of all beings took such an interest in you, and went so far as to make you her spawn."
Priscilla said as she narrows her eyes, studying Adam like a puzzle she hasn’t quite yet solved.
"Though, I must say, your physiology is... perplexing. You’ve inherited obvious variation of her abilities, yet you’re not a tahuman in any traditional sense."
"But yes, I rember it as clearly as daylight."
She responded back, thoughtful, before ending with.
"What still eludes however... is how your body treats monster genes as nothing more than harmless adaptations, when it tries to change you that is, but I guess that is to be expected from a fellow Shinso."
Hearing this Adam nods in agreent.
"Yeah, my Shinso abilities lies heavily in the specialization of quick learning, adaption and evolution via local adaption and absolute mastery via resolved of the unbroken."
But Priscilla already know this, and although she did know this, it was quite the sight to see how weird his body is.
"Well, I still intend to push that bizarre body of yours further."
She gives a faint smirk, it was one of the reason she brought Adam to the human world.
But soon change the topic to what it previously was as she asked.
"But tell , does knowing what this place is, and what it sells have anything to do with that little desire-sensing trick of yours?"
Adam just shrugged and replied casually, even though it was lie.
"Pretty much yeah."
Priscilla looked at him still suspicious, but she has no evidence to say that he was lying, so she nods her head and replied back saying.
"I see... Sigh Honestly, I still think coming here for ice cream was a stupid idea."
She said in her usual manner of speaking, as she continue to speak.
"We could’ve used this ti to test your horns, but no...you just had to drag here."
"And besides, I’m a vampire. I don’t need human food to survive. Hell, even blood for at this very juncture is but an optional pleasure at this point."
She said with a scoff.
"I can sustain myself with my own monster energy for as long as I wish, possibly forever. So pardon if I don’t find sugar cones particularly vital to my existence boy."
But Adam simply replied back saying.
"I know. That’s why I think you’ll love the blood-orange sorbet."
He said jokingly.
She didn’t roll her eyes, but sighed in minor annoyance.
Still, she followed him inside.
The place was cheerful.
Retro synth music played softly over the speakers, and the walls shimred between pink and baby blue, projecting soft gradients across glowing floor panels.
There were a few couples around, mostly students, a few off-duty staff, and even a pair of hooded adventurers sharing a giant floating banana split at the back.
Adam got in line, his hands stuffed in his hoodie pockets as he scanned the nu like it was sacred text.
Priscilla, of course, stayed a step behind, arms folded, surveying the place like she was judging whether to raze it or not.
"I suppose it isn’t... entirely grotesque."
She said under her breath.
Adam chuckled at this comnted back.
"That’s the spirit."
When they reached the counter, a bot attendant greeted them with a chirpy voice.
"Welco to Blister! What can I getcha, sweethearts?"
Adam didn’t miss the way Priscilla flinched at the sweethearts part.
"We’re not..
"She’ll have the blood-orange sorbet."
Adam cut in, smiling like he owned the place.
"I’ll take the dragonfruit-volcano float. With extra pop rocks."
The bot blinked, processing.
"Affirmative! Since you guys are first tir I will throw in so extra topping for the cute couple...no charge!"
Priscilla stiffened at these words, as she tried to correct the machine.
"NOW YOU LOOK HERE YOU PEI...
Priscilla raised her voice, but Adam grabbed her hand, and said.
"Thanks alot."
As he took the receipt with a smile and nudged her toward a booth near the window.
"Boy I was talking."
However Adam just chuckled a she drag Priscilla with him, and the two of them sat down.
"I know, I know. But hey free topping’s free topping."
Adam argued as he continue to speak.
"Besides, we kinda already stand out. I an, look at us. You’ve got the whole royal villainess aesthetic going on, and I am wearing very expensive clothing."
Priscilla hearing this, began to look around as people were indeed looking at them.
"Are those kids noble."
A group of school kids whispered among themselves.
"... Hey don’t look at them, what if they target us."
So adventures added, as they started at the two as well.
"Wow that dress looks expensive, and that kid is wearing so really pricey shoes too, ahh how I envy the rich."
One woman in a office uniform comnted.
And seeing this Priscilla sighed and just decided to follow Adam lead as they took their seats.
Priscilla prim and upright, Adam comfortably slouched. Outside the window, the monorail whooshed by, casting lines of colored light across her face.
For a while, they didn’t talk. Their desserts arrived on a hovering tray, placed carefully between them.
Adam sipped his drink, eyes drifting to the clouds.
Priscilla eventually spoke.
"...Why this place?"
He looked at her.
"Hmm what do you an? Didn’t I already told you why?"
She twirled a spoon in her sorbet.
"You dragged halfway across the city. Ignored a training opportunity. Flew through high-tier traffic zones. All to co to a dessert parlor in a commoner plaza... I get that you pinned it out with your desire thing but still why here of all places?"
Adam sighed once more as he responded.
"Because I sense alot of happiness coming from this so call commoner’s plaza as you label it. And beside, for the way you label it, your enjoying that sorbet quite alot aren’t you? It’s already more than half way finish."
"Whatttt!?"
She glances at the sorbet, then quickly turns her head away, cheeks barely pinking, as Adam was right.
"Tch... Th-that’s irrelevant."
She clears her throat, trying to recover her composure.
"I was simply... evaluating the texture. For research purposes."
"And don’t get smug just because your little instinct happened to be right this ti, brat... But this sorbet really is nice I admit."
Priscilla said trying to hide her face by turning to the side.
Seeing this Adam smirk as he replied.
"Your just so adorable big sis."
