She held up her fla-scarred fingers.

Ryon stood and stepped in front of her.
Kneeling, he gently pressed his forehead to hers.
"You didn’t fail," he whispered. "You did what no one else ever did for ."
"You stayed."
Her breath hitched.
"I’m not your guardian anymore."
"No," he said, "You’re sothing more. You’re not bound to protect now."
"You’re free... to choose ."
