Alex quickly slipped under the blanket, pretending to be sick.
Dr. Kent opened the door and urgently asked, "You’ve always been healthy. Young Master. I just did a full-body check-up on you a few days ago. How did you suddenly get sick?"
As he spoke, he rushed to Alex’s side.
"Young Master, can you describe to exactly what you feel?"
Alex blinked as Kent blinked back to him, the two locking gazes.
Kent took out various equipnt to check on Alex.
Just as Alex pondered what to do, the room door opened.
Steven walked in and asked, "How’s it going?"
Alex imdiately got out of bed and dashed to Steven, with the latter instinctively picking him up.
He said, "Dad, I’m already better. You can let Dr. Kent go."
Steven frowned. "Behave and let Dr. Kent examine you."
Alex shook his head as he hugged Steven’s neck tightly. Feeling the soft touch, Steven motioned for Dr. Kent to leave.
After Kent left, Alex let go of Steven and saw the math test papers he’d been waiting for on the table. He quickly jumped out of Steven’s arms and began solving the problems seriously.
Steven was puzzled. Just monts ago, Alex was looking at those problems like they were his enemies. Why was he suddenly so focused now?
Was he actually feeling better now?
Seeing his son being so diligent with the papers, Steven realized he needed to work hard on the food as well.
From pouring the oil and cracking the eggs, to flipping the olet and seasoning it, the entire procedure was seamless.
Half an hour later, Steven looked at his exquisite ‘cooking’, smiling in satisfaction.
On the other hand, Alex inspected the black, awful-slling ‘dish’ before him and finally understood what Emma had ant by a surprise earlier.
"Dad, I’m not hungry anymore."
Steven hid away his hopeful gaze and quickly replaced it with his usual mysterious look.
"Are you sure?"
Alex blinked, already guessing that it was Emma who had asked Steven for the olet. Otherwise, his dad would’ve never cooked by himself.
He’d definitely hurt Steven’s feelings if he refused again.
He took a fork, bracing himself before picking up the burnt olet and shoving it into his mouth.
This taste... it was impossible to even swallow it!
"How is it?"
"Shocking... Shockingly delicious..."
As he rushed to swallow the food, Alex quickly made up an excuse of being sleepy before running off to his bed.
‘Phew—Sister, I’ve really done my best.’
anwhile, Cecilia had just returned to the hotel with Emma. The latter hurriedly showed her mom a picture on her phone.
"Mommy, this kid looks just like . Could he be my brother?"
Cecilia took the phone, her exhaustion from the day instantly vanishing.
The picture displayed a promotional poster for a music talent show. Amongst the kids in it, there was one child who looked exactly like Emma.
Cecilia felt a flutter of excitent. "Emma, tell Mommy, where did you find this photo?"
Emma handed over the laptop to her and replied, "It was from an email to Mommy’s account."
Cecilia opened an email titled "Program Invitation" and read it carefully.
It was a talent show invitation. Last year’s event was made for kids, while this year’s was for adults. The email earnestly invited Cecilia to attend as a guest.
Being sharp as usual, Cecilia imdiately noticed sothing weird with the email. Although she was Riane, she was only Cecilia right now. Why would anyone invite a no-na single mom to a show?
This was surely a scam. Various online services nowadays have resulted in privacy being sacrificed, making scams much easier—it is an issue worldwide.
Despite that, the child on the poster certainly resembled Emma. Ever since her return, she barely got any clues about her son. Whether it was a scam or not, she still had to try her luck.
With that thought, Cecilia quickly replied to the email, [Okay.]
Seeing this, Emma smiled in satisfaction and ssaged Alex.
[Mission accomplished.]
Alex raised an eyebrow at the computer before quickly closing it.
He was the one who had hacked into the organizer’s system and sent Cecilia the email. The poster was an image he had photoshopped.
His plan was to get his parents, who were unfriendly with each other, to spend ti together and nd their relationship.
And Steven was an investor in the program.
The next morning, at the talent show venue.
Steven sat backstage, skimming through the participant list.
Knowing his thoughts, Zane spoke up, "Riane vanished after her return. If we hype up that she’s a mystery judge for this program, it’ll lure her out."
"Yeah."
Steven didn’t talk further, giving Zane the list as he closed his eyes to rest.
‘Riane, I’ve gone this far to provoke you. Let’s see if you’ll co out.’
Cecilia had just arrived at the venue when she glanced up and saw the massive promo poster.
"Mystery Singer Riane to be the Show’s Mystery Judge!"
In an instant, she felt like she had been scamd; this was surely a scam as she had suspected before.
She needed to quickly investigate the photo and then leave.
With that thought, she rushed into the studio.
The show hadn’t started yet, and the studio was full of participants, Riane’s fans wanting to see her, and busy crew mbers.
Thanks to her keen perception, she quickly found the show’s director.
She approached him, holding out the picture from the email as she politely asked, "Excuse , are you the producer of this show?"
The director was initially annoyed by the chaotic situation. However, he suddenly felt calm seeing Cecilia’s face.
How beautiful.
Even after many years working in entertainnt, he’d never seen such a pretty woman.
Cecilia waved her hand to get his attention, making him finally focus on the photo.
"Yes, I hosted this before."
Cecilia felt hopeful in her heart and continued asking, "Do you rember the child on this poster?"
The director examined the poster carefully but shook his head.
"That child wasn’t a participant. I rember every kid, and he definitely wasn’t one of them."
Cecilia’s hope vanished. She lowered her gaze and softly thanked him.
He stepped forward. "Excuse , would you like to join the program this year?"
If her beautiful face was on screen, the show would surely gain popularity.
Cecilia was suspicious. After all, the email she received was supposed to be an invitation.
It seed like the show was legit, but the email sender had an issue.
She politely declined, ready to leave so she could investigate the email. However, she saw an annoyed face the mont she turned.
It was Sophie.
Sophie, a fan of Riane, also dread of being a singer. People had always said her singing was worse compared to Cecilia’s, and they didn’t stop even after Cecilia turned mute.
Now, Sophie had to prove herself.
She obviously also noticed Cecilia as she stord over purposefully.
Cecilia was annoyed, her eyebrows furrowing.
‘What a pain.’
Sophie stood in front of Cecilia, raising her voice deliberately.
"So, a mute like you is also joining the singing contest?"
