Cecilia was taken aback for a mont.
"Is Aunt Rainy sick?"
Alex denied it.
"No, that’s not it..."
He wanted to tell Cecilia what happened to Rainy at the hospital today, but he thought his explanation might not be complete enough. It was better for his mom to go and ask Rainy directly.
"It seems Aunt Rainy encountered sothing tricky. Mom, if you have ti, please check on her."
Cecilia frowned.
Soone as carefree as Rainy was facing so trouble, and at a hospital, nonetheless...
Early the next morning, after dropping Alex off at kindergarten, Cecilia recalled what he said last night. She went straight to the hotel where Rainy stayed after returning to the country.
She knocked on the door, only to be t with a Rainy who had eyes swollen like walnuts—it was obvious she had cried all night.
Cecilia was startled and quickly asked, "What happened? What’s going on?"
Rainy avoided eye contact, pouring herself a cup of coffee as she said, "I have an eye infection, it’s nothing serious."
Cecilia frowned; she knew Rainy wasn’t planning to spill anything today. She had always been stubborn, only talking about what she wanted. If she didn’t want to say sothing, no one could make her.
"Well, it’s fine as long as you say so. By the way, the fashion designer you like just released a new collection. Want to check it out?"
Rainy shook her head.
"No, I’ve been quite busy lately. I’ll go with you once I’m free."
On the surface, Cecilia nodded casually. However, she was already suspicious in her mind.
Rainy must be in trouble—serious trouble! Otherwise, she wouldn’t refuse the collection from that designer she likes!
After leaving her place, Cecilia headed straight to a private detective.
It seed like this matter was sothing Rainy couldn’t handle alone.
After seeing Cecilia off, Rainy tidied up and headed to Olive’s house. Being a kindergarten teacher, she knew where Larry’s family lived. Despite the harsh words her sister gave her yesterday, she wanted to clarify what had happened all these years.
Olive’s place was located in a small villa Cole had given exclusively to her and Larry. Due to their status, the villa was quite remote, and there weren’t many people around.
Inside the house, Larry had gone to school today. Olive was cleaning the house when Cole suddenly barged in, startling her.
Still shaken up from yesterday’s incident, she quickly wiped her hands and poured him so tea.
"What brings you here? Larry’s at school and won’t be back until the afternoon."
As long as he wasn’t around, their lives were relatively peaceful. But whenever he visited, there would always be trouble. If he wasn’t venting about his father-in-law, he would start complaining about his business instead; either way, he would find a reason to tornt her.
He raised an eyebrow.
"What? I can’t co to my own house?"
She felt a wave of fear and quickly explained, "I didn’t an it like that. I just thought you would be happier if Larry were ho..."
Annoyed by her chatter, he impatiently said, "Enough, enough. Stop bringing Larry into this. No need to be afraid; I’m here to tell you so good news today."
Olive felt a glimr of hope. Could it be that he has agreed to let her take their son away?
Cole handed her a docunt and said, "This is the agreent for you to voluntarily give up custody of Larry. Sign it, and you will be free."
Seeing the agreent, Olive fell into shock and distress.
This man really intended to take away her child and abandon her, the mother—in other words, he was breaking them apart.
With trembling fingertips, she refused, "No, I can’t sign this agreent."
Cole’s eyes widened, looking as if he might hit her at any mont.
"Olive Foster, do you think I’m negotiating with you here? I’m only here to inform you!"
"Whether you want to or not, you will sign this agreent!"
She couldn’t understand. They had lived this way for so many years, so why was he insistent on taking Larry now?
"Why do you insist on separating Larry and ? I’ve promised not to interfere in your life and to only focus on raising Larry. Why are you forcing all of a sudden?"
Cole sneered.
"It doesn’t matter if I tell you. I’ve waited so many years, and finally, my father-in-law is close to dying. Once he’s gone, the group will fall into my hands. My wife is perpetually ill; she’s basically just a barren hen now. I’ve already discussed with the old man about adopting a boy from my relatives as a successor.
"Larry will co with ; I’ll arrange for him to beco my distant nephew whom I will raise attentively. Olive, our son is about to beco the successor. Are you trying to ruin his bright future by stopping now?"
Olive was stunned by his shalessness, even feeling so sympathy for his wife, whom he had manipulated for her entire life.
However, she also knew Larry had never wanted to be a successor. Even if he went over there, he would be isolated.
"You might say that, but I will never allow you to separate Larry and !"
Having reached his limits, Cole took out a wad of cash from his bag and shouted at her, "Olive, have I been treating you so well all these years that you have forgotten what you are?
"You’re just a hen who ca to for my money. This amount I’m giving you is enough to last you a lifeti!
"Now take the money and get out!"
With that, he harshly flung the wad of cash at her face!
