Chapter 987: As Always, the Sa Place

The term “Elf” in “Elf Swordsman” does not refer to the elves of an alien species, but to the pervasive spirits of elents.

The world has essence, and all things have spirit; vegetation, soil, stones, even abstract concepts and knowledge can be nurtured and grow in the tide of magic elent, then descend to the world as magic creatures.

But this process is not instantaneous; before gathering enough magic power to be born as a sentient being, the ambiguous stage between elents and magic creatures is called “spirit.”

Although summoning techniques only apply to high-tier Demon Kings or fantasy species, and were popular in ancient tis when magic creatures were served as gods, strictly speaking, it is a spell already obsolete by the era.

But at the Royal Capital Academy, there’s a magic subject called “Summoning.”

The main content of the summoning system is not calling across realms for Demon Kings, but communicating with elental spirits in the atmosphere and stones using the spellcaster’s own magic power, and nurturing their forms, summoning Fla Spirits, shaping them into Magic Statues, or even calling Storm Elents equivalent to high-tier monsters.

Going deeper, it can even accomplish effects like giving life to curses.

Thus, “spirits” is actually a general term; in fact, as long as one reaches the seventh-tier fantasy species like Hunting Knowledge or Fantasy Snowflake Scales, almost all can be referred to as spirits.

As for the “Elf Race,” those sharp-eared forest people are called elves because of their exceptional appearance and elent talent, coupled with their long lifespan, initially mistaken by humans as non-human entities, leading to confusion in terms of naming.

However, first slavery, then fifteen years of Holy War, those sharp-eared alien species have not vanished from the kingdom but have beco very rare.

And the Elf Swordsman is an innate profession that can sign temporary contracts with elental spirits in the atmosphere and use elental sword blades.

This na was chosen because the fighting style of this profession is similar to that of the elves of the alien species, both requiring elental talents that are exceedingly rare among humans.

It is said to be a much more popular profession than Beast Spirit Mage.

So even believe that only descendants who inherited elf lineage can awaken such a profession…

Yet, she hadn’t heard her grandfather ntion any elven ancestors.

Facing the Hero’s sowhat envious gaze, the young man shook his head:

“Actually, this profession isn’t as good as everyone thinks.

“Because communicating with the elents requires the spellcaster’s qualifications, and my initial spiritual power was not enough to sustain my command over the spirits for long periods.

“As such, initially, I could only, with the help of the Wind Elent, strike a little faster, more like a pure swordsman.”

The youth chuckled and continued:

“However, the first task my father chose for , though seemingly insignificant now, almost pushed my abilities to their limits, requiring a transcendence of those limits to complete.

“So the awakening of this talent undoubtedly helped greatly.

“Although it took nearly half a month, I completed the task smoothly and directly beca a Black Iron level adventurer.”

“Then—” Realizing sothing, the Hero’s Erald Eye suddenly lit up.

Unlike herself, he had beco a swordsman…

Yet facing the Hero’s expectant gaze, the smile on the young man’s face began to slowly disappear, his expression gradually sinking, eventually hanging his head in pain.

Seeing this, the light in the Hero’s eyes dimd, clenching her fist.

“—But when I returned, she was already gone.” The youth’s voice was a low whisper, almost inaudible.

Abducted by Goblins, tornted and rescued, then chose to end her own life.

Excitedly returning to the city, the boy who went there saw only her funeral.

The beautiful monts once believed to last forever suddenly shattered, never to be restored.

“…I couldn’t protect anything.”

The youth gritted his teeth, the surging anger and ferocity in his gaze made one unable to think of him as just a phantasm.

“And then, on that day, at her funeral, I awakened as the Hero.”

The Hero listened silently, unable to utter a comforting word.

“In the city where she was no longer, suffocation made it unbearable.

“Even knowing it was unreasonable anger, I couldn’t help but resent my father—if it weren’t for that task, I could have been by her side.

“So I left without bidding anyone farewell, leaving only a short letter at ho, then setting off alone on the path of slaying goblins.”

At this point, the youth let out a long sigh, his expression cald down, yet flas continued to flicker in his eyes.

“Looking back now, none of my decisions then can be called right.

“Clearly awakened with the power of an Elf Swordsman, yet never consulted my father; brought little traveling expenses when leaving ho, solely driven by anger, accepting tasks to slay Goblins as I went, wherever it led …”

With a little thought, it’s undeniably obvious this approach wasn’t right.

But for the vengeance-fueled Hero, there was no other path to take.

If the hatred was towards demons, she might even unhesitatingly, co what may, dive into the Blood Abyss.

“However, such a life was naturally unsustainable for a child of a noble lineage, and soon, I collapsed on the roadside from weakness,” the youth sighed lightly.

Upon hearing this, the turbulent emotions within the Hero also cald down.

She didn’t feel worried, instead revealing a gentle smile.

“And then, you t her, right?”

“Yeah.” The young man smiled too, “The Border Count’s only daughter… she rescued , collapsed on the roadside, and even had the guards take care of for a whole day.

“Though she was a bit annoyed back then, saying I delayed her from going back to celebrate her father’s birthday—”

“But she didn’t abandon you, did she?”

“No, she simply took along and brought back ho.” The young man rubbed his nose, “Honestly, if it weren’t for eting her, I might have died unnoticed on the roadside.”

The Hero, unable to detach himself, showed a bit of a wandering gaze.

“And when I got ho, well… no one was worried about my disappearance nor did anyone question my ragged return…” The young man shook his head helplessly again.

“Ah, it indeed happens.” The Hero nodded in complete understanding.

“I might have felt hurt before, but at that ti, it felt calming surrounded by such an atmosphere.” He chuckled freely too.

“In the ti afterward, I was taking goblin subjugation requests from around while asking my father for advice on using ‘Elf Techniques’… it was also then that I heard news of a Fantasy Species appearing nearby.”

“Fantasy Species…It’s Sister White Snake, right?” The Hero thought for a mont and understood.

Without that wild outdoor experience, the young man hadn’t been expelled from his ho like she was, and naturally, he wouldn’t have journeyed back ho with the Little Girl at the ti and run into the White Snake.

“Yes, there had been no Fantasy Species appearing in the Kingdom for many years, so the appearance of the White Snake caused a huge stir in the Adventurer Guild, and the City Lord even personally ca to my father hoping he’d enhance precautions…”

The young man said.

“But at that ti, I didn’t think much about it, just knowing the area where the White Snake appeared was right on her path, so I packed up my things that day and rented a Chocobo to leave the city.”

“And then?” The Hero, intrigued by a life trajectory seemingly both real and illusory, listened with great interest.

“Following the traces, I found my way to Lake Town and found her resting in an inn there.

“Though her body was in no serious condition, and she even briefly communicated with the White Snake, after the White Snake left, influenced by that strong Magic Power, she remained in a state of persistent low fever.

“Even though there’s no danger to her life, it wouldn’t be good to push on, so the guards advised her to give up this journey, but she still persisted.”

“Lake Town was holding the fishing festival back then, right? Didn’t you join the activities?” Reflecting on that experience, the Hero asked.

“Yes, the fireworks that night were beautiful.” The young man nodded then shook his head, “But she was very weak back then, and I naturally had no mind to go out and play.

“Because Lake Town is not far from the village in the countryside, I asked her to stay at my grandfather’s to see if she could quickly regain her health.

“During those days, we naturally beca good friends.

“Unlike , she has excellent Mage talents, and her perception of elents is even keener than mine as an Elf Master.

“During the ti at my grandfather’s, I often walked with her, enjoying the various elents in nature and learning a lot from her.

“While sensing the natural elents in the nearby forests, our movents even attracted the wandering Sli King…”

“You t it too?”

“Yeah, it was quite alarming back then. After all, my prowess was far from being a match for a High-tier Monster, I just wanted her to run away alone.” The young man chuckled, “We even had a quarrel about it afterward.

“But actually, the Sli King was very friendly—”

“And tasted great!” The Hero agreed, nodding cooperatively.

The young man’s words abruptly ceased, as if a question mark appeared above his head.

“…Tasted great?”

“…Sorry, just pretend you didn’t hear that.” The Hero’s expression twitched, and he nonchalantly turned his head away.

The Depraved Hero beside him swayed on his chair, rocking back and forth, emitting a piercing laugh.

“Ahem… alright.” The young man cleared his throat and continued, “Anyway, after communicating with the Sli King using my abilities as an Elf Master, we signed a contract…

“At that ti, our movents even attracted the Elf Rabbit, who ca out to watch secretly.

“I certainly didn’t waste the opportunity, not only receiving the Healing Purple Gemstone to smoothly cure her weakness but also luckily obtaining a colorful gemstone.”
