Everyone nodded in agreent with this underlying tone.

Neither the Science Academy’s Departnt of Physics delegation nor Yang Zhenning personally had any ulterior motives regarding the construction of a collider.

If there were any personal motives, it would only be for the sake of research.

"I’ve seen the collider in Europe and even went inside. I’ve looked at a lot of experintal data, and it’s indeed very interesting. It’s very useful for the study of microscopic physics."

"Without considering the economic benefits, from an academic standpoint, I have no reason to oppose it, and I believe Professor Yang feels the sa way, right?"

Yang Zhenning nodded in affirmation.

If one doesn’t consider the huge amount of funding required, no one would oppose the construction of a large physics experintal facility.

"But the input cost has to be taken into account because it involves a very large investnt. Whether this investnt is truly worth it is the crux of the controversy." Zhao Yi analyzed the situation clearly, pointing out that the controversy lies in whether such a high input is worth it.

He continued, "So, I’m not against building the largest collider; I oppose ’building it now.’"

"The timing isn’t right!"

Upon hearing Zhao Yi’s argunt, everyone looked at him seriously. Even Yang Zhenning found his argunt to be quite innovative

"From an academic and research perspective, do we have a need for a collider? Personally, I don’t, at least not for now. Even if I need so data, the shared data from Europe is sufficient."

Several people in the conference room nodded along.

"Of course, you could say that once it’s built, we’ll have it, but the collider is for verification, not for raising questions. Otherwise, what’s the point of having theoretical physicists? Foreign countries proposed the Higgs problem fifty years ago, and it’s only now that the collider has verified it, not that the collider has discovered sothing new and then analyzed what it is."

"The logic behind this must be clarified."

"Basic theoretical knowledge is critical, and at least up to this point, no issue has arisen in our country that requires the construction of the world’s largest collider for verification."

"This is academia."

Zhao Yi paused for a mont before continuing, "Another issue is the economy. Investnts of tens of billions or even hundreds of billions are no trivial matter."

"Our country’s economy is developing rapidly, and perhaps in ten years, it will double or even more. At that ti, constructing the largest collider may not seem like such a huge investnt, whereas it is still a long way off today."

He looked around and concluded, "So I am not against building the world’s largest collider, but I am against building it now."

"Maybe in ten years, the ti will be right, and we can start building it."

Everyone in the conference room began to ponder.

Zhao Yi sat back down.

Ruan Wenye gave him a thumbs-up and whispered in admiration, "You spoke really well. That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking."

"Hehe."

Zhao Yi smiled back at him.

Most people in the conference room were deep in thought. So nodded at Zhao Yi, acknowledging his argunt, while others still frowned, but did not refute anything.

First, Zhao Yi’s argunt made sense.

Second, even if his argunt was not aligned with their expectations, it was more palatable than outright approval or opposition.

The atmosphere was slightly better afterward.

There was still so awkwardness between the Science Academy’s delegation and Yang Zhenning, but since Zhao Yi played the diator, no one wanted to outright tear their faces apart. Those who were familiar with Yang Zhenning still managed to exchange so smiles and save face.

Zhao Yi felt quite depressed - he didn’t want to diate between the opposing parties, yet he had no choice but to accept the role of the ’peacemaker.’

Both the Science Academy delegation and Yang Zhenning had co only because they heard he would be here. Although there was a passive elent to their attendance, he was undeniably the central figure of the symposium.

Jiangzhou University’s hospitality was warm, and arrangents for accommodations were flawless.

In addition to leading a large group of scholars on a tour of the university, there was also a sightseeing itinerary planned. This included taking the visiting delegation to nearby tourist attractions before the symposium.

Jiangzhou is a city with mountains and rivers, and the surrounding scenery is absolutely stunning. There are many historically and culturally significant places worth visiting in person.

Everyone was treated to see the various attractions during which they could discuss academic matters.

Zhao Yi was quite satisfied with the hospitality.

He initially thought he was just attending a conference, but he didn’t expect to be able to discuss issues with top physicists during sightseeing excursions. While enjoying the fresh air amidst the mountains and rivers, his personal state of mind seed to transform in a unique way.

Of course.

In reality, academic exchanges and intense research are far more effective than sightseeing, which will inevitably impact one’s attention. Perhaps as soon as one thinks of a question, they spot a beautiful location, capture a photo, and then their train of thought is interrupted and can’t be resud.

Fortunately, Zhao Yi did not intend to do any research. He just discussed quantum physics and theoretical physics problems with Yang Zhenning, Ruan Wenye, and the mbers of the Science Academy.

He gained a lot of insight in just a few days.

Yang Zhenning explained the problem of parity nonconservation to Zhao Yi in great detail. His explanation was quite different from Gao Yihua’s textbook-based approach, as it was not only more detailed in content but also delved deep into particle spin issues.

Zhao Yi was extrely interested in this problem.

In simple terms, the discovery process of parity nonconservation involves the direction of particle spin, in which an asymtry occurs when mirrored.
