The next day, Lin Xian and CC sat in the living room having breakfast, while the black and white television was showing the morning news.
"Your voice seems to have improved quite a bit."
CC said to Lin Xian, holding a sandwich with her fork:
"It feels less hoarse now, basically back to its original sound."
"Really."
Lin Xian cleared his throat and tried it out.
Indeed.
It might have been the fire subsiding, or perhaps yesterday’s folk redy "boiled egg flower" really worked:
"I don’t know whether that’s good news or bad news."
He said helplessly.
He looked at the calendar beside him.
CC had already flipped it to November 1, 1952 this morning.
There were only 4 days left until eting Einstein at the Brooklyn Suburbs farm on November 5.
Actually...
Ti is secondary.
Being early or late doesn’t really matter.
The key is, how can he hide his voice and appearance? He surely can’t wear a gorilla mask to et Einstein?
Obviously not.
Mi Country isn’t celebrating Halloween every day, wearing a mask at a party is fine, but visiting soone else’s ho with a mask on is really impolite... plus Einstein wouldn’t understand, nor could he explain, it would seem suspicious.
Lin Xian took out the small piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to CC:
"CC, can you help check this address, isn’t it not far from the orphanage you grew up in?"
CC swallowed her food and took the paper, glancing at the address written on it:
"How could it be not far, there’s still so distance. On the map it indeed looks close, but actually... it’s at least five miles."
"This is Einstein’s farm."
Lin Xian put down his knife and fork, leaned against the chair back, and said softly:
"In those years, starting when you were twelve or thirteen, Einstein repeatedly passed by the front of your orphanage, his destination should have been that farm."
CC looked at the paper and thought for a mont:
"But... it doesn’t make sense."
She handed the paper back to Lin Xian, saying doubtfully:
"If he really planted sothing or raised sothing on that farm, and he only went three or four tis a year, this frequency is a bit low; even if he didn’t do it himself, farm owners usually have a lot of things to deal with."
"And if he just used that farm as a vacation villa... I think there are obviously better places to choose. Moreover, every ti he went to this farm, the ti interval was about the sa, it wouldn’t be so regular if it was a vacation, right?"
Lin Xian nodded:
"I think so too, it’s obvious Einstein’s purpose on that farm isn’t planting vegetables, raising cattle, or vacationing... he has so other [purpose]."
"But there’s no need to discuss this now, anyway, he invited to the farm on November 5, by then, the truth will naturally be revealed."
"Today the weather looks good outside, where would you like to play? Want to buy sothing? We can check out of this room and head to sowhere further in Manhattan to see a——"
Suddenly.
The morning news broadcast on the television was cut off.
The female presenter was full of excitent and pride, speaking loudly in the studio:
"Next, we will interrupt with exciting news! According to the latest received information, today, November 1 at 2 a.m., Mi Country military successfully tested a thermonuclear device nad ’Mike’ on Elugelab Coral Island."
"The test was a perfect success, this thermonuclear device released the equivalent of 10 million tons of TNT, leveling the entire small island."
"We are very honored to introduce to everyone, this thermonuclear weapon with power far exceeding the Atomic Bomb is the first hydrogen bomb on Earth worldwide! The successful developnt of this hydrogen bomb marks our military strength far surpasses any country in the world!"
The female presenter on the television.
Boastfully spoke.
The situation looked excellent, with an attitude of obliterating the Soviet Union tomorrow.
It’s understandable.
In this Cold War stalemate era, Mi Country developing a powerful hydrogen bomb indeed greatly boosted public confidence and sense of security... It’s now the Soviet Union’s turn to feel nervous.
However, Lin Xian, seeing from God’s perspective, knew that the Soviet Union wouldn’t be nervous for long.
Because.
Two years later in 1953, the Soviet Union also successfully tested their first hydrogen bomb, becoming the second country to possess hydrogen bomb capabilities; and the Eisenhower administration in Mi Country issued the nuclear retaliation plan at this ti, forming worldwide nuclear deterrence officially.
One has to say, the pace of technological advancent during the Cold War felt like myth.
Mi Country and the Soviet Union completely disregarded the cost, cutting off all retreat while racing for technological superiority, one following the other, making breakthroughs back and forth.
"It’s truly a magical era."
Lin Xian sighed, such a rapid advance in technology seed never to happen again.
"Hydrogen bomb?"
CC tilted her head:
"10 million tons equivalent... what does that an?"
"You know the Atomic Bomb from World War II, right."
Lin Xian explained to her:
"The Atomic Bomb from World War II had an equivalent of 200,000 tons of TNT, so roughly calculated, the power of this hydrogen bomb is about 500 tis that of the Atomic Bomb."
"500 tis!!!"
CC’s eyes widened, shouting:
"Back then that one Atomic Bomb destroyed an entire city, wouldn’t this hydrogen bomb destroy 500 cities?!"
"Not really."
Lin Xian smiled faintly:
"Its destructive power isn’t calculated that simply, but the power is indeed much greater than the Atomic Bomb."
At this mont.
The female presenter on the television had finished reading the script, facing the audience with a smile:
