It is common knowledge that if they don't et the advancent requirent, the divine flesh within them will reject the second divine flesh when they are in the process of assimilating it. That will have led to death.
They are not in danger of that with the pathway of the telepath because they have probed more than ten different minds with their ntal probe.
The pathway of the undying is also safe because they have used five types of objects to try and break their Aegis shield.
All they need to finish their preparations is the advancent requirent of the pathway of killing. For that, they need to use the divine ability of Sever to kill three people.
This is sothing that they can achieve on their own. But seeing as the pathway of killing is their public pathway, they will have to explain how they made progress to it to their captain.
Rather than co up with sothing that can incriminate them, they decided to et the requirent in an aboveboard manner. Another incentive is that if they et the requirent according to the protocol of the lamp bearers, they will be given a rank 2 divine flesh of the pathway of undying for free.
So they inford Captain Sheckel, and she told them to co and see her when they were ready. Of course, she told them to take a day or three months to relax and think about it, but they didn't listen to her. They went to see her the next day before their shift.
As soon as they walked into her office, the first thing they did was to snitch on Shawn.
He said to her, "Shawn asked to take him to my house yesterday. I refused him, but he tried to follow ho yesterday. What is going on with him and the Ivory family? Am I in danger? What is the organization going to do about this?"
The captain looked good. In fact, she looked radiant. Legion was briefly taken aback by how she looked because she looked different from what she usually looks like.
They couldn't tell exactly what was different about her. If they had to say sothing, it would be that she looked happy and relaxed.
But if what they think she looks like is true, then she must have been unhappy and burdened by sothing in the past, which they didn't notice.
They didn't have to think too much about what she could have been unhappy about in the past. They haven't experienced such things personally, but they've been epic beings too and know many epic beings. So they know what epic beings usually suffer through.
They thought to themselves, "It seems she used to struggle with her divine flesh, and now she has resolved it. Does that an she is ready to advance to the fifth rank?"
They thought that to themselves as they took their seat in front of her table.
In response to their complaint, she sighed and said, "Shawn hasn't done anything wrong yet. He hasn't betrayed the lamp bearers, so I have very little to accuse him of."
Legion asked in surprise, "What do you an? He is clearly in cahoots with the Ivory family, and the Ivory family cannot be up to anything good."
She shrugged and said, "That's the conclusion that you and I can co to with her mind. We are smart that way. The brand is not that smart. It can only determine if soone has broken an oath based on their actions, not their motives."
"Shawn hasn't done anything harmful to the lamp bearers yet. At most, his actions have been suspicious. That doesn't count as a betrayal. The brand won't do anything until a fellow lamp bearer is hurt due to his actions."
Legion listened attentively and took notes. To be honest, they were being inspired by Shawn's thods of bypassing the restrictions of the oath.
Their complaint to Captain Sheckel was to make her force Shawn to back off of them. But it was also to hear what she had to say about Shawn's thods and learn from it.
That was what was going on within them. But outwardly they were frowning and unsatisfied with her response.
They frowned and asked her, "So are we to just ignore Shawn's actions and wait until his actions kill soone before we take action? If that is what we are going to do, I doubt that Shawn's actions will stop with one lamp bearer being hurt."
"Now that the Ivory family knows where every lamp bearer lives, it is unlikely that they will settle for one lamp bearer. Once they make a move, it is highly likely that they will take down many lamp bearers and their families."
She shook her head. "It is unlikely that the Ivory family will kill any lamp bearer. Not unless they don't want this town anymore."
"Anyone who kills a lamp bearer will be branded by the oath of that lamp bearer so the murderer will be easily identified and found. Plus every lamp bearer can tell their situation before their death through the blood network. And finally, we have very powerful investigative thods."
"If the Ivory family has anything to do with the death of a lamp bearer, the force of tens of thousands of lamp bearers in the kingdom will fall on them. There will be nowhere left for them to live in this kingdom, even if they are the emperor."
"So I don't think they intend to harm any lamp bearer. It is more like they want to put the lamp bearers on house arrest to prevent them from interfering in whatever it is that they are planning. So I don't think your life is in danger."
What she didn't say was that the scene of the death of any lamp bearer with the blood vessel in their head will be known to her when she recovers the blood vessel and returns it to the heart of the blood network that she carries.
