Chen Gu looked up at the most advanced model of the Close Range Attack Ship overhead. The military's waters really run deep, he thought. How could they call this a reserve force?

But the giant spider Insect had been dealt with, so Chen Gu expressed his thanks, asking them to remain vigilant in the air and that their involvent in other matters was not needed.

On the ground, everyone was busy treating the wounded, while the follow-up action team and the cleanup crew entered the scene to check for any stragglers.

Although the case on planet Nie Dun No. 6 was resolved, the massive "storm" it unleashed was just beginning.

It started with the Xiaogasa Family. Blinded by greed, they had traded strategic goods of the Confederation for various benefits.

The subsequent investigation involved not only the Bureau of Mystic Security but also a special departnt that reported directly to the Council of Elders.

Besides the Xiaogasa Family, the Shareli Family was also implicated with so military departnts. These departnts had been bribed when receiving the highest-grade defense suits from the Xiaogasa Family, stamping patently unqualified products as qualified. These faulty suits were then sent into military warehouses!

However, these people weren't entirely heartless. They knew full well which defense suits were truly qualified and which had issues.

When it was ti to carry out grueling tasks requiring these defense suits, they would allocate the qualified ones.

The unqualified ones… would be left in the warehouse indefinitely. These items had expiration dates, or other thods would be devised to declare them scrapped.

On the surface, they might have looked like re parasites, but did they not understand where the stolen Titan Jade would end up being used?

Bai Yunpeng was furious because of this. The military had recently been exposed for various corruption issues, sothing that distinguished officers like him found intolerable.

This ti, the Rainbow team did not return to Capital Star imdiately after completing their mission as they usually would, leaving the rest of the wrap-up work to their subordinates.

Not only that, but Dr. ng Ji and Dr. Obayan, who were already en route back, were ordered by Aviloya to remain on the planet. Their task was to determine the origin of these Insects and how they had evolved step by step to their current stage.

The reason Rainbow personally oversaw the matter was clear: this ti, these Insects had targeted professionals.

The first step of the investigation, ironically, was a sweeping internal investigation within the local Bureau of Mystic Security.

Hou Min and Qiu Wuben were the only ones trusted. Though reluctant, they still played a significant role in this "self-examination" process.

So forr colleagues had complaints about Hou Min, but the vast majority were envious.

Chen Gu had already made it clear to Hou Min that he hoped Hou Min would transfer to the head office. When Hou Min eventually returned from there, he would be an Imperial Envoy. In the future, even Director Qiu Wuben, when needing sothing done, would rember his connection with Hou Min at the head office.

In stark contrast was Apu.

The opportunity had been presented to both him and Hou Min simultaneously, yet he had lost it due to his slippery and lazy disposition.

Hou Min initially worried that the self-examination work would cause him to be ostracized by his old colleagues. But then he realized that while he might be a "nice guy" by nature, it's impossible to make everyone like you.

After the self-examination, the situation turned out much better than he had anticipated. Conversely, Apu, who had not participated in such work, was still disliked by everyone.

With the self-examination complete, the situation looked relatively optimistic. At the Nie Dun No. 6 branch, personnel had indeed beco sowhat slack, leading to many oversights. However, the overall situation was still positive: only nine special agents were found to be contaminated, and an additional two had been covertly replaced by iron-thread worms.

After several more days of investigation, the situation was largely clarified.

Hou Min had summarized everything and was preparing his report.

Today was a montous day for the entire Nie Dun No. 6 branch, as Her Excellency the Director-General would personally listen to their report via remote video.

Everyone in the branch, from top to bottom, including Qiu Wuben, was on tenterhooks, not to ntion the one presenting the report, Hou Min himself.

When the ti ca, Aviloya's holographic projection appeared punctually in the conference room. Hou Min swallowed hard, his face turning slightly red.

This was none other than the great Valkyrie herself!

Hou Min instinctively sought help, his gaze turning to Chen Gu, who smiled and nodded at him, "Report our investigation findings to the Director-General. Don't be nervous; Her Excellency is very approachable."

I don't even believe my own words, Chen Gu thought, but if it can comfort Hou Min, that's all that matters.

Chen Gu's words indeed had an effect; Hou Min visibly grew more at ease—how could he know of the friction between Chen Gu and Aviloya? In his eyes, Chen Gu was already a big shot, and big shots surely wouldn't deceive him.

"This incident... its-its origin seems to be... a group of retired warriors from a few years ago..." Hou Min began hesitantly but gradually grew more fluent. His fingers moved, presenting docunts to everyone. "Zhou Beihong, rank: Corporal. Served for seven years. Participated in six major offensives against the Alien Insect Race, including two planetary surface engagents."

"We suspect that he was parasitized by Insect eggs during these two battles. These eggs must be from an entirely new species, capable of evading the full-body scans conducted during our veterans' discharge examinations."

"Corporal Zhou Beihong is deceased. He was replaced by an iron-thread worm."

"Our investigation revealed that, aside from the Ofra raw materials from the Songshan Garnt Factory, they also covertly stole other high-tech raw materials. These were used for evolutionary samples of the giant spider Insects."
