The reason it was called a student council was simple: it was an organization made up entirely of students, vested with a certain degree of authority. And generally speaking, only those who excelled both academically and in character were eligible to join.
In most schools, a student council rely held limited authority—enough to coordinate and manage student affairs across campus.
But Kuoh Academy's student council was on an entirely different level.
They didn't just oversee the students—they governed the entire school, teachers included. Yes, even faculty mbers fell under their jurisdiction. In fact, even the appointnt of Kuoh Academy's principal could be decided with a single word from them.
The reason for that was simple: the academy itself had been established by devils from the Underworld.
"As the student council president of Kuoh Academy, creating a new position within the council is naturally within my authority," Sona said calmly.
"Whether it's rely an advisory teaching role—or even if Ren-sensei wished to beco the principal—that would pose no issue whatsoever."
She adjusted her glasses slightly, her tone steady but her offer escalating dramatically.
"And if Ren-sensei is willing to assist the student council, I can even grant you a portion of the Sitri family's territory in the Underworld as compensation."
The landmass of the Underworld far exceeded that of the human world. And as noble houses among the Seventy-Two Pillars, both the Gremory and Sitri families were, quite literally, major landowners.
Not to ntion that as heirs, Rias and Sona already possessed vast territories of their own. Even their peerage mbers—like Akeno—had been granted considerable land after becoming their servants.
In other words, neither Rias nor Sona was lacking in wealth.
And at this mont, the stakes they were offering only continued to rise.
"Sona, you haven't had much interaction with Ren-sensei, have you?" Rias said, crossing her arms with a confident smile.
"In comparison, I'm clearly more familiar with him. And one of my peerage mbers, Issei Hyoudou, seems to have quite a good relationship with Ren-sensei as well. If we're talking about personal connections, you don't stand a chance."
Truth be told, while Ren had indeed t Rias before Sona, "close relationship" was… a bit of an exaggeration.
And Sona clearly knew that.
Adjusting her rimless glasses again, she smiled coolly.
"From what I understand, Rias, you've only t Ren-sensei twice. The first ti, you even mistook him for an enemy."
She tilted her head slightly.
"So I would say our starting points are roughly the sa, wouldn't you?"
Just as the two beautiful young won—friends and rivals alike—were on the verge of openly clashing, a black-haired girl with long straight hair and glasses stepped forward from behind Sona.
"President, I don't think there's any need to argue further," Tsubaki Shinra said calmly.
"Ren-sensei has already left."
The two who had been locked in a standoff both turned at once toward where Ren had been standing.
Sure enough—he was gone.
"Sona-sama, why didn't you tell he left?" Sona asked, her composure slipping just a little.
Tsubaki bowed her head slightly.
"Because you instructed us not to interrupt while you were speaking."
On the other side, Rias turned to Akeno with an equally displeased expression.
"And you? Why didn't you say anything?"
Akeno smiled sweetly, her answer far more straightforward.
"Because it's rare to see you like this, Rias. I found it rather entertaining… so I forgot."
Yes—Hijima Akeno had a sadistic streak.
And most people had absolutely no idea.
With the object of their competition gone, continuing to argue felt pointless. Rias and Sona both huffed lightly and turned away in opposite directions.
But the determination burning in their eyes made one thing clear:
This battle to recruit Ren Kuroda was far from over.
—
anwhile, the man at the center of it all—utterly drained in both body and spirit—had already made his way to the elentary division to pick up Kunou, who had been waiting for quite so ti.
The little girl, a nine-tailed fox yokai, had an exceptionally keen sense of sll. The mont she caught a faint trace of feminine fragrance lingering on Ren, she glanced up at his exhausted expression—
And imdiately looked at him with pure disdain.
"Uncle… you didn't do anything inappropriate with your female students, did you?"
She crossed her arms, nodding seriously despite her small stature.
"I may be young, but I know there's a special word for people like that."
Her eyes narrowed.
"It's called pervert."
Compared to her life in Kyoto—spent mostly within the shrine—Kunou clearly preferred her current lifestyle.
At first, she would often talk about her mother, Yasaka. But after making new friends and becoming completely absorbed in manga and video gas…
She had essentially evolved into a full-fledged shut-in little gremlin.
"I told you to stop playing those weird gas," Ren shot back, flicking her forehead lightly. "Where are you even learning this stuff?"
"And for the record—I didn't lay a finger on any students. I'm not a pervert. If anything, I only beca a teacher because of your mother's ss!"
He narrowed his eyes at her.
"And if you go around spreading nonsense, I'll tell all the yokai back in Kyoto about your bedwetting incidents."
At that, Kunou instantly clamped both hands over her mouth and mid zipping it shut, nodding furiously to show she wouldn't say another word.
By the ti they returned to their rented apartnt, however, both of them froze.
Standing at the entrance was a stunning blonde woman, her figure graceful and alluring, dressed in an elegant, high-class kimono.
Her golden hair shimred like sunlight, and her presence alone carried an overwhelming aura of nobility.
When she saw Ren holding Kunou's hand, a gentle, captivating smile spread across her face.
"It seems you and Kunou are getting along quite well, Brother," she said warmly.
"I was worried she might cause you trouble."
There was no mistaking it.
The woman before them was Yasaka—the supre commander of Kyoto's yokai, the Nine-Tailed Fox.
Behind her stood two tengu yokai, clearly acting as her guards. Judging by their posture, Yasaka had already been waiting here for quite so ti.
After entering the apartnt, Yasaka first indulged in a brief mont of affection with Kunou, gently stroking her head and holding her close.
Then she began to examine the interior of the room.
It didn't take long before her delicate brows knit together.
In truth, the mont she arrived from Kyoto, she had co straight to the address Ren had given her.
As a great yokai whose strength rivaled that of Demon Kings and Dragon Kings, a simple wooden door was no obstacle to her.
But she had refrained.
This was her brother's residence—entering without permission would have been improper.
So, ignoring her guards' attempts to dissuade her, she had chosen to wait outside until Ren returned.
And now, seeing the modest conditions inside—
She couldn't hide her displeasure.
Or her guilt.
"Kunou aside… you are one of the strongest among all yokai, Brother. And yet you've been living in a place like this all this ti?"
At first, Ren didn't quite understand why she looked upset. But once he heard her words, he could only let out a helpless smile.
"You know I only broke free from that seal not too long ago," he said, scratching his cheek.
"My finances are… a bit tight. Besides, it's just and Kunou. This place is more than enough."
"That simply won't do!"
Yasaka's expression turned resolute, her voice firm with self-reproach.
"This is my failure."
"I assud that soone of your strength would have no shortage of worldly wealth. That was my mistake."
She straightened, her golden eyes filled with determination.
"I will imdiately arrange a residence befitting your status. Please rest assured, Brother."
