Honestly, Song Zijian had a very compelling reason to look at Sian that way—at least from his perspective.
Song Zijian had been working tirelessly to enter the Xia family. He had ticulously planned everything, yet he always seed to miss the right opportunity. He only needed one chance. As long as the Xia family saw him and recognized what he possessed, they would imdiately identify him as the long-lost youngest son of the family.
In his latest investigation, he discovered that the Xia family was very close to the Lan family. The two families had maintained a strong relationship for years. He had been contemplating how to use this to his advantage, thinking that approaching the Lan family first might be easier. If he could win their favor, he could then et the Xia family through them, making his story more believable.
But who would have thought that bastard already knew the Lan family? Didn’t this an he would inevitably et the Xia family sooner or later?
How could this happen? He had seen that man before, standing beside Sian multiple tis, but he always assud he was just so lowly soldier, a useless nobody unworthy of his attention. How had that man suddenly beco the most powerful CEO in the country?
Why? Why was his luck so miserable? Nothing ever went his way. Nothing. (Maybe because you deserve it? Just saying.)
And so, Song Zijian continued to glare at Sian, imagining countless ways to kill him. If not for the last shred of rationality in his mind—reminding him that this was not the ti to stir trouble with so many witnesses around—he would have taken a knife and plunged it straight into Sian’s heart, ending this pest’s existence once and for all.
After everyone had finished their al, they each went their separate ways, and the crowd dispersed.
Song Zijian took a step toward Sian and the man called Lan, then suddenly stopped. He wasn’t a fool. He had long noticed the interactions between the two and how Lan Qisheng was always protecting Sian. It was obvious—trying to get close to the man and seducing him wouldn’t work. (Finally, so intelligence.)
After careful consideration, Song Zijian decided to proceed with his original plan—getting rid of Sian once and for all.
"Sian, if you want to bla soone for your imminent death, you have no one to bla but yourself. I gave you countless chances, yet you wasted them all," he muttered under his breath, his voice dripping with malice before disappearing into the shadows. No one knew where he had gone.
anwhile, Sian was too preoccupied with his frustration toward a certain soone—soone who had decided not to return to work and instead insisted on sticking to him under the pretense of participating in the show as a ’special guest.’ This was, of course, a request from the director, and being the kind and considerate person he was, Lan Qisheng had reluctantly agreed to the director’s pleas.
"You angel," Sian scoffed. "Didn’t I tell you to go back to work, you idiot? Just wait."
As Sian fud, Lan Qisheng stood there, looking innocent with his head slightly lowered in an obvious display of acknowledging his ’mistake.’
Jiao Liangchen, on the other hand, stood quietly beside them, observing their interaction in silence.
"Give that," Sian extended his hand.
Lan Qisheng raised his hand as well, taking Sian’s hand in both of his own in a doting manner.
Sian, however, slapped his hand away with enough force to leave it red. "Cut the cute act and give your phone, now."
Once Sian had the phone, he effortlessly unlocked it with his fingerprint and dialed a number.
"Hello, Grandpa."
"Yes, I’m fine. Thank you."
"Mm-hmm, I’m calling from your grandson’s phone. He ran away from work and refuses to return no matter what I say, so I thought I’d call you."
Sian held the phone in his hand, falling into a long silence as the person on the other end spoke for quite so ti, saying sothing unknown.
Then, a sigh escaped Sian’s lips, followed by a single word:
"Hah?"
Once again, he said nothing. He simply listened as Grandfather Lan continued speaking.
Whatever the old man was saying must have been serious—perhaps even sothing grave—because Sian’s expression...
Sian’s expression froze.
Lan Qisheng, who had been watching the situation unfold, imdiately beca serious.
He could always tell when Sian was rely annoyed and when he was truly angry. Earlier, Sian had only been trying to scare him by calling his grandfather to force him back to work. But now... he wasn’t sure what the old man on the other end of the line had said, but it was enough to make Sian’s expression turn deadly serious. Even Lan Qisheng could feel the chilling air surrounding Sian. His aura was leaking again.
After a long silence, Sian finally spoke.
"Yes... Yes, I understand, Grandpa. Thank you. I’ll be careful."
"I’ll give him the phone now. Goodbye."
Sian then silently handed the phone back to Lan Qisheng.
Lan Qisheng took the phone and stepped away slightly, his expression turning serious and focused. He no longer looked like the sa person who had been acting cowardly and playfully adorable in front of Sian.
If Lan Qisheng’s team were present, they would have imdiately recognized this side of him—the dependable leader to whom they had entrusted their lives, the man they followed without a shred of doubt or fear.
Truth be told, when away from Sian and free from his love-struck mind, Lan Qisheng was a highly reliable and competent leader. In fact, just last night, knowing he wanted to visit his beloved, he had completed three days’ worth of work in advance. Even the eting he was supposed to attend today—the one he had asked his subordinates to cancel—he had managed to attend. Moreover, he had rescheduled tomorrow’s eting to take place via live video call at night, ensuring everything was settled before boarding his flight.
So yes, Colonel Lan Qisheng was indeed a diligent and efficient worker—at least when his brain was functioning properly and wasn’t clouded by Sian’s presence. Otherwise, he would be too distracted by his beloved to care about the world or anyone in it.
After handing the phone to Lan Qisheng, Sian sat down on a chair in the corner of the garden, lost in thoughts known only to him. However, it was clear that whatever he was thinking about had deeply unsettled him.
