Sian lay motionless, wrapped in a deep shroud of unconsciousness. The air around him was thick with tension as the hospital staff rushed in, their footsteps echoing off the chilly walls of the room. Lights flashed overhead, illuminating his pale face with an otherworldly glow as the doctor leaned over him, eyes sweeping Sian’s face with a practiced intensity. After careful scrutiny, the face of the doctor shifted to that of worry and he quickly recognized Sian’s condition. In swift accuracy, he administered him a sedative, the cold liquid passing through Sian’s veins, soothing the upheaval slowly in him.

Sian finally succumbed to deep, peaceful sleep, his body loosening up as the upheaval vanished.

Lan Qisheng took Sian to his room, put him on the bed gently, and pulled the covers over him before quietly exiting and closing the door.

Back in the living room, Lan Qisheng found everyone waiting in silence. The mont he walked in, everyone’s eyes were on him.

"Is he alright?" Mother Xia asked, her face full of worry.

"He will be alright," Lan Qisheng reassured her. "This is not the first panic attack for Sian. Maybe it’s about his history or so tragic mory."

"Sian...," whispered Mother Xia. "Is there any family or relatives he has?"

"Mom, I’ve told you before—hew’s not our missing brother. There’s no way that he is. Stop, please." Ziming couldn’t help but crush his mother’s hopes. She would always chase anyone who resembled her missing son or had white hair whenever she spotted such a person. Her ntal state had been unstable for many years since their younger brother was abducted, but after receiving treatnt, she had recovered a lot.

But today, for so unknown reason, she had gone back to her normal self, claiming Sian was her child.

"What do you know?" Mother Xia spoke in a trembling voice. "It’s him. He is your brother—I’m sure this ti. I am not confused, believe !" She turned to Father Xia, sitting quietly beside her. "Dear, you believe , don’t you? You have to! He’s our son, our good-looking boy, our cherished child. He even called ’Mom’... He was so suffering. I do not know what he has gone through, what sort of suffering our poor boy endured all these years. We are guilty... We did not protect him enough when he was small, we have failed. We have to take him ho and make it right this ti."

Father Xia looked at his wife and let out a soft breath. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe her, but so much ti had passed—years and years of tornt guessing with no shred of evidence.

And the kidnapper... He’d confessed to killing the child. Even though no one was ever found, the chances of their son still being alive were small—nearly zero.

But when he saw Sian crumple in pain, an inexplicable emotion stirred within him. For no reason at all, a pang was felt in his chest.

He was not alone. The twin brothers also felt the sa unusual emotion, although Ziming, the idiot, misconstrued it as anger and resentnt towards Sian.

"I don’t know much about Sian’s personal life," Lan Qisheng admitted. "I never inquired. But his health is not good, especially after what he went through in the terrorist attack in the forest. That’s why... Sorry, Uncle and Aunt, but I hope you won’t disturb him anymore. He needs rest."

Everyone understood that Lan Qisheng was politely discouraging them from doing sothing unnecessary. Everyone knew he was very close to this boy.

Father Xia finally consented, and with a simple apology, he bid his family farewell. Mother Xia would not leave "her son," but with her family’s insistence, she had no choice but to be pulled away.

But when they got to the Xia household, a fierce argunt broke out. It was not a physical fight, but a strong exchange of words that left everyone tense and irritated.

Mother Xia insisted on verifying Sian’s identity by ans of a DNA test.

Father Xia would not agree, recalling Lan Qisheng’s caution against getting close to the boy.

anwhile, Ziming went on barking that Sian would never be his brother, while the older brother, Weilian, remained impartial, trying to stop everyone from taking things further.

And of course, the Black Lotus**—always appearing so well-behaved and obedient—tossed oil on the fire here and there with so carefully chosen inflammatory words.

At the sa ti, at Lan Qisheng’s residence, he went into his room softly and found Sian sleeping. The sedative had been quite strong due to his condition, so it was likely the teenager would not awaken until morning.

Lan Qisheng was not even hungry. He did not even take dinner. He simply lay down beside Sian and gently rubbed his belly.

He rembered how much Sian loved food, how he never skipped a al. A flood of sadness washed over him when he recognized the boy hadn’t eaten anything today.

As night fell, Lan Qisheng couldn’t help but be fixated on Sian. Shadows danced in the room, cast by the leaping beam of the moonlight coming through the window, highlighting the soft contours of Sian’s face as she slept soundly in a deep and restful sleep. The silence of the night wrapped around them like a blanket, and with thoughts racing in his mind, Lan stood guard, his heart filled with a mix of concern and affection. He was enchanted by the silky caress of Sian’s delicate eyelashes with each breath, and the soft inflation and deflation of his chest that gave him a sense of calm in the midst of turmoil within his mind. Ti had no significance, and as he sat watch over him, he was struck with the severity of his feelings, and how much this mont ant to him.
