Chapter 844: Chapter 844 Cross-Examination_1
The court hearing day arrived in the blink of an eye.
What was initially just an ordinary murder case gained imnse attention online due to the victim’s head being found in a villa owned by the president.
The courthouse was thronged with reporters, and a rush of entry would inevitably cause chaos; therefore, the number of seats permitted for public hearing was extrely limited.
The driver brought the car to a steady stop, and Purple Sumrs escorted Autumn Carter out.
Autumn’s little face was serious and focused, clutching a thick stack of docunts, effectively her big sister’s little assistant.
“Tired? Let carry it,” Purple Sumrs said.
Autumn Carter shook her head and nervously looked up to ask, “Purple Sumrs sister, can I really attend the hearing?”
“Of course, minors over ten years old can attend, provided they get the court’s approval, and since the party involved is your dad, you can certainly go in.” Purple Sumrs patted her head, “But once you’re in, you can’t eat lollipops. Can you hold back?”
Seriousness shattered instantly from Autumn Carter’s face as she widened her eyes, “I’m not a little kid!”
“Hahaha…” Purple Sumrs laughed.
As they approached the courtroom doors, the swarming reporters spotted Purple Sumrs, and they all surged towards her! Countless caras pointed at her, with an array of microphones thrust forward—
Purple Sumrs’s bodyguard positioned himself in front and behind her and Autumn Carter, keeping the reporters from getting too close, yet the barrage of crazed questions was relentless.
“Ms. Sumrs! Why did Edward Carter suddenly appoint you as his defense attorney after pleading guilty? Did you reach so sort of private agreent?”
“Do you feel confident about today’s hearing? Do you believe you are more capable of handling this case than Mr. Rieste?”
“Ms. Sumrs, are you aware of the duties of a criminal defense attorney?”
“Ms. Sumrs! Please, Ms. Sumrs, tell us…”
The ten-year-old Autumn Carter had never witnessed such a scenario and bit her lip tightly, firmly holding onto Purple Sumrs’s hand.
Finally, upon entering the courtroom and the door sealed off the outer commotion, the pair—tall and small—let out a sigh of relief.
However, Purple Sumrs had barely relaxed when she saw several people ahead, freezing in her tracks, “You guys…”
On one side of the spectator seats, seated in a row were Aria Jackson, Marcel Jefferson, Larissa Hamilton, Zara Jason, Ryan Wesley, Gerald Graves, Gavin Graves… All her friends were present, except for Jane McCain, who was abroad.
After an initial shock, Purple Sumrs’s eyes reddened in an instant.
“When have I ever seen you so sentintal?” Aria Jackson walked over with a smile and gently embraced her, patting her back, “Now’s not the ti for tears.”
“Elr Rivera also wanted to co, but he’s been tied up with several cases lately and couldn’t get away. He told to let you know, if you lose, forget about being his assistant after graduation,” Marcel Jefferson said.
Purple Sumrs laughed through her tears, “He wishes!”
Everyone laughed together.
The reunion was brief as the judge and jury started entering the courtroom. Before the session began, Aria Jackson whispered in Purple Sumrs’s ear, “It was Young Master Graves who brought us here.”
Purple Sumrs looked at Gavin Graves in surprise.
eting Purple Sumrs’s gaze, Gavin Graves gave an almost imperceptible nod, his deep and restrained eyes faintly smiling, brimming with gentle warmth.
Purple Sumrs had no ti for further questions, as Edward Carter had already been brought to the defendant’s bench, and she needed to prepare for the session.
All Purple Sumrs could do was give Gavin Graves a grateful smile and hurriedly make her way to the defense bench.
Sitting next to Gavin Graves, Second Young Master Graves expressed his worry, “How is Ms. Sumrs going to fight this case? The prosecution has an eyewitness.”
With a light laugh, Aria Jackson nearby retorted, “Then you surely haven’t seen her cross-examine.”
Gerald Graves looked puzzled and turned to find Marcel Jefferson, “What is cross-examination?”
“Well…” Marcel Jefferson hesitated.
Unsure of how to use language to make Second Young Master Graves understand, and noticing that the prosecutor’s party was also assembled, he hurriedly took out a notebook and pen to prepare for note-taking, adding, “Second Young Master, you’ll soon understand what cross-examination is.”
