Chapter 675: Chapter 675 Legal Aid_1
A sex worker trying to accuse a wealthy young master of rape…
No wonder the law firms in Kingsley wouldn’t pay attention to her; they must see her as a swindler.
This woman nad Lindsay Carpenter likely knows she doesn’t stand much of a chance. So, while she’s clamoring to sue, she doesn’t take any substantial action. All talk and no walk, who is she trying to scare?
Purple Sumrs felt even more perplexed.
What kind of conspiracy or trick is this?
—Finding a bizarre case to give her a hard ti? She could simply refuse to take it. After all, she’s not a lawyer, and she has every right to reject it. Even if so unpleasant rumors spread, it wouldn’t really ache or itch—she wouldn’t be hurt at all!
Purple Sumrs racked her brains but couldn’t figure out the other party’s intentions.
This was truly troubling.
She called Allen Rivera, “…Could you help check on a case? It’s a legal aid case, and the plaintiff’s na is Lindsay Carpenter. The departnt in charge should be the Kingsley City Prosecutor’s Office.”
Allen Rivera asked in surprise, “Why, have you and Mr. Jefferson taken on a legal aid case?”
—Legal aid refers to a protective system where the state’s legal aid agency provides free legal services to people who are financially challenged or have special cases. It is also a social welfare cause aid at helping the impoverished and safeguarding the legal rights of the weaker groups in society.
To put it more plainly, it ans receiving legal services for free, without having to pay a penny.
However, there are so many people in the world in need of legal services that to broaden the coverage of legal aid, the state requires each law firm to undertake a certain number of legal aid cases voluntarily each year. As a result, law firms receive tax relief benefits.
Nobody is a fool—if you’re working for free, you’ll naturally pick the easier cases.
Law firms usually choose the lawsuits that are easy to win. They would never waste ti on a case like Lindsay Carpenter’s, which is clearly destined to lose.
Purple Sumrs didn’t go into detail but briefly explained to Allen Rivera, “She’s been coming to the school these past few days, blocking , asking to represent her in court, but she can’t explain the situation clearly, so I thought I’d ask you to check, to see what’s really going on.”
As the judicial institutions’ internal network is interconnected, Allen Rivera quickly found Lindsay Carpenter’s case.
He said, “Back in May this year, Leon Brown invited so friends over to a private villa for fun and called so girls over to liven up the party. Lindsay Carpenter was one of them. She got injured at that event, and later she claid she was raped. Leon insists it was a voluntary transaction. The case is hard to judge, and the possibility of extortion is high. Although she applied for legal aid, no one has inquired about it so far. You better not get involved.”
Purple Sumrs was surprised, “You haven’t left work yet?”
Allen Rivera must still be at the Prosecutor’s Office; otherwise, he wouldn’t have obtained the information so quickly.
Purple Sumrs glanced at the ti… Yep, truly a prosecutor passionate about his work.
“How’s your reading going? Are you confident about the judicial examination this ti?” Allen Rivera shifted the conversation abruptly, inquiring about her study progress, “Maybe the other party’s intention is to disrupt you, to make you underperform on the exam. You have the brains and capability, don’t waste your ti on such matters.”
The tone of his last sentence sounded like that of her teacher, sternly advising her.
Purple Sumrs both laughed and cried, saying, “Don’t worry, she can’t disturb ! I just want to understand her motives.”
“You’re focusing all your energy on her, thinking about what her motives are every day. How can you prepare for the exam?” Allen Rivera continued, “If you miss it this October, you’ll have to wait another year. You need to prioritize.”
Purple Sumrs was surprised; why did Allen Rivera seem to take the exam more seriously than she did?
“Look here, Prosecutor Allen Rivera…” Purple Sumrs conjectured, “you wouldn’t be thinking of… getting to pass the exam quickly and co work as your assistant, would you?”
Allen Rivera said, “Yes.”
