Chapter 1299: Chapter 1299
The four people were all puzzled, not understanding why Allen Rivera suddenly called them over, or the purpose of his questions.
However, seeing Jane McCain’s unpleasant expression, they could guess it was perhaps related to her, and sensibly refrained from asking further.
Once they all left and the door was shut again, Jane couldn’t help but ask Allen, “Could it be soone else? Room 305, 307, and 310 on this floor of the dorm all have people living in them…but why?…Did I offend anyone?”
“Don’t be afraid, nothing will happen.” Allen comforted her.
But his tone was light, as if he were pondering sothing, sowhat absent-minded.
“The buses seem to require real na registration now, and your docunts are damaged, so you can’t take the bus…” He mused for a mont, then said, “I need to lead a team into the mountains this afternoon, so I’ll arrange for soone to take you ho first. Call when you get ho, and you need to quickly replace your ID card and bank card.”
Allen took so cash and a credit card from his wallet and put them into Jane’s wallet.
“Use mine for now, until you get yours replaced,” he said.
Jane pressed her lips together, held his hand, and gently shook her head.
She still looked extrely frightened.
Allen recalled Jane’s condition and roughly guessed that she was unwilling to ride in a stranger’s car.
She was inherently very fearful of the opposite sex. Initially, she could ride in Ray Cooper’s car because Ray was his assistant, and she trusted him.
With such an incident happening now, Jane’s symptoms were only worsening. Like a startled cat, suspicious and ready to lash out, how could she willingly ride with an unfamiliar man?
…What about finding a female driver for her?
At this critical mont, where could he find a trustworthy female officer without any imdiate tasks?
Allen thought for a bit and asked her, “I’ll have Fiona Lake co over to accompany you this afternoon. I’ll be busy for another two days at most, then I can go back to Clearwater with you, okay?”
Jane nodded.
That was an agreent.
Allen looked at her restless manner, feeling sorry for her, feeling pity, yet at the sa ti finding her endearing and touching.
As a man, perhaps he also couldn’t help but enjoy the feeling of being wholly depended upon by a woman he adored.
He pulled her into his arms, gently stroking the long hair on her back, murmuring, “I should know who it is. But with the investigation being urgent now, I can’t spare any ti… At most, wait two more days, and I’ll take care of it.”
Jane’s heart clenched a little at his words, “Who is it?”
Allen was silent for a mont, seemingly concerned and didn’t speak directly, “I’ll tell you when I get back. It’s a bit complicated to explain right now.”
Jane didn’t ask anymore.
When the incident first occurred, Allen clearly didn’t know the identity of the person involved. Yet after questioning the four assistants, he claid to know who it was. The answer clearly lay with one of them.
But, why wouldn’t he say?
Is it because there’s no evidence, or because it would affect this case? Or could there be other…even more unknown reasons?
Jane felt a gnawing unease in her heart.
She tried to control herself, attempting to adjust her emotions.
She knew her own issues: she instinctively imagines the worst possibilities.
The more she thought, the more frightened she beca, scaring herself more and more. Her doctor calls this psychological suggestion, suggesting non-existent crises, which keeps her living in fear, ultimately leading to severe heterophobia, so degree of social anxiety disorder, and considerable paranoia, among other issues.
Jane tried to think positively.
For instance, the person who ca in didn’t harm her but only destroyed her bank card and identity docunts, then pinched her.
She didn’t lose any money or suffer physical harm.
This seed like a prank…
If it was really just a prank, why would Allen hesitate to ntion the person’s na?
…Alright, alright, she was back to square one, spreading negative thoughts again.
So, among those four people, who was lying?
