The morning’s tenderness faded away, yet the warmth remained.
Allen Rivera let go of her, took out a towel from his luggage bag, and spread it on the bed to temporarily solve the problem of poor bedsheet quality.
As for the blanket, it couldn’t be used. Luckily, the dormitory had heating, so it wasn’t too cold. One could use a coat as a substitute for a blanket while sleeping.
Jane McCain climbed back into bed for a quick nap.
"Today will be very busy, I might not be able to take you back to Clearwater," Allen Rivera said. "Is your work busy over there? If not, stay here, and once I’m done here, we’ll go back together."
Jane lay sideways and shook her head: "No need to take , I can take the bus back myself. You’re here for work; it wouldn’t look good if people saw your girlfriend clinging to you every day."
Allen considered it for a mont, then agreed by nodding, "I’ll see you to the bus station after my eting."
"Rember to unwrap the gift," Jane blinked, reminding him, "today is Christmas."
Allen smiled, picked up the gift bag, and left for the eting.
Jane watched the dorm room door close and turned over in bed with peace of mind to sleep.
Covered with his coat, she could vaguely sll his scent – clean and fresh, mixed with a faint fragrance of toiletries.
Her heart floated with subtle joy, recalling the previous scene, her heart fluttered like a deer, growing sweeter the more she thought about it.
Maybe her mind was filled entirely with him, so much so that even as Jane slept, she seed to dream of Allen finishing his eting and returning, mischievously squeezing her body as he opened the dorm room door.
Around ten o’clock, Jane finally slept enough.
She got up energized, dressed, washed, styled her hair, and maintained her skin.
Applying toner, she gently tapped her face with her fingertips, which unexpectedly reminded her of that dream.
The image of Jane in the mirror chuckled aloud.
It was truly amusing.
That dream was too strange; the real Allen Rivera wouldn’t do anything so sensational.
Even if such thoughts arose, he would seriously ask her if it was okay; that’s just the kind of person he is...
Just as she was thinking of him, he returned.
Allen Rivera opened the door and walked in, sowhat surprising Jane, who thought he would co back later.
"Did the eting finish so quickly?"
"Yes." Allen nodded slightly, then poured himself a glass of water and said calmly, "The results from the inspection departnt ca out. It was a short-tailed macaque, agile, approximately 50 centiters in body length. Such monkeys are common in the forest areas near Wellville Town."
Jane was surprised: "How did a monkey get into town?"
"These macaques are adaptable, easy to dosticate and breed. The monkey that intruded last night probably underwent special training," Allen explained. "Arrangents have already been made to check around the village. As long as we find out who kept a monkey, we can basically pinpoint the suspect."
Unfamiliar with the specifics of the case, Jane could only infer from Allen’s tone that solving the case seed imminent.
"Once the case is solved, you won’t need to be here anymore, right?" Jane asked. The long-distance aspect affected their relationship.
"It’s not that simple." Allen laughed, patting her head, "We’ve just established a direction; the thod by which it was executed remains unsolved.
The village rumors say the ghostly face appearing at midnight is a mountain spirit. Whichever household it chooses will suffer bad luck, and a few days later, soone from that house will indeed be attacked by a predator on the mountain road.
We’ve confird this so-called Mountain Spirit is a monkey, but how the monkey directs a predator to attack a specific person is still a mystery. Even if we find the suspect, we need evidence to bring them to justice."
"Oh..." Jane said with a hint of disappointnt, feeling that Allen might still be occupied for a long ti.
"You should pay attention to safety over here," she advised.
Allen chuckled, "Let’s go, I’ll take you to the bus station."
Jane got up to take her bag but paused in action, "...Huh?"
