The next day, Allen Rivera imdiately dispatched two officers, one to investigate the person who reported finding the victim, and another to gather information about that chat group.
The chat group was established ten years ago, and given the long passage of ti, it’s impossible to review all the chat logs. However, recent records can be obtained through the internet monitoring departnt.
The findings were astonishing.
Sydney Bennett indeed joined a group called “Rose Date”, but this group was forcibly disbanded after reports due to violations such as arranging casual hookups, one-night stands, sexual trades, and the spreading of obscene videos.
It is hard to imagine that soone as seemingly calm and ordinary as Sydney Bennett would be interested in such a chat group.
Further investigation revealed that before the group’s disbandnt, there had been a murder within the group—about six months ago, a young female mber was killed by another male mber, who was subsequently sentenced to death. Although he consistently claid he did not commit the murder, the evidence was overwhelming, resulting in his multiple appeals being rejected by the court.
So far, there has been no indication that this chat group is related to the Black Rose case.
However, Allen Rivera had a gut feeling that if they continued to dig, they would uncover sothing unexpected.
Allen Rivera furrowed his brow as he went through the docunts in his office.
The attorney general walked in, tapping his fingers lightly on the desk, and asked, “Any progress on linda Johnson’s case?”
“We found that linda Johnson had a boyfriend two years her senior who works at an auto repair shop out of town. He was out of town at the ti of the cri, and I’m having soone verify his alibi,” Allen said, glancing at his watch. “Also, I have a eting with linda Johnson’s parents in ten minutes, they should be here soon.”
“Resolve it quickly to prevent the public opinion from spreading,” said the attorney general.
“Yes, I will expedite the process,” Allen replied.
The attorney general nodded in satisfaction, and as he was leaving, he noticed the docunts on Allen’s desk and frowned slightly, “Why are you looking into the Black Rose case?”
“I found another case that might be related to Black Rose, and I want to dig deeper,” Allen responded.
The attorney general picked up the stack of docunts and skimd through them, his frown deepening, “This person has already been sentenced, the evidence was solid with no doubts.”
“Yes,” Allen nodded, “No suspicious findings for now.”
His use of “for now” implied he hadn’t given up yet.
The attorney general looked up at the stern-faced Allen, understanding his subordinate’s character, and earnestly advised, “Thoroughness in work is good, but don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. A 17-year-old girl dying at ho along with her unborn child is the priority now. The Black Rose case has been on hold for years, a few more days won’t make a difference.”
“I understand, attorney general,” Allen replied.
The attorney general nodded and left the office.
The other colleagues in the office, who had been working diligently, looked up at Allen once the attorney general had left.
“Allen, are you really investigating the Black Rose case? Any new clues?”
Allen’s poker face remained unchanged, “Not yet.”
His assistant ca in, followed by a middle-aged couple around forty, who looked weary with red-rimd eyes, though their clothes were clean and decent, indicating they were likely well-off, typical middle-class representatives.
“Prosecutor Allen Rivera, linda Johnson’s parents are here.”
Allen stood up and shook hands with them, “Hello, let’s talk in the lounge.”
