Chapter 1094: Chapter 1094: Getting Distracted_1

Victoria Morrison ca back to her senses and followed Purple Sumrs to the front.

In the courthouse, smoking was basically banned throughout the entire building, with the exception of personal offices and the ergency exit hallways only.

Alongside the hallway, there was a window. Leaning against it, Victoria Morrison pulled out a lighter and lit a cigarette for herself.

Purple Sumrs couldn’t help but say, “You smoke too?”

“Yes, my husband is a heavy smoker, and after being around him for a few years, I started smoking as well,” Victoria Morrison said faintly. Amidst the curling smoke, the lines at the corners of her eyes seed even more desolate.

With this topic brought up, Purple Sumrs didn’t feel it appropriate to say anything, so she fell silent.

At that mont, Victoria Morrison asked her, “Are you confident about your closing argunts?”

Purple Sumrs nodded slightly.

Victoria Morrison looked out the window and said nothing more.

Just as Purple Sumrs was about to leave, Victoria Morrison seed as if she had sothing to say to her, turning her head towards her.

Purple Sumrs stopped in her tracks, puzzlent showing in her eyes.

Victoria Morrison quietly looked at her and suddenly gave a faint smile, “Never mind, we’ll talk after you win the case. Go get ready.”

Purple Sumrs stood hesitantly for a mont, then nodded and left the hallway.

In the hallway, only Victoria Morrison remained. She blew a cloud of smoke out the window, murmuring to herself, “I hope I’m wrong…”

The closing argunts began with the prosecution.

“How difficult is it to bring a criminal to justice? We need eyewitness testimony, physical evidence, motive, and everything that can be reasonably explained—it’s very hard! Fortunately, in this case, we have it all.”

The prosecutor looked at the jury, his voice rising and falling with emphasis, “The cause and effect are very clear, every piece of physical evidence points to the defendant! Everything laid out before us is telling us one thing—that is, the defendant harbored resentnt against the victim, followed them from the subway into a deserted alley, and carried out the assault!

To cover up his cri, he even fabricated a non-existent person, a tall man? No, from beginning to end there never was such a person. The victim didn’t see any tall man, the police didn’t see one, and there is no other evidence to support his claim.

The lies fabricated by the defendant are a desecration of this court and an insult to your intelligence! It’s a mockery! Do you believe him? I truly hope you will think it over.”

The prosecutor concluded his statent and returned to his seat.

After waiting quite a while, seeing no response from the defense, he looked around quizzically.

Purple Sumrs snapped back to reality, realizing she had lost focus.

She had actually lost focus during the court hearing.

Purple Sumrs quickly stood up, adjusted her mood, and temporarily set aside the strange feeling that had been swirling in her mind.

“Defendant Norton Young, why was he arrested? Because of Ms. Stone’s accusation. But ladies and gentlen, have you ever considered whether the person Ms. Stone accused is truly the one who assaulted her?”

Purple Sumrs posed the question to the jury, sweeping her gaze over them, and said solemnly, “No, she accused the person who was arrested by the police. Ms. Stone was the victim of a physical attack; she was extrely panicked and scared. When the police notified her to identify the perpetrator, she saw soone who resembled the criminal in appearance, ‘a bespectacled fat man’, and most importantly, this person’s hands were already in handcuffs. The bad guy was caught, she felt safe, so she identified this person as the criminal!

But rember, the victim really didn’t see the criminal’s face clearly! Maybe she did catch a glimpse, but she didn’t see clearly! We all have this ntality, why can’t we admit it? When we see a greasy man wearing glasses on the street, we don’t give a second glance, and Ms. Stone felt the sa way! She looked down on these kinds of people from the bottom of her heart.

It wasn’t until the other party took out a knife and pressed it against her stomach that she got scared. She was terrified, concentrating on the knife; how could she dare to look directly at the criminal’s face?”
