Chapter 999: Chapter 999 Visiting the Prison_1 Chapter 999: Chapter 999 Visiting the Prison_1 On Friday, Purple Sumrs arrived in Clearwater City by plane.

Without going ho, she went straight to the detention center to et with Allen Rivera, and then they went to see Jane McCain together.

Having been detained for several days, Jane was extrely listless, barely managing to squeeze out a smile when she saw Purple.

“I know what you want to ask,” Jane said with a bitter smile, “I swear, I really tried… tried so hard to rember, but I just can’t recall who told that story—I… I completely don’t rember.”

“Don’t rush, we’ll take it slow,” Purple comforted her.

Jane looked as if she was on the verge of tears, “How can I not be anxious? The court hearing date is about to be set.”

Yet Purple smiled slightly, “Hey, standing before you right now is Clearwater City’s most formidable prosecutor, and the most formidable lawyer. What is there to be scared of? Rest assured, we’ll secure your acquittal.”

Perhaps it was Purple’s relaxed attitude and certainty that revived Jane’s spirits a bit.

Purple continued, “I know you’ve been interrogated countless tis and are tired and fed up with the questioning, but I’ve just co from Kingsley, and there are things that it’s better for you to tell directly rather than have Allen and Aria Jackson relay them to , for the sake of accuracy, okay?”

Jane nodded, “Okay, I’ll do my best to cooperate with you.”

“All right, let’s begin,” Purple said as she opened the folder in front of her and sat down opposite Jane, “First, go through what happened that day from start to finish.”

Jane began her story.

She talked about how happy and sweet she felt coming ho, how anxious and scared she was when she started to notice sothing was amiss, and how close to breaking down she felt when she was urged to go to the bathroom.

“So, it was a spur-of-the-mont idea? You thought using that kind of story would capture his attention?” Purple asked.

“I initially wanted to talk about past boyfriends, but he clearly wasn’t interested. Then, I thought maybe a murderer would be intrigued by his own kind,” Jane said, sighing softly, “I rembered the catfish dismbernt case that Sister Aria ntioned, and sohow, that story popped into my head… it just so happened to be linked to catfish, but I never expected the story to beco reality…”

“You say the story suddenly popped into your head, but what about the na Philly?” Purple continued, “Was it sothing you ca up with on the spot, or did it just naturally co to mind?”

Jane furrowed her brows, hesitantly said, “I was very nervous at the ti. The na… just slipped out. I don’t know if I made it up or not…”

Purple took notes on paper and asked further, “When you were telling the story, did any related images flash through your mind? For example, scenes of you having a picnic with Philly on the boat, the weather that day, the scenery around, Philly’s facial expression, and so forth.”

“No! It was a made-up story; how could there be any images?!” Jane quickly shook her head, “I don’t know Philly at all!”

Purple nodded slightly, “The good news now is that the police have no evidence to prove you had any connection with Philly or Philly’s brother, but the bad news is, among your friends, nobody knows this story, aning that soone told a story at a gathering, but only you rembered it.”

Jane grimaced, “If I hadn’t encountered Black Rose, I don’t think I would have been triggered to rember…”

Purple smiled gently, “Let’s continue, you go on.”

“I told him, I went fishing with Philly, and then, while Philly was asleep, I pushed him off the boat…”

“Wait,” Purple interrupted her, “You went fishing with Philly? Janie, that’s not what you said before.”

Jane froze, looking blankly at Allen, “Didn’t I say that?”

Allen nodded and showed her the page of the statent, “You only ntioned having a picnic, you never brought up fishing.”
