“It’s alright, the little one still has a chance for recovery. It just might not be well-suited for life in the wild anymore.”
Fortunately, being a Lynx, it wasn’t particular about its habitat. Zoos in this province and the neighboring two could accommodate it for life.
If it were a Snow Leopard, however, it probably would have had to be sent to the wildlife rescue center in Qing Province.
Hearing that Little Lynx had no major issues, Jinya breathed a sigh of relief and planned to go back to find her brother and tell him about it so that the child’s mother wouldn’t worry.
Although, in the natural world, mothers abandon their weaker offspring to focus on raising those that are more likely to survive, Jinya’s Lynx Sister-in-law was different; she possessed a very strong maternal instinct.
With the help of Mr. Lepus and Jinya’s Little Jin, having one child was just as easy as having several; there was more food than they could eat, and Mr. Lepus helped protect the area around the den, allowing her to rest easy.
Little Jin, feeling sympathy for Jinya’s exhausting back-and-forth, volunteered to go and pass the ssage himself.
“We should also tell Leopard Sister about this.”
Jinya earnestly instructed Little Jin, “Big and Small Baby have been a lot of help; the rabbits in my brother’s territory were all driven over by them.”
Damn, are they seriously starting to herd rabbits now? He wouldn’t be too surprised if the next step involved them becoming Leopard Mother.
The crucial issue with Little Lynx had been resolved, and Jinya’s mood had greatly improved; then, she dropped a bomb on Chen Ying.
“Leopard Sister said there’s been a bit of a baby boom here this year, and word has spread. We’re probably going to see even more folks coming here in the fall and next spring looking for mates and to have babies.”
It’s just like humans finding out which maternity hospitals have better technology and safer birth rates—the animals have their own gossip channels too.
Not to ntion the explosion in the breeding rates this year among giant pandas, lynxes, leopard cats, Golden Cats, and all sorts of visible and invisible animals, the growth in family numbers is sowhat exceeding limits.
And don’t get started on the rodents and rabbits—there are too many to eat, simply too many!
Chen Ying, grinding her back teeth, thought about next year and the future when the entire mountain would be bursting with fur, leaving no room to even place her feet, and the entire situation almost numbed her.
It looked like it was ti to chase so of these guys away!
Just as this thought surfaced, she saw two dark little creatures marching with a ‘stranger to no one’ attitude into the ergency station’s woods, then they began to tumble and wrestle.
“Big and Small Yueya?”
The two little creatures had already grown quite a bit, their fur smoother and their bodies more rounded compared to their mother and their Street Rat uncle.
Big Yueya floundered about on its own for a bit, then looked up to see Sesa playing up in a tree. It started climbing the tree while still calling out, much like a mischievous child yelling for a neighbor friend to co out and play.
Little Yueya rolled around and ended up under the stilt floor; comfortably lying down, it grabbed a southern squash from a basket and started to munch on it.
At that mont, Chen Ying noticed two red and golden-haired red pandas lying side by side on the wooden animal rack at the innermost part of the stilt floor.
Red pandas are very timid animals, but seeing Little Yueya approach, they were steady as old dogs, not nervous in the least.
“What’s up with these two little guys? Why did they co here?”
Little Sen glanced down and said, “Oh, Jin Yan has been very irritable this month, fighting with peers in the park and getting locked up in the isolation room many tis, but still couldn’t be controlled. The center had no choice but to send them here to see if it would help.”
“Has it cald down since they arrived?”
“Yes, it has been half a month, and not once have they been agitated; they just don’t like to move. I thought they might be pregnant, but the checks showed nothing.”
Since they took good care of themselves, Little Sen just let them be.
Chen Ying walked over and stroked Jin Yan.
The little creature twisted uncomfortably but didn’t completely evade.
“What’s wrong? Can you tell ?”
“I’m not uncomfortable,” replied Jin Yan’s voice, tinged with a bit of grievance. “Why do they all have babies, and I don’t?”
So being upset was because of that? Chen Ying almost didn’t know how to respond.
