Evelyn Clayton’s heart violently thumped twice, then went still.
Being fooled twice by the sa person only proved her own stupidity.
Evelyn constantly reminded herself, suppressing the unusual emotions in her eyes.
In the morning report eting of The Grant Group, Jas Grant was unusually absent.
Harrison Grant, as the chairman, only ca to observe on this day each week.
Seeing the empty president’s seat, he showed displeasure.
Matthew Sullivan imdiately reported, "Dad—"
"Address as Chairman in the company." Harrison Grant reminded him.
Matthew quickly corrected himself, "Chairman, Director Grant didn’t leave any words and just skipped the morning eting. Several directors’ proposals had to be signed off by this morning, and if I weren’t here, today’s company work couldn’t have been arranged."
Although Jas wasn’t present, Quentin Hale was.
He imdiately explained, "Chairman, those proposals had already been reviewed by Director Grant before; they were delayed until today because so details needed modification. Since Matthew has made five incorrect docunt signings since taking office, Director Grant had to review the proposals in advance, which delayed work."
Failing to complain and being mocked by Quentin, Matthew awkwardly looked at Harrison, attempting to explain.
"Chairman, I—"
"Enough. I’m not concerned about this; I just want to know why Director Grant didn’t co to work today?"
This was sothing Quentin couldn’t answer either, as Jas hadn’t inford him about missing the morning eting.
He could only respond reluctantly, "Perhaps he’s unwell."
"Unwell, or can’t get up due to partying every night?" Matthew said sarcastically.
Quentin simply smiled faintly.
"Director Grant isn’t nearly as fond of nightlife as you are, Matthew Sullivan. You haven’t handled the bills from last night at Universe, have you? Director Grant has already instructed that bills signed at the bar can’t be claid as company expenses. After all, legitimate business isn’t conducted at a bar."
The senior executives who already spoke unfavorably about Matthew being the general manager now looked even more perplexed hearing about his bar-hopping habits.
"Don’t talk nonsense. When did I sign bills at a bar? I was—"
Harrison slamd the table, interrupting their conversation.
"Quentin, you’re a subordinate. Is this the attitude you should have when speaking to the general manager as an employee?"
Quentin remained silent; with Jas absent, he wasn’t inclined to argue.
Seeing Harrison speak up for him, Matthew felt pleased and was about to taunt Quentin again.
Jasper Grant suddenly spoke up, "Big brother had to care for Director Clayton, so he couldn’t co to work today. Dad, this is understandable."
Harrison frowned slightly, his tone displeased.
"Regardless, work shouldn’t be delayed."
"Sothing happened last night, and big brother didn’t have ti to tell you..."
"Alright, let’s continue the eting."
After the morning report eting ended, Jasper was held back by Matthew.
"How did you know Jas and Evelyn were together?"
Jasper kept a respectful distance from Matthew.
He never took Matthew, his nominal older brother, seriously and only treated him with the most basic courtesy.
Jasper looked indifferent, "They encountered a little incident last night."
"What incident?"
"It’s inconvenient to tell you."
Matthew hated his secretive nature and pursued, "Did Evelyn stay at Jas’s place last night?"
"Hmm."
"...Damn it." Matthew couldn’t help but curse.
Years ago, he found Evelyn attractive and wanted a night of passion with her in advance.
Yet she staunchly refused, even throwing the room card down the building in his presence.
But now she casually went to Jas’s place to spend the night.
Evelyn Clayton, well done!
Jasper didn’t want to say more to him and turned to leave.
