Noticing sothing was off, Evelyn Clayton stood up, placing her hands on the table, eyes narrowed as she looked at Amber Whitman.

Although she was smiling, the smile did not reach her eyes. Instead, a coldness seeped into her bones.

She spoke with a smile, her tone as chilling as a snake crawling out from Purgatory.

"Amber Whitman, whatever tricks you want to play, I’m ga. But you shouldn’t have touched my manuscript. My work is what I value most, and you’d better pray I don’t find evidence. Otherwise, I’ll make sure everyone knows about this. I’m quite looking forward to seeing how people react when the heiress of the Whitman Family steals a manuscript..."

Never before had Amber Whitman seen Evelyn Clayton look so sinister, and Amber was so frightened that sweat ford on her palms.

"You, you’re speaking without proof..."

"Knock knock."

At this mont, soone knocked on the door.

Returning to her senses, Amber Whitman turned her head in panic.

Did Jas Grant arrive so quickly? Did he hear what I said just now?

"Co in."

But it wasn’t Jas Grant who walked in; it was Matthew Sullivan.

He eagerly grabbed Evelyn Clayton’s hand, "Evelyn, I heard from Quentin Hale that your manuscript is missing. What’s going on? Let help you get to the bottom of this."

Upon hearing this, Amber Whitman broke into a cold sweat and said, "What is there to investigate?! Surely, she just didn’t take good care of her manuscript!"

Evelyn Clayton frowned in disgust, pulling her hand back and creating distance.

"A well-kept manuscript doesn’t just sprout legs and run away." Matthew Sullivan, faced with indifference, vented his frustration on Amber Whitman, glaring at her irritably, "You don’t want it checked—is it because you took it?"

"Of course not. How can you accuse like that without evidence?!"

Seeing that the two were about to argue, Evelyn Clayton tily interrupted their dispute.

"Manager Sullivan, I’d like to check the surveillance footage."

"No problem."

Checking the upper level’s surveillance requires approval from soone above a managerial position.

With a phone call from Matthew Sullivan, the security departnt promptly delivered the footage.

In the footage, a woman in a white suit sneaked into Evelyn Clayton’s office, hurriedly leaving three minutes later.

And that woman’s figure was clearly Amber Whitman.

Feeling guilty, Amber Whitman retreated, attempting to leave quietly, but Evelyn Clayton called her back.

"Miss Whitman, do you have anything left to say?"

"I was just trying to play a joke on you!" Amber Whitman’s voice trembled as she frantically opened her bag and threw a piece of paper onto the table, "Here it is; I’m returning it to you."

After speaking, Amber Whitman tried to leave.

Matthew Sullivan kicked the door shut.

"You think leaving is that easy?!"

Having found an opportunity to impress Evelyn Clayton, he wouldn’t let it slip away.

"Little Zhang, call the police imdiately. In broad daylight, a thief dared to appear here at The Grant Group. This can’t be ignored!"

The security manager hurriedly took out his phone but was stopped by Amber Whitman.

"I was just joking; do we need to be so serious?"

Evelyn Clayton grabbed her arm, her eyes icy with threat.

"I don’t think this joke is funny. Without the surveillance footage, you were planning to use this incident to make leave today, weren’t you?"

"...But you’re still standing here, aren’t you? Evelyn Clayton, let it go! I’m allowing you to continue working here!" Amber Whitman was beside herself, speaking recklessly.

Amber Whitman had thick skin, making Evelyn Clayton unwilling to waste words with her.

"Call the police or get Jas Grant to handle this."

At the ntion of Jas Grant, Amber Whitman visibly panicked.

"Don’t tell my brother Jas; I can’t let him know I—"

"If you had the courage to act, you should bear the consequences!"
